RE: [Zope] ZPT changing javascript (HOW?) - Easy with DTML

Perhaps I'm late to this conversation, so I might be misunderstanding the context, but I have another ZTP script tag problem... In the HTML 3.2/4.0 specs, stuff in script tags is implicitly CDATA in HTML (though not in XHTML). ZPT does not respect this, so JavaScript with '<' or '>' inside JS string literals causes problems with parsing the PT. IMHO, this is a bug unless the PT in question is set explicitly to XML? Has anyone else encountered this? Does anyone mind if I file this in the collector? Eaxmple would likely fail ZPT parsing: <script> document.write('<a href="' + somevar + '">" + someothervar + '</a>'); </script> Thoughts? Deckard; Mike Renfro Cc: zope(a)zope.org Subject: RE: [Zope] ZPT changing javascript (HOW?) - Easy with DTML Speaking here as someone who knows XHTML and XML but not ZPT: This probably won't work. <script> isn't supposed to contain other tags. Go read the FAQ on the XHTML validator for some idea of how javascript and XHTML just don't mix well. Consider moving your script into python or dtml. Also, you shouldn't do this for empty elements: <sometag/> You should always place a space in there: <sometag /> Again, see the XHTML spec, validator, and validator FAQ. > -----Original Message----- > From: zope-admin(a)zope.org [mailto:zope-admin@zope.org]On Behalf Of > Christopher N. Thanks in advance, Pedro Costa

Debugger into python products with ZEO2 on win32
by Jeff Kowalczyk 04 Oct '02

I have CVS ZEO2, Zope 2.5.1 running on WinXP, PythonWin for Python 2.1 installed. I need to learn how to use a debugger to get information on what's happening on live objects (i.e when a form is submitted, I'd like to view the request and step through) Specifically I have a strange string.strip() error that just popped up on a customized Formulator product I'm working on, and I figure I should be able to debug this better than the traceback (see below). I can open up PythonWin or zope's console python and after Import Zope'ing, I can access the object model. While that's been invaluable as a sort of offline code-completion, that really isn't helping me debug live object behavior, which is where I'm running into some diffuculty as my product comes into shape. I'd really like to learn how to do this with the console or PythonWin, rather than use WingIDE or another IDE, but whatever it takes I'll do. With the setup I have, is there anything I can do to debug what happens at a specific request like the one described here? Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. Wildcard DNS with zope?
by Duane Raymond 04 Oct '02

04 Oct '02

Hi Does anyone know how to do wildcard DNS/subdomains with Zope? I want to be able to have something like anydomain.mydomain.com where anydomain is anything the user enters at anytime and doesn't demand a DNS entry or directory is set-up. I'd like to create a service like wasarrested.com but less rude :-) (i.e. try http://www.zope.developer.wasarrested.com/hack ) - it takes the variables from the subdomain and generates an article. Once set-up I'd post the code on zope.org Cheers, Duane

RE: [Zope] using ZPT to invoke an External Method and pass in var iables

Try: <span tal:define="stateNumber python:33"> The <span tal:replace="python:here.getStateName(stateNumber)" /> </span> And then comment the zopelab recipe. -----Original Message----- From: Tim Lynch [mailto:lynch@gould.mannlib.cornell.edu] Sent: Friday, 4 October 2002 3:07 p.m. To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: [Zope] using ZPT to invoke an External Method and pass in variables I've been trying to get a page template to call an external method, passing some variables in the call. I've been trying to follow an example I found on ZopeLabs: (http://www.zopelabs.com/cookbook/1008969252) Submitted by: runyaga Last Edited: 2002-02-18 Category: Python(External Method) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Description: if you want to use any python libraries, or xmlrpclib you can do this from python external methods. this is very simple. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Source (Text): #inside $ZOPE/Extensions #create a file, xmlrpc_example.py from xmlrpclib import Server def getStateNameByNumber(number=1): """ python lib example """ # simple test program (from the XML-RPC specification) # server = Server("http://localhost:8000") # local server server = Server("http://betty.userland.com") try: return server.examples.getStateName(number) except Error, v: raise v #inside ZOPE create a External Method: #id: getStateName #module: xmlrpc_example #function: getStateNameByNumber #then you can test that or call it from a Pagetemplate: <span tal:define="stateNumber python:33"> The #<span tal:replace="stateNumber"/> is <span tal:replace="python:getStateName(stateNumber)" /> </span> When I follow this as given, I get: Error Type: NameError Error Value: global name 'getStateName' is not defined If I revise the ext. method call to: <span tal:replace="here/getStateName" /> the call succeeds (using the default value) but I can't figure out how to pass in a value. Anything I try that has a variable in parentheses following the function name fails. The external method is OK as I've tested it outside of zope. (actually, the ext. method is not actually making an xml-rpc call at all -- I'm just returning whatever number is passed in as a sring) I've pored over the mail list archives, checked zopelabs for other examples, to no avail. I'm running Zope 2.60b1 if that makes any difference. - Tim Lynch tlynch(a)nal.usda.gov _______________________________________________ Zope maillist - Zope(a)zope.org http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope ** No cross posts or HTML encoding! ** (Related lists - http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-announce http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev )

VHM - ZCatalog - Find Objects
by Milos Prudek 04 Oct '02

04 Oct '02

CatalogPathAware works very well for ZClasses under Virtual Host Monster. Object paths do not include the folder that VHM points to, if <dtml-call reindex_object> is used when creating the ZClass instance. Also when changing ZClass instance properties and running <dtml-call reindex_object>, object paths are ok. But when ZMI is used to mass-catalog (Find Objects tab), the folder is always added. Objects in the catalog have ABSOLUTE paths, i.e. paths which include the container folder which should be hidden by VHM. This is incorrect. Can I work around this? Or should I file a bug in Collector? -- Milos Prudek

Getting zctl.py To Start ftpd-- Was: Is Anyone Listening?? Port 8021 Isn't!
by beno 04 Oct '02

04 Oct '02

It (finally) strikes me that the reason I can't get my ftpd started on port 8021 is because I'm using InstanceHome and zctl.py, not the standard *start* script in the distro. So...How do I get ftpd started from zctl.py? Here's what the script has: I'm trying to figure out how to pass a flag or tweak the script. Suggestions? for client in clients: args = list(zope_args) if client != 'default': ZOPE_PORT = ZOPE_LOG = ZOPE_OPTS = '' CLIENT_HOME = pjoin(HERE, client) conf = pjoin(CLIENT_HOME, 'conf.py') if not (isdir(CLIENT_HOME) and isfile(conf)): print 'Client configuration file "%s" was not found.' % conf continue execfile(conf, globals()) args.append('"CLIENT_HOME=%s"' % CLIENT_HOME) if ZOPE_OPTS: args.insert(0, ZOPE_OPTS) if ZOPE_PORT: args.insert(0, '-P %s' % ZOPE_PORT) if ZOPE_LOG: args.append('"STUPID_LOG_FILE=%s"' % ZOPE_LOG) for k,v in ZOPE_ENV.items(): env[k] = str(v) if ZEO: start_zeo(zeo_args) print 'Starting %s Zope...' % client run(cmd % string.join(args)) At 07:33 PM 10/2/2002 -0400, you wrote: >the $@ just gathers all the command line stuff you typed after "start" Thanks. >the Z2.log file is your standard web log, it should be in the var >directory. you don't see it? weird Oops.
