Importing Python Packages
by Patrick W. Fraley 14 Jul '03

14 Jul '03

Hi List, I am having a little problem importing a python package in a script (I know it should be a product, but this is just a quick hack I need to get running by this afternoon). How can I get around the security checks when trying to import a python package in a python script? I found some references to creating a dummy package, but no reference on how to exactly do this or what is necessary. Please help me I need to get this done quickly. Best regards Patrick W. Help! Zope is hanging - Issue 852 in collector?
by Craig Funk 14 Jul '03

14 Jul '03

Hi, I am new to this group, so please forgive me if this problem has been addressed in the past. I was not able to find any solution on Google or elsewhere. I am running Zope, MySQL and Plone and occasionally Zope will lockup under load. Below is the messages from the log: 2003-06-18T14: 06:31 ERROR(200) ZODB A storage error occurred during transaction abort. This shouldn't happen. Traceback (innermost last): File /xxx/2-6-1/lib/python/ZODB/Transaction.py, line 261, in commit File /xxx/2-6-1/lib/python/ZODB/Transaction.py, line 392, in _commit_error AttributeError: Surrogate instance has no attribute '_p_oid' ------ 2003-06-18T14: 06:31 ERROR(200) SiteError http://xxx/mail_password Traceback (innermost last): File /xxx/2-6-1/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 102, in publish File /xxx/2-6-1/lib/python/Zope/App/startup.py, line 200, in commit File /xxx/2-6-1/lib/python/ZODB/Transaction.py, line 261, in commit File /xxx/2-6-1/lib/python/ZODB/Transaction.py, line 392, in _commit_error AttributeError: Surrogate instance has no attribute '_p_oid' It happens within any ZPT, not only mail_password. After this occurs zope locks up within a minute or so. We have been getting this almost daily, and need to restart Zope when it happens. I found an unresolved issue in the zope collector ( http://collector.zope.org/Zope/852 ) which seems to be the same problem. I have found several work arounds: 1) Apparently a work around is to run Zope 2-6-0 instead of 2-6-1 . 2) Setup the tables in MySQL to support transactions. Currently our MySQL tables are not enabled for transactions. Does anyone else have experience with this issue? I have a rather large installation and am reluctant to roll back to 2-6-0 :( -- Craig Funk PanTechnica Corporation

dtml-except and whitespaces
by Nestor A. Diaz L. 14 Jul '03

14 Jul '03

Hi, Does anybody know how to deal with exceptions which include a whitespace in the name? i mean, if i define a exception like this: <dtml-raise type="Access Error" You are not autorized </dtml-raise> i want to catch it, but dtml-except can not let define a space between "Access" and "Error", i have tested the following but none of them work: <dtml-except "Access Error"> <dtml-except 'Access Error"> <dtml-except '_['Access Error']'> and so on, but i couldn't figure what is the exact sentence. Another question; does anybody knows about a good product to do form validation? Thanks, -- Nestor A. Diaz Lizarazo Tel. +57.1.6005490 Ingeniero de Sistemas y Comp. zope backtalk product - some questioons
by David Hassalevris 14 Jul '03

14 Jul '03

Hi, So I liked the Zope Book and decided to take a look at the product "backtalk" - which implements structured text into a collaborative framework. I am stuck with a few things and wonder if anyone can help. 1) Essentially backtalk provides two new selectable objects into Zope: Backtalk Book and Backtalk Documents. The backtalk book is folderish. When backtalk documents are added they automatically appear as members of the table of contents. My idea is to link each table of contents item to a folder. The problem is when I create a new folder within the backtalk book object and add a back talk document into that subfolder ... the navigational arrows disapper. Its as if the backtalk book has "lost track" of documents in subfolders. How is this done? 2) I notice that the backtalk book object sorts it's table of contents by title (if no title then by id). But who wants a table of contents in apha order. There obviously is a work around to this. I just dont know it. Anyone? BTW, from what i've seen so far its a very nice product! I *think* the Zopebook was authorized using it. David

