User information

Hello, My application requires users to be associated information such as phone number, address, title... Basically, what I would like to do is extend the default user type. I was wondering what is the best way to achieve this. Should I store additional information in an external table? Or is there a design that lets me store everything in the ZODB? Webcam and Zope

Hey Zope People! My name is Ricardo and I'm a newbie in Zope. In my first work with it I need to do a guest control system. I need to fill a form with some personal information about the person and I need to get a picture from him using a webcam connected to the PC. How can I do it??? Zope and Threads

Hi. Just wanted to post this for whoever searches for Zope, Threads and ZSQLMethods or relational databases in the future. It seems that very simplistic things will work if you spawn a thread inside of Zope. But in the thread if you start doing anything really related to ZODB you could have all sorts of issues. This is my interpretation of events. I could be wrong. I have started smoking again since the beginning of this fiasco. The situation: - need to run a thread that does lots of ZSQLMethod calls and then generates a Report - we would launch a Report thread in Zope - but how it interacted with the database connection was very strange. Connections that were launched with the thread would be reused and would get really bizarre problems. like inserts not showing up, etc. - I spoke with a few gurus and they say that spawning threads in zope works fine (albeit a PITA). but none were doing any ZSQL acrobatics. - postgres connections seemed to leak as would ZODB connections. Eventually I would run out of ZODB threads (which ZServer uses) and ZServer would stop responding because a thread would be left holding the last zodb connection which would have been leaked. - app would lock up. The solution: - use ZEO! (I was already using it) and both kapil and stevea suggested it. But I was DETERMINED to get the threading solution to work (no where did it say it WOULD NOT WORK, now I am writing that it appears NOT TO WORK) - now the ZEO client that takes the report requests simply generate a ReportRequest class, pickles it, put it in a filesystem folder and goes on its marry way. - the report zeo client [separte process] watches the filesystem and picks up pickles, unpickles, generates the report and removes the pickle. so far it works beautifully! I plan to post on zopelabs the threading solution with a huge warning not to use it in conjunction with ZSQLMethods. but I think it should be (actively) discouraged spawning threads inside of ZEO. ~runyaga

dtml-call but with TAL

I have several places where the DTML used to look like this:: <dtml-call "IfNotLoggedInRedirectSomewhere()"> The equivalent in TAL would be what? My current implementation is:: <span tal:define="dummy here/IfNotLoggedInRedirectSomewhere" tal:replace="nothing"></span> There must be a more good looking solution other than rewriting the whole way the site works. ExternalEditor doesn't launch my .doc files

Hi, I'm trying to setup ExternalEditor to launch Word 2000 files, but I haven't had success. First I wrote these lines on my "ZopeEdit.ini": [content-type:application/msword] extension=.doc Then I tried the following sintaxes for the "editor" variable: I found this one in the File Types of windows: editor = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\WINWORD.EXE /n "%1" I found these two in other messages of the maillinglist: editor = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\WINWORD.EXE /w "%1" editor = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\WINWORD.EXE "%1" I have also tried without the "%1", and writting "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\WINWORD.EXE" between double qoutes but I get always the same dialog box: FATAL ERROR: (126, 'LoadLibrary', 'The specified module could not be found.') I don't get a traceback on my log file. I'm running Zope 2.6.1 under Windows 2000 (a local machine), and I have installed ExternalEditor 0.7, and ZopeEdit 0.7 (installed from the binary for Windows). What could be the problem? Am I using the wrong sintax? Thanks in advanced, Josef

Hi, UserCounter product is the product for counting users online. And try to search zope mailinglist archive for "UserCounter mod for reverse proxy", I have posted them few days ago. hello zopists, 2 questions here : How can I know how many users are online on my zope ? What can I do, so that any user that stay idle for a given time are booted, and have to relog when they come back ? thank you for you time, patience, solutions and pointers to good doc about this
