ZSqlMethod and Brain Class
by Delarue Christophe 15 Apr '02

15 Apr '02

This is my first Zope usage ... I've an ODBC Connection for two tables : FA -- ref name Done --- ref correction This Done table may not have a ref entry event if FA has. To edit the FA, I've got a ZSqlMethod SQLQuery which take a `ref' as arg. I edit this by http://host/SQLQuery/Ref/3414/EditRef the EditRef is a DtmlMethod which want to display something if there is data in the Done table. Thus I choose to associate a Brain Class to SQLQuery in which I use a ZSqlMethod SQLQueryDone which retrieve the full content of the Done table for a given ref. class Result: def treat(self): return self.SQLQueryDone(Ref=self.Ref) In the EditRef I've written : <dtml-if treat> <dtml-with treat> <dtml-var correction> </dtml-with> </dtml-if> If execute the query, I've got an Error : Error Type: KeyError Error Value: correction I suppose I've got a namespace problem. I do not understand. thank's for any help. NOTE : I've tried a SELECT xxx FROM xxx LEFT JOIN xxx but this is not understood by the ZODBCDA driver. -- Christophe DELARUE E-Generis Tel.: (+33) 299 842052 Fax.: (+33) 299 639331 13, sq. du Chene Germain / 35510 Cesson-Sevigne / France mailto:cdelarue@e-generis.com

Replicating ZSyncer
by Dianne Van Dulken 15 Apr '02

15 Apr '02

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone had ever replicated ZSyncer in their site. The problem I am having is that I have several portals on one Zope server. I want the managers of one portal to only be able to Sync the information for that portal (actually, only the content information, not the actual procedures too). However, whenever I use ZSyncer, it shows all the portals. I had a look at the ZSyncer python script, but can't really work out how to replicate the display of the items to be synced. I'm, alas, not that well versed in python (I'm working on it), and the bits that I have copied from it just die horribly, right at the start when I am calling globals. Has anyone done this, and can you then give me a starting point? I really just need to know where to start. Thanks! Di

page templates and wysiwyg-editors
by Thomas 15 Apr '02

15 Apr '02

Hi, I try to edit page templates wth dreamweaver 4. I read Michel Pelletiers HowTo on zope.org, but at the main point I'm really confused. He says: Now, log into your Zope and create a folder called FileLib. In this folder, create a page template called index_html by selecting Page Template from the add menu, specifying the id index_html in the form, and clicking Add. Now, with your editor, save the above HTML to the URL http://your.zope/FileLib/index_html/source.html. Notice that the URL to save the index_html page ends in source.html. Because page templates are dynamic, you need a way to edit the raw source of the template, unrendered by the page template language. Appending source.html to a page template gives you this raw source. My question is, how can I save source.html to /index_html/source.html if index_html is a page template and not a folder? I tried it without success (Zope 2.5.1, win2k pro). Best regards Thomas

Object without Undo?
by Terry Hancock 15 Apr '02

15 Apr '02

Hi All, I'm creating an "infinite-set" type product which generates objects on-the-fly based on their URL. In general many more objects are possible than are reasonable to store, yet relatively few would be used at any one time. Hence, a sensible approach is to provide a cache of recently requested objects and serve from the cache whenever feasible. After several design iterations, and one (mostly) working model, which unfortunately didn't scale too well, I've decided on actually inheriting from "ObjectManager" and storing the objects in the main object. As objects expire from the cache, they are deleted. However, with the way Zope's database works, I have to wonder if I'm actually acheiving anything -- the deleted files are still taking up space until the database is packed! So, I'm wondering if (via Zope's API, as this is a Python-based product), there's a way to mark an object as not undoable -- i.e. when it gets deleted, it's really gone. The alternative would seem to be to pack the whole database frequently. Which is what I'll do if there's no other way. It appears that I can get the desired behavior by overloading the _getOb() method of ObjectManager and catching the case of a request for a non-existent object -- if it happens, I just call the code to make the object, add it with _setObject() and then let _getOb() continue with the request, which should now succeed. I presume this would make the cached object visible to Zope calls in all the usual ways (e.g. URL: "parent/cached_obj", Python: "parent.cached_obj", etc). My previous implementation used __getattr__() directly and only worked for the URL approach. Any comments or ideas appreciated, thanks! using Page Templ.: to change meta_ type of objects
by Giovanni Angeli 14 Apr '02

14 Apr '02

in order to use page template in Zope I build a "template site" on my HTML editor on my local PC, where I see the default values of tals. Then I FTP-Upload the whole directory structure on Zope on remote server. Now I want to tell Zope to execute the tal statements inside the html files, but Zope don't knows it has to consider them as "Page Template" objects. How can I change their Meta_Type in an automatic way?

