Sizing a zope server

Hi, I plan to setup an apache/zope server for virtual hosting in an ISP environment. Are there any good docs outlining resource requirements of zope? Using ZODB it looks (from my initial foray) as if all data is stored in the file Data.fs. If Data.fs grows to 1/2 GB will my zope server still function? What if things grow to 2 GB? which permissions are needed to create .pyc files

I have my Zope-Process running with uid zope and uid zope in the group users. I am developing a product MyProduct in ZINSTANCE_HOME/Products/MyProducts with this setting: drwxrwxr-x 6 perry users 616 Feb 18 20:25 MyProduct when I refresh MyProduct in the control-panel, no .pyc files are created. the amazing thing is that when I run python as the user zope and do an import MyProduct in the Products the .pyc files are created with: -rw-r--r-- 1 lzope lzope 24433 Feb 18 20:38 Client.pyc also when I do a chown zope:users MyProduct and refresh the .pyc files are generated with permissions: -rw-r--r-- 1 lzope lzope 24433 Feb 18 20:38 Client.pyc the same is true if I do: chmod a+w MyProduct which I apparently don't want to do - Mit freundlichen Grüßen Joachim Schmitz -------------------------------------------------------------------- AixtraWare Ingenieurbüro für Internetanwendungen Telefon: +49-2464-8851, FAX: +49-2464-905163 --------------------------------------------------------------------

You should be running 2 Zopes - one for each CPU since Python doesn't really take advantage of SMP. I can't comment on the threads issue (I assume that you are running the ZSS on another box, which is similar to my setup, so I'm interested in finding out the answer to this myself), but I can suggest that if you do run 2 zopes on the same box, look into the 'schedutils' package for your Linux distro and use the taskset command, which is a utility that uses system calls to set CPU affinity of a process, will allow you to bind each Zope instance (via process to CP to a given CPU to avoid the Python GIL performance penalty. I haven't done this yet, so I'm not sure if you need to have your startup scripts run taskset on all Zope threads? Say I've got a multiprocessor machine on Linux. I've got a ZEO running. Does it make more sense to run one Zope client on that box with 8 threads or two clients with 4 threads? Chris Muldrow

PageTemplate calls absolute_url / Error getPhysicalPath

He folks, I get an Error getPhysicalPath not available when I call absolute_url. The Object is a Neoboard. What can I do ? Thanks in Advance for any hints... I had a problem with versions. I realized this Python Script. request = container.REQUEST response = request.RESPONSE idVersion = 'modifyNews' container.manage_addProduct['OFSP'].manage_addVersion(idVersion, title="") version = getattr(container, idVersion) version.enter(request, response) idDoc = 'doc' version.manage_addProduct['OFSP'].manage_addDTMLDocument(idDoc,title="") doc = getattr(container, idDoc) content = "Today date: " + str(DateTime()) doc.manage_upload(content) version.leave(request, response) After this, when I go back to manage_main I would expect 'doc' document has a red locked ball. But it is not. I think it is a transaction problem, but how can I resolve it? TIP: importing/exporting multiple files

Sheesh. I've only just discovered this is possible. I did try selecting multiple files, but Zope only exported the first one. The trick is (wait for it) to export an entire folder (I assumed this would only export the folder as opposed to its contents). So if you have multiple files, cut and paste them into a temporary folder and then export the whole folder.

Multiple values

Hi, I'm trying to update multiple values in one form at one time. In the first form i've put something like this: <dtml-in sqlquery> <input type=text name=ab:list value=<dtml-var x>> <inpu type=text name=cd:list value=<dtml-var y>> </dtml-in> and I've sent the lists to another page that contains something like this: <dtml-in "map(None,ab,cd)"> <dtml-call "sqlUpdate(i=sequence_item[0],j=sequence_item[1])"> </dtml-in> but its not working....
