TAL and mysql
by Steven Pokrandt 16 Apr '02

Can someone point me to a good book or document and TAL's. That would include using external DB's like mysql. I've already read The Zope Book and the book on Zope. is there anything that goes into tal and such more in depth? Coming from the PHP world and this object orianted stuff makes sense, BUT I still fall back in my old ways. pokey

Re: AbracadabraObject installation problem

hi, > I created before a "standard_object_folder" with a DTML inside document. > Then the move outside the folder "standard_object_folder". When I try to > add an AbracadabraObject I obtain the following message without capability > to add this object. AbracadabraObject searches for the "standard_object_folder" in its current path or above. So please test the following: - Create a "normal" folder called 'test' and enter it. - In the 'test' folder create a 'standard_object_folder' and add an DTML Document to this folder. - Then go back into the folder 'test'. - Try to add an AbracadabraOject. Would be nice if you report if this works or not. greetings, maik. -- maik jablonski http://www.sachunterricht-online.de universitaet bielefeld http://www.zfl.uni-bielefeld.de zentrum fuer lehrerbildung tlph://+49.(0).521.106.4234

AbracadabraObject installation problem
by Francois-regis.Chalaoux＠sanofi-synthelabo.com 16 Apr '02

I installed your product on my NT4 machine with Zope-5.0 but it does not work. I created before a "standard_object_folder" with a DTML inside document. Then the move outside the folder "standard_object_folder". When I try to add an AbracadabraObject I obtain the following message without capability to add this object. Add Abracadabra Object An Abracadabra Object is a pre-configured object from an acquired folder called standard_object_folder. You must create a folder with the id standard_object_folder with at least one object before you can use Abracadabra Object. Bye, FR.

RE: [Zope] Re: [Zope-dev] Separate staging and development areas for a product
by Graham King 16 Apr '02

Well, really, you should have 3 machines, probably on separate LANs: Devt - usually on a corporate private LAN, not externally accessible. QA - on production LAN - machine config should be identical to your production one (so should Devt but that doesn't always happen). Prod - external LAN, and not accessible by developers. (this is Engineering practice, not just IT). -----Original Message----- From: John Ziniti [mailto:jziniti@speakeasy.org] Sent: Tuesday, 16 April 2002 3:39 To: Ted Skolnick Cc: zope(a)zope.org Subject: [Zope] Re: [Zope-dev] Separate staging and development areas for a product I took the liberty of moving this thread to zope, as it's probably better suited for that ML ... ZSQL Methods can be kept in different folders for Dev/Prod, but External Methods would require different modules for this, which will get hairy if you have many EM's. I think two machines is best, two Zope's is next (using INSTANCE_HOME), and a naming convention is next (Production_EM.py vs. Development_EM.py). > >I'd like to have a URL that looks like this... >http://myserver/myproj/mymethod without the Control_Panel bit. > To get that, you need to instantiate your product. Within the ZMI, use the "Add .." dropdown menu and create a new instance of the "myproj" method in the Root folder. Then your URL will work. _______________________________________________ Zope maillist - Zope(a)zope.org http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope ** No cross posts or HTML encoding! ** (Related lists - http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-announce http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev )

"patch" to DocumentClass.py
by Albert Ting 16 Apr '02

16 Apr '02

Current code treats numbers in it's own paragraph as a NumberedText. This is especially problematic when one is trying to insert numbers in a StructuredTable. There is probably a better way, but below is a simple patch that seems to solve the problem. *** DocumentClass.py Mon Apr 15 18:04:59 2002 --- DocumentClass.py~ Sun Feb 10 11:32:44 2002 *************** *** 726,728 **** ! expr = re.compile(r'(\s*[%s]\.)|(\s*[0-9]+\.)|(\s*[0-9]+\s+)' % letters).match, ! check = re.compile(r'^\s*([0-9]+)(\.[0-9]+)?\s*$').match): ! --- 726,727 ---- ! expr = re.compile(r'(\s*[%s]\.)|(\s*[0-9]+\.)|(\s*[0-9]+\s+)' % letters).match): ! *************** *** 739,742 **** - - if check(top): - return None - --- 737 ----

R: [Zope] Discussion: Best practice site struture (LONG)
by Zanotti Michele 15 Apr '02

15 Apr '02

Hi Max, Your mail is very interesting for me, but I think I have missed something (I don't have experience with big sites and I'm reading your -i think- minimal product howto... so excuse me if I am trivial). In my opinion in Zope approach the structure of the site isn't so important, objects have properties and properties permit several (logical) views of the site and this is Zope's strength. For example (I'm only trying to explain my point of view), a teacher's document can have an author-name property, an author-role property, a course property, a topic property..., so it isn't important if the teacher changes school or work... (For several months I have used Zope only because it makes rapid to do simple work with rdbms, but now I think that Zope power is in ZODB). So I think Zope changes the problem from 'site structure' to 'find correct properties'. Can you tell me where I'm wrong? Thank you. Michele

External Method Problem
by Dennis Allison 15 Apr '02

15 Apr '02

I am having a problem getting this external method to function. The external method is called from a DTML method which is the action for a form--the DTML method is used to delegate the action to this External Method. Basically this External Method takes some information from a form, munges it a bit, puts it into an XML wrapper and then wants to store it as a ParsedXML object in the target folder. It needs to be an external method because re.split() is not "safe". -------the method in abbreviated form is as follows --------------- def manifest2xml( self, str, targetfolder, REQUEST, RESPONSE ): import re from Products.ParsedXML.StrIO import StringIO from Products.ParsedXML.ParsedXML import manage_addParsedXML import OFS.ObjectManager # <<code here to munge str passed in as a parameter from form>> # <<output is a list of strings called xmlstr>> # <<the list output is put into a Unicode-safe file-like object>> sfd = StringIO( '\n'.join( xmlstr )) self.manage_addProduct['OFSP'].manage_addParsedXML( 'manifest_xml', title='manifest', file=sfd ) -------- end of method -------------------------- The diagnostic reported is an attribute error for manage_addParsedXML. The DTML method that calls this External Method is just a nest of dtml-with statements followed by the call <dtml-call expr="manifest2xml(textfield, 'targetdir', REQUEST, RESPONSE)"> A check of the Control Panel indicates that the ParsedXML product is properly installed. And, it is possible to use the product from the manage screens. I have verified by printing that both textfield and target are properly set. I believe self is also properly set--the signature of the External Method declartion matches that of the call so the local self at the source of the call is (presumably) provided. So, I am clearly confused. Anyone have a suggestion/pointer. -dra
