debugging a wayward zope process

I have a zope server (2.7.4) that I maintain and every now and then the python process that's running zope goes heywire and eats all of the cpu resources and basically make my website stop responding. Does anyone have any clues as to how I can debug this problem? I'm not the best python coder but I do know how to use pdb. And I'm looking for sorta where and what pieces would be the best place to start putting the trace() bits. ... but really any sort of guidance would help... here's a small bit from ps auxwwww showing a bit of what I mean, but when it *really* goes heywire it just eats all of my cpu and causes the load to shoot up near the 50s (on a dual opteron 275 processor machine) USER PID %CPU %MEM VSZ RSS TTY STAT START TIME COMMAND zecms 4062 12.6 8.9 830640 718768 ? Key Error in Catalog Reindex

(I have already cleared and rebuilt our catalog using the manage_catalogFind tab within the catalog). Are there certain object types that I should keep out of the catalog? Is the catalog getting too large, and maybe the reindex is taking too long to complete? b) are there any changes to the script \lib\python\OFS\DTMLMethod.py that I could make which would eliminate, or at least render this error message harmless? When this key error occurs, the catalog does not index fully, and so objects are left out of the catalog. Thanks for your advice. John T.

FW: Problem Starting Zope after Installation

Hi Zope ~ I just installed Zope 2.8.8 (version selected to match a server I'm developing for) on my Windows XP machine, using the instructions in the Zope Book (http://www.plope.com/Books/2_7Edition/InstallingZope.stx#0-0) and electing not to run it as a service. I can't get it to start - see the attached screen shot for the failure messages. ~ TIA ~ Ken

Running egg-packaged product tests

Hello, I'm trying to run tests for an egg-packaged product (deployed in development mode), with zope 2.10.1. I'm using the "zopectl test" command, with "--path" set to my product source directory. The problem is that the test runner seems to call the product initialize() function 2 times (one during zope initialization, and one during testrunner initialization), resulting in duplicated profile id declarations... Is there a way to run the tests for an egg-packaged product without setting the --path option to the source dir, in order to prevent this duplication ? Thanks Seb

Zope pretends to receive and send XMLRPC data, but strace sees nothing !

Thanks to it, I am now sure that the probleme is coming from zope. Giving access to error_log.showEntry to non-Manager users

Dear all, I'm trying to give all authenticated users access to the error log of an error that they just encountered. I'm using the error_log_url available in the standard_error_message to direct the user to the appropriate error log. This works fine for users with Manager role, but I cannot make it work for other authenticated users. I modified the error_log access to include 'View', 'View management screens' and 'Log Site Errors', but it doesn't help, unless I give 'View management screens' to Authenticated in the Zope root, which opens up too much. The actual access error is on 'manage_page_header' - I append the error traceback. I've also tried to access the error_log through a DTML with proxy set to Manager, to no avail. Any tips?
