I installed your product on my NT4 machine with Zope-5.0 but it does not work. I created before a "standard_object_folder" with a DTML inside document. Then the move outside the folder "standard_object_folder". When I try to add an AbracadabraObject I obtain the following message without capability to add this object. Add Abracadabra Object An Abracadabra Object is a pre-configured object from an acquired folder called standard_object_folder. You must create a folder with the id standard_object_folder with at least one object before you can use Abracadabra Object. Bye, FR.

Well, really, you should have 3 machines, probably on separate LANs: Devt - usually on a corporate private LAN, not externally accessible. QA - on production LAN - machine config should be identical to your production one (so should Devt but that doesn't always happen). Prod - external LAN, and not accessible by developers. "patch" to DocumentClass.py

Current code treats numbers in it's own paragraph as a NumberedText. This is especially problematic when one is trying to insert numbers in a StructuredTable. Hi Max, Your mail is very interesting for me, but I think I have missed something (I don't have experience with big sites and I'm reading your -i think- minimal product howto... so excuse me if I am trivial). In my opinion in Zope approach the structure of the site isn't so important, objects have properties and properties permit several (logical) views of the site and this is Zope's strength. For example (I'm only trying to explain my point of view), a teacher's document can have an author-name property, an author-role property, a course property, a topic property..., so it isn't important if the teacher changes school or work... (For several months I have used Zope only because it makes rapid to do simple work with rdbms, but now I think that Zope power is in ZODB). So I think Zope changes the problem from 'site structure' to 'find correct properties'. Can you tell me where I'm wrong? Thank you. Michele

I can't add an event from the Web Interface. I get prompted with a UID & PW screen. Admin doesn't work. Checked everything in accord with http://www.netkook.com/nk/Members/jeff/ef/faq but no go. Please help. Eric

External Method Problem

I am having a problem getting this external method to function. The external method is called from a DTML method which is the action for a form--the DTML method is used to delegate the action to this External Method. Basically this External Method takes some information from a form, munges it a bit, puts it into an XML wrapper and then wants to store it as a ParsedXML object in the target folder. It needs to be an external method because re.split() is not "safe". -------the method in abbreviated form is as follows --------------- def manifest2xml( self, str, targetfolder, REQUEST, RESPONSE ): import re from Products.ParsedXML.StrIO import StringIO from Products.ParsedXML.ParsedXML import manage_addParsedXML import OFS.ObjectManager # <<code here to munge str passed in as a parameter from form>> # <<output is a list of strings called xmlstr>> # <<the list output is put into a Unicode-safe file-like object>> sfd = StringIO( '\n'.join( xmlstr )) self.manage_addProduct['OFSP'].manage_addParsedXML( 'manifest_xml', title='manifest', file=sfd ) -------- end of method -------------------------- The diagnostic reported is an attribute error for manage_addParsedXML. The DTML method that calls this External Method is just a nest of dtml-with statements followed by the call <dtml-call expr="manifest2xml(textfield, 'targetdir', REQUEST, RESPONSE)"> A check of the Control Panel indicates that the ParsedXML product is properly installed. And, it is possible to use the product from the manage screens. I have verified by printing that both textfield and target are properly set. I believe self is also properly set--the signature of the External Method declartion matches that of the call so the local self at the source of the call is (presumably) provided. So, I am clearly confused. Anyone have a suggestion/pointer. -dra

reading File Objects from Python Scripts and External Methods

This relates to finding a workaround to my previous problem. I can create File objects with content='text/xml' using essentially the same program I was trying to use to write ParsedXML. The next problem is how to read them, again from an External Method or Python script, as a string. The plan is to convert the XML back into the simple markup to allow for editing. Of course, I discovered that the XML renders to nothing when evaluated using a <dtml-var .. >. :-(
