Accessing subfolder of Zope using Webdav and Webdrive

Hi everyone, I'm experimenting with Webdav access to my Zope using the Webdrive product. I can access the root of my Zope with no trouble, but I'm not able to include a subfolder in the URL and have it connect. I've tried something like this (and many other combinations) for the URL: http://mysite.com/subfolder:9080 I want to give access to this subfolder to another person, but I don't want her to have access to the root. I've searched the Zope list archives, but I can't find this particular example anywhere. You have to do something like this: fileContent=context.REQUEST.form['file'].read() Then, you have to take a look at the localfs dtml methods to see how a file is created in the local file system. Applications that scale beyond thousands of objects in a single container can perform quite well, but only if you code your app right; you need to have the application take into account using the Catalog as much as possible to avoid excessive penalty for traversing to too many objects or relying too much upon ObjectManager (folder) interfaces for accessing multiple objects. Traversing to an object is expensive, if you add up many objects, largely because of security machinery and other concerns. Using cached data in the Catalog can help you avoid this performance penalty, even for applications that do nothing more than list items in a given folder in a sorted and/or batched manner. Tips: - Download and use the BTreeFolder2 product for any folder with many objects - Subclass BTreeFolder2, and back it with a ZCatalog, and associated UI - Assumes working knowledge of writing Zope Python Products - Use the catalog wherever you can, and only load the objects you need to access - Avoid ObjectManager methods like objectItems(), objectValues(), objectIds() on large containers, use a catalog to get the same results, which can of-course be filtered, sorted, and batched! It is encouraging to hear that the zope can handle some fairly large numbers. This was one of my biggest concerns. How is performance when retieving this data? Have you seen any degradation as the number of has grown, specifically have you seen any threshold that should be avoided? About the Page template features

Hi, When tailoring the various Page Templates in a Plone site, I noticed constructs for which I didn't find any doc in the latest ZopeBook (2.6 edition) 1/ <tal:block ...> elements. 2/ <metal:block ...> elements 3/ The i18n namespace. Okay, I experienced some stuffs with these features and guessed their respective usage, but having a doc that explain fully their usage would be helpful. Thanks in advance. --Gilles

Authenticating with acl_users

Ive been looking through AccessControl/User.py to understand the validate() methods paramteres. Im not sure what to put inside the request, and how to do it. I have been testing around, but I can only manage to do authenticate(), but this only tells if the user is valid and has the right password. The thing is, I also want to set AUTHENTICATED_USER, but not sure how to to this, but I have the idea validate() does all this for you, if you pass the right parameters. I have been searching at zope.org and google.com for a long time now, but cant find very much useful. The only parameters I have put in the REQUEST are __ac_user and __ac_password, but I know I also need object value and physical container of the object, but dont know how to find this. /Sondre