Zope Freezing up with multiple threads accessing objects.
by Etienne Labuschagne 14 Jul '03

14 Jul '03

Hi all, I need to access Zope object in the ZODB from multiple threads every now and again (much like XRON does - except I have more threads that need to access it). Now I know I must get a valid connection into the ZODB every time a new thread wakes up and wants to get something done. I do this by getting a connection from the ZODB.DB instance in Globals and then getting the Application object from there. Unfortunately I am plagued by sporadic Zope freezing, where Zope accepts connections from a browser, but the page never returns (needless to say, all new threads that wake up and try and get the app also freezes). No crashes, exceptions, etc. After some very sophisticated print debugging ;) I have traced the problem to the ZODB.DB's "global" lock, ZODB.DB.l, not being released after DB.begin_invalidation has been called by ZODB.Connection.tpc_finish which has been called by ZODB.Transaction._finish_many which has been called by Transaction.commit. It seems as if ZODB.DB.finish_invalidation has never been called to release the lock after the initial begin_invalidation called by tpc_finish. It seems to me that this whole sequence is triggered by get_transaction().commit(), but I can't quite figure out what I am doing wrong. I get this problem on Zope 2.6.1 on both Win2k and Linux (four different machines), and yes, I did register my thread with ThreadedAsync to start my thread up. That thread, however starts up other threads - do I need to register those threads with ThreadedAsync too? FYI I get the App object as follows - is this the best way? If I get a temporary connection, do I also need to call close?: import Globals connection = Globals.DB.open(temporary=1) #I have also tried getting from the pool with no params, and with force=1 app = connection.root()['Application'] # some code using the app object here get_transaction().commit() app._p_jar.close() I have also tried using ZApplication.ZApplicationWrapper, etc, etc. Zope will run for hours before freezing or will freeze after about 10 seconds - totally random - what am I doing wrong? Thanks Etienne

Passing context from DTML to Python
by Martin Richtarsky 13 Jul '03

13 Jul '03

Hi, I have an DTML document (doc) and a Python Script (script). Both of these are stored in the root folder. Now, I want to call doc on some arbitrary subfolder. doc outputs standard_html_header etc. and passes control to the script to do the processing. The problem is, 'context' in the script is the folder where the caller, i.e. the DTML document, is in. But I want to do work on the objects in the folder doc was called on. I would use something like: <dtml-var expr="pythonscript(context)"> but of course there is no context within DTML. Any hints? The documentation didn't help me. How do you delete an object that cannot be seen in the ZMI
by Michael Long 13 Jul '03

13 Jul '03

Hi, I have created an object in the ZODB that I cannot see in the ZMI and now don't know how to remove it. More importantly I would like to understand what I did so as not to do it again. I am sure more info is needed to track down the problem but I don't know what it would be. A brief explanation of what I am trying to accomplish. I am creating a folderish object with its id be autogenerated. Inside of this new object I want to create another folderish object with an id = 'Invoices'. Here is the traceback: Traceback (innermost last): Module ZPublisher.Publish, line 98, in publish Module ZPublisher.mapply, line 88, in mapply Module ZPublisher.Publish, line 39, in call_object Module Products.PRealEstate.PRealEstate, line 253, in addPParcel Module OFS.ObjectManager, line 272, in _setObject Module Products.PRealEstate.PParcel, line 139, in manage_afterAdd Module OFS.Folder, line 46, in manage_addFolder Module OFS.ObjectManager, line 244, in _setObject Module OFS.ObjectManager, line 77, in checkValidId Bad Request: The id "Invoices" is invalid--it is already in use. Here is the code that caused it: def manage_afterAdd(self, item, container): """ Processing after creation """ item.manage_addProduct['OFSP'].manage_addFolder('Invoices', '') Thanks, Mike
