It hangs or deads without any message to logs manytimes. Now I run my zope under Linux without any problem (cca 120 days). Regards JL.

Hi! Is it possible to find the objects which have an empty list with a KeywordIndex? If I search for {myattribute:[]} I get all objects returned. thomas

no 'operator' query option with zctextindex?
by Richard Ettema 17 Jul '03

17 Jul '03

Hi, I'm currently upgrading a site to run on 2.6.1 (previously 2.5.1). I have been testing the search facility with textindex replaced with zctextindex. ZCTextIndex Settings: 1. Okapi BM25 Rank Lexicon Settings: 1. Splitter 2. CaseNormalizer 3. StopWordAndSingleCharRemover If I do a search on the text 'bike helmet' (without quotes) I would like any item with the word 'bike' or 'helmet' to be returned. (An 'OR' search by default). The user has the ability to choose a drop-down for "any words" or "all words" to over-ride the default to an "OR" or "AND". This passes the chosen 'operator' to the catalog with {'query':'bike helmet', 'operator':'or'}. ZCTextIndex only returns items matching the whole phrase "bike helmet", the original textindex worked fine by matching the individual words. I have found in zctextindex.py the query options available is only the 'query'. Is there a reason why zctextindex doesn't allow an operator to be passed like textindex? TextIndex was working fine, I am interested in using ZCTextIndex for its improved relevance scoring. Also a question about the relevance scoring. Is the relevance score of returned items available in the results, or something to pass to make them available? Thanks for your help with this. Richard --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Highly Available Zope
by David A. Riggs 17 Jul '03

17 Jul '03

From my understanding of ZEO, a single ZODB is shared between multiple Zope application clients, giving a performance boost by offloading onto the multiple app clients. This leaves the ZODB machine as a single point of failure. We've had success in the past using DRBD to make relational databases highly available across multiple machines, I'm curious if anyone has done something similar to make the ZODB highly available in this manner, or if I'm misunderstanding a part of ZEO which handles this single point of failure. Thanks! -- - David A. Riggs <lukewarm(a)ultrasoul.com>

I made one critically wrong assumption: I assumed a piece of code that I called doesn't change any ZODB objects, so I need not call get_transaction().commit() or abort(). Well, the code DID change a Zope object! This had the wonderful side effect that the object stayed in the Transaction object. This would probably have the effect of causing a memory leak, but for one thing: since Transactions are identified according to thread ids, and thread ids are re-used after previous threads using them exited (well, in Windows anyway), new threads ended up using Transaction objects which still have uncommitted objects in them. These objects are then mixed with the new thread's changed objects which has the same effect as changing ZODB objects from multiple threads - (so you WERE right saying I changed objects from multiple threads! ;) I assume it is safe to call get_transaction().abort() if I'm not sure if the code changed anything and doesn't care if changes are lost? This is probably better than having unfinished transactions lurking around to bite me. Thanks again! Etienne

Running an instance of Zope (with INSTANCE_HOME) as a windows service
by Sune Wller 17 Jul '03

17 Jul '03

Hi all, i have been trying to set several instances of zope up on one server (each runningon a different port number or ip), and have succeeded in creating an instance following the recipe here: http://www.zope.org/Members/4am/instancehome This means that each instance runs on the same zope-install, but with each their own data, products etc. (still dont know what to do about zope.cgi, though) But i would like each instance to run as a service under windows 2k. Any suggestions ?? I'm running zope 2.6.1 is it possible to see the code for the install script (that registers the zope install as a service) somewhere ? greetings, Sune B. Woeller

Issue Tracker
by Christophe Cornil 17 Jul '03

17 Jul '03

Hi all, I'm newbie in zope. I saw that there's an opportunity to use a issue tracker (http://www.zope.org/Members/peterbe/IssueTrackerProduct) But one thing I don't understand for the installation is the CVS stuff. What am I sensing to do? Browse the CVS Root? Install a CVS client and do something? Thanks

Inconsistent property values
by Miguel Lara Alday 17 Jul '03

17 Jul '03

Hi! We have a python script which updates a property. When we go to see the property management form we see the correct values, but when we reload it we get sometimes the new values, sometimes the previous values and sometimes even older values. The same happened with an python script we made to display the property values we need to change. Is it some kind of object caching? Is there a way to stop Zope from using old values of an updated property? Miguel Lara Alday

Do not do that... >> >> >> Dieter Hi Dieter, That was my initial though too (since that was how I was originally introduced to opening my own connections!). I'm quite sure it's not that as a typical debug run would go like this: Thread 703 - Start of Commit Thread 703 - Acquire DB Lock Thread 703 - Release DB Lock Thread 703 - Acquire DB Lock Thread 703 - End of Commit The above is abbreviated, but I can send you a more verbose list with stack traces for each step. I printed out the threading.currentThread().getName()s every step to check which threads are doing what. Coming to think of it, the above probably only proves that the commit happens in one thread, not that the objects that are committed weren't changed by multiple threads. Anyway, I will go through my code with a fine comb again as me being sure I don't use a connector from different threads does not mean it isn't so! At the least I will try and give more information trying to prove it isn't so :) Thanks anyway. Etienne
