Persisting PIL.Image instances in Zope?

For a number of reasons, I find myself wanting to persist instances of PIL.Image in the ZODB. Ideally, such a subclass of PIL.Image and Persistent would also be API-compatible with OFS.Image, but I'd be willing to live without this. Does anyone already have something like this developed with the bugs worked out? I'd rather not reinvent this particular wheel if I don't have to. -- Michael R. Bernstein <webmaven(a)lvcm.com>

Newbie: Creating PDF Documents on the fly in Zope

I have a few pages in Zope generating info gained from an Interbase DB. The pages are fine, except we also want a user to be able to click a button on these pages and generate a PDF document for printing, looking pretty much the same but with all the necessary page breaks and associated headers/footers. I have looked around, and there are a couple of products that look promising, mostly so PIDDLE. Being a complete newbie to Zope, though, I really don't know where to start with it. I read that SPING was a product designed for such things, and extracted that into products. It appears as a product in Zope, but it is basically empty. There don't appear to be any documents designed for idiots, so I'm hoping someone out there can help me .. ?!? I don't seem to be able to get any version to run. It's not clear how to build and install Zope from either the prebuilt tarball or the source tarball. All I want to do is have a /usr/local/zope installation, I suspect it's possible from the source, but it's not clear how to do so. The doc/INSTALL.txt is kind of cryptic. \ Is this even the right list for this? Sorry for all the questions but I'm getting frustrated. Thanks. You will also be required to install python 2.1.3. This is not optional as zope 2.6.x will crash with python 2.1.2. That's what I've ended up doing. I built Python 2.1.3 and I'm building the newly released 2.6.1 from source since prebuilt version wouldn't run for me. Please keep the discussion on the list... Your idea sounds for me like: Why do you want to use Zope if you want to invent the wheel on your own? ZCatalog/TextIndexNG are well tested and do their job very well... There's no need to invent your own c++-indexer, if you do it the "zopish" way. Maybe you should have a look at MNOGoSearch and something like this non-zope-stuff for full-text-retrieval out there... -mj

Upgrading to 2.6.0 on SuSE 7.3

I'm running Zope 2.4.1 on SuSE 7.3, installed via RPM. SuSE sees fit to put Zope into /opt/zope rather than in the /usr/local hierarchy. I tried, unsuccessfully, to upgrade via the standard tarballs but I ended up with a mess that required me to blow the whole thing away and start over from scratch. passing a list to per external method

What is the syntax for passing a list to a perl external method? Can it even be done? Every time I try, the perl method just gets the literal list (['element1','element2'], etc...) as the first parameter. I would think there is a way to do this, since you can do the opposite by having perl return a reference to a hash.

Zope + Apache2 + SSL

hi, can anyone help, or point me to a how-to for this configuration? I'm running Zope 2.6.0, Python 2.1.3, Apache 2.0.43 on Solaris 8 There are a few out there, and I just can't seem to find one that works for me. or is Apache 2.0.xx still not well enough documented for this kind of thing, and should I stick to 1.13.xx? this is driving me mad - thanks in advance Ben

Reducing Zope Memory Usage

I have a small Zope/Squishdot installation which runs behind Apache. Zope/Squishdot is the only thing that I use the site for. Almost no one visits it. Yet my ISP (imeme) says I use an average of 120MB of memory, which it says is twice what I should be using. Is there some way I can adjust the settings on my Zope installation so that I use less average memory?
