Problems with Zope 2.6.1 on WinXP

upgrades and stability

We've been using Zope 2.51 on RH 7.3. It's been exceptionally stable and easily handles our workload. We are now about to refactor the system, add new features, add multiple hardware servers, some with ZEO front-ends, go to an multiple instance organization, to scale up for another order of magnitude or two of users. We are having to rethink system security (e.g., SSL), backup strategies, and add fail-soft support. If we are going to migrate to another Zope release, now would be a good time. What advice would you give. Zope 2.6.1 would be the obvious choice although if Zope 2.7.X will be released soon it might be another possibility. Any advice? hidden gotchas? release schedule intelligence? Thanks.

Traversing LocalFS

Hopefully someone can help me out on this .... Premise: Create a method of displaying files (in browser with URL linking) from a Local File System in Zope that can be traversed. I have already installed the LocalFS product and it seems to work fine, as least for the first level of file/folders. But I need to be able to traverse down an infinite (well a lot) number of directories so that users can select a specific file. Like I said the first level is easy since I am in the "Zope Environment", but I can not figure out how to keep traversing the path (URL Link) once I have moved out of the Zope system and into the LocalFS. I have also tried the dtml-tree object (which does traverse the entire paths) but it is too slow in building the pages. Given time I think I could figure out something and make it work, but I need to get this working in a hurry to help justify using Zope, and this is my last roadblock. reStructuredText installation

I installed the backport for Zope 2.6. Untarring the installation rewrites Products/PythonScripts/standard.py to import restructured_text from DocumentTemplate.DT_Var. Dt_Var doesn't have restructured_text. This causes problems when tyring to import anything from PythonScripts/standard in a python script. Is there something missing from the installation? Or is there something I'm missing? It would be nice to be able to use a restructured_text format in python scripts, what's a good way to do this? I've been looking at the ReStructuredText Document which works well. I'd like to be able to use html in a ReStructuredText Document. Is there a way to have the ReStructuredText Document leave html as is, instead of quoting it? Thanks, Mark

Restrict acquisition?

I have a problem with my current setup. I'm hosting several Zope-based virtual domains through Apache. They are all stored as folders in the top-level Zope folder: Root Folder: Domain1.com Domain2.com Domain3.com This works exactly as I would hope; visitors to http://www.domain1.com/ see the contents of the Domain1.com folder, and so on. However, I realized yesterday that anyone visiting http://www.domain1.com/Domain2.com/ can see the contents of the Domain2.com folder. Now, once I calmed down and thought about it, it made perfect sense, and Zope is doing exactly what it's being asked to do. However, logical or not, this is not appropriate for my needs. In a nutshell, I want to restrict acquisition so that it doesn't recurse back down once it reaches the root folder. I'm getting pretty familiar with developing in Zope, but I don't want to hack together some home-brewed solution when something pre-built probably already exists. -- Kirk Strauser

Hi, I have a DTMLMethod with the following content: <dtml-call "PARENTS[0].manage_addExternalMethod('mumu','','striphtml','strip')"> where PARENTS[0] is a folder. I get the following error: Error Type: AttributeError Error Value: manage_addExternalMethod PS. There is no error in the script.

make a product catalogware

Hello all, I have a product, I want to make it catalog aware, so I can auto catalog the product. Can someone tell me how? Currently I have tried to follow examples in the Zope Bible book. That worked for me, but I am having issues with create date and modification date for the product. Thanks TP
