Hi Everyone, I've got a Zope application where users have to authenticate themselves to be able to view certain pages. Now I want to count the logins per zope-user (disregarding the actual user-request identified by their ip-addresses). Can this be done? -- Stephan

newbie: exuserfolder-question

hi all, i'm new to xuf (ExUserFolder), read all faqs, readmes, mailinglists (hopefully ;-) and still have two short questions: (i already posted this question last week to the exusermailinglist, but didn't get listed till now :-( 1. sources i already have a table for all my users. this table includes the basic login fields (password, roles, user name) /and/ the so called properties (email, street, etc.). as i dont't like the idea of changing this table i'm wondering if it is possible/ a good idea to drop the *propsource part of xuf and integrate my table columns into the *authsource part. or would that break the whole (idea of the) product? any hints? helpful ideas? 2. session-based login method as many of my users won't accept cookies: did anybody try to extend the cookie-based authentication by session-based authentication ? any hints or helpful ideas? any help appreciated. regards, seila -- +++ GMX - Mail, Messaging & more http://www.gmx.net +++ Bitte lächeln! problems with msie 6

Hi! I'm quite new to zope and I have a little problem with msie 6: I created a formulator form. When it is submitted a python script is called that validates the entries and then calls a zsql method that inserts them in a mysql table. With Mozilla, msie 5.X all works fine, but using msie 6 the entries are inserted two or three times. No error messages appear in the error_log so I have no idea where to look. (Zope version is 2.6.0, formulator version is 1.2.0) Any hints? Thanks in advance Thorsten Harms

Where is zope best practice?

Hi, I'm currently looking to the best way to develop zope application/products. I've been searching throughout the website and I couldn't find any documentation of the 'best practice' on developing a zope products. Besides this there are many limitation such as no proper IDE to be used to develop a product. I've heard of WingIDE but I'm not sure how helpful this could be in developing the Zope Applications/Products. I'm a Java programmer and attracted to Zope because of many small available applications. I've mastered Python in the last few days and looking forward developing Zope Products. But with little documentation, best practices and tools, I think, Zope won't be much helpful to me in building rapid and robust application. I have been always very keen in knowing Python and Zope. But something draw me back is the little/no documented best practice on developing zope products. In Java, if one develops an application using JSP (Java Server Page), one can use some types of framework such as Struts, Tapestry. Or s/he may uses JSP itself. There are also documented best practice in developing this JSP application such as pattern to be used and how you separate presentation, business logic and data. There are also many IDEs and other modelling tools that can be very helpful. >From so many tools, documentation, I am still in favour of developing a large application using JAVA instead of Zope or Python. I'm still keen to know zope further. Can someone help me to find out the best practice in developing Zope Products? regards, Heri

I've been trying to get PDFs generated "on-the-fly" recently, and tried html2pdf. When appending /html2pdf to the end of the url, I got a completely blank page (using Win 2k). Apparently, the free Windows binary version does not have the full functionality with it (and that is one of the bits - or the only bit - thats missing!), if the binary version is the one you're using. I'm only a newbie, so don't take my word for it!! If anyone else knows I'm wrong, please put me right, as I'd be interested to know, too. popular distributions

Without starting any arguments, I would like to find out what sort of distributions are popular for deploying zope servers. I would like to use a common distribution like Redhat, but getting binary packages for common DA's is painfully obtuse. I have used the windows packages with the binary ODBC DA an the install went great, the downside is, well, windows. I won't deploy a production server with compilers on it. Some thing like Gentoo with it's build-from-source design and ability to do package management would be great, But zope isn't well supported- I would still have to assemble packages myself or build various binary parts by hand. What is the most common deployment in zope production systems?

Equivalent of dtml-with in script or ZPT?

Is there a way to achieve in a Python script an effect equivalent to <dtml-with an_object> operations in context of an_object </dtml-with> ? I know it's possible to call the object's methods, but if I need to pass the methods a context (for example to render a DTML method), I get the context of the object calling the script, not the context of an_object. And, for that matter, is there a way to achieve the same effect in a TALES expression? how to create a new HTTPRequest record

I have a form that has var names something like this... properties.a:record properties.b:record and submit's to a python script named 'myaction'. Course this creates a record object for me in the python script that my form submits against. But, is there anyway for one python script to programatically create a record with the same attributes and invoke myaction with that record object? (this is all TTW of course) - Rocky

Basic Authentication Realm

Browser Friendly Message via Basic Authentication (Zope/exUserFolder) I want to set a realm for a part of a site. Basically, I have two directories, one for category A users and one for category B users. I want the accesses to each to be identified as a different realm, so that Basic authentication can be used to login to both areas with different credentials, and also so that the message displayed in the browser is meaningful. I have found that I can set the realm for a Zope instances via Z_REALM or __bobo_realm__. However, I do not seem to be able to set it for a directory or hierarchy. It appears that I can set the variable response.realm, if I have some python which is called. I am using exUserFolder, so my code is never called if the security check fails, which prevents me from setting the variable. My web-site is hosted (by amaze.nl), so I would rather not have to change exUserFolder sources. I would appreciate any solutions or advice from anyone on the list. Kevin Gill MovieExtras.ie