Copying objects in ZODB programmatically
by Noel Duffy 14 Apr '02

14 Apr '02

I am trying to make a copy of an object in my ZODB using manage_copyObjects and manage_pasteObjects. I have code like this: import Zope app=Zope.app() x=app.manage_copyObjects([app['getad'].id]) app.manage_pasteObjects(x) This raises an exception, like so: Traceback (innermost last): File "test.py", line 9, in ? app.manage_pasteObjects(x) File "lib\python\OFS\CopySupport.py", line 203, in manage_pasteObjects self._verifyObjectPaste(ob) File "lib\python\OFS\CopySupport.py", line 393, in _verifyObjectPaste if getSecurityManager().validate(None, parent, None, meth): File "/MC2\lib\python\AccessControl\SecurityManager.py", line 139, in validate self._context) File "/MC2\lib\python\AccessControl\ZopeSecurityPolicy.py", line 211, in valid ate raise 'Unauthorized', ( Unauthorized: You are not authorized to access <em>methodAdd</em>. However, I cannot see how to have my script authenticate itself to the ZODB so I can do the copy/paste. Can anyone tell me what I need to do here? Do I need to use Zope.AccessControl.SecurityManagement.newSecurityManager somehow? I'm using Zope 2.2.4, which for reasons too long to go into here I cannot change. There are other ways, but this is simple and it works. _______________________ Ron Bickers Logic Etc, Inc.

Trouble with TimeStamp.o on install?
by Longley, Josh 14 Apr '02

I've been spending the night trying to get Zope to compile on my system. It is an Intel based Solaris 8 box. I'm (now), using Python 2.1.2. I've poked and prodded at it every which way I can think of, but always end up with the following error: gcc -fPIC -g -O2 -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -I/usr/local/include/python2.1 -I/usr/local/include/python2.1 -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I../../Components/ExtensionClass/src -c ././cPersistence.c -o ./cPersistence.o gcc -shared ./cPersistence.o -o ./cPersistence.so ld: warning: global symbol `_DYNAMIC' has non-global binding: (file /usr/local/lib/gcc-lib/i386-pc-solaris2.8/3.0.1/../../../libgcc_s.so value=LOCL); ld: warning: global symbol `_GLOBAL_OFFSET_TABLE_' has non-global binding: (file /usr/local/lib/gcc-lib/i386-pc-solaris2.8/3.0.1/../../../libgcc_s.so value=LOCL); gcc -fPIC -g -O2 -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -I/usr/local/include/python2.1 -I/usr/local/include/python2.1 -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I../../Components/ExtensionClass/src -c ././cPickleCache.c -o ./cPickleCache.o gcc -shared ./cPickleCache.o -o ./cPickleCache.so ld: warning: global symbol `_DYNAMIC' has non-global binding: (file /usr/local/lib/gcc-lib/i386-pc-solaris2.8/3.0.1/../../../libgcc_s.so value=LOCL); ld: warning: global symbol `_GLOBAL_OFFSET_TABLE_' has non-global binding: (file /usr/local/lib/gcc-lib/i386-pc-solaris2.8/3.0.1/../../../libgcc_s.so value=LOCL); gcc -fPIC -g -O2 -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -I/usr/local/include/python2.1 -I/usr/local/include/python2.1 -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I../../Components/ExtensionClass/src -DUSE_EXTENSION_CLASS -c ././TimeStamp.c -o ./TimeStamp.o Assembler: TimeStamp.c "/var/tmp/ccHjoJfg.s", line 1003 : Illegal mnemonic "/var/tmp/ccHjoJfg.s", line 1003 : Syntax error "/var/tmp/ccHjoJfg.s", line 1003 : Illegal mnemonic make: *** [TimeStamp.o] Error 1 Traceback (most recent call last): File "wo_pcgi.py", line 45, in ? Getting the contents of an acquired dtml method in a python script
by Howard Hansen 14 Apr '02

14 Apr '02

I'm sure this is something simple, but none of my searches have uncovered the magical sequence. I've got several sites running from a single Zope folder. Some of the content and much of the functionality is shared among the different states. Each state folder contains dtml methods containing state-specific information (abbreviation, the id number used in the database, etc.) My script needs to get the contents of the abbreviation method for some URL munging, and I can't for the life of me figure out how to get it via script. Any suggestions? Thanks! Howard Hansen http://howardsmusings.com P.S., I figured out a clunky workaround -- just passing the stateid as an argument to the script, but I'm still curious about how to do this.

modifying resolve_url method
by Steven Turoff 14 Apr '02

14 Apr '02

Greetings, I am new to Object Oriented Programming and want to know what the best way to modify the resolve_url method is. I need to add one line of code to this method. I'm guessing I can edit lib/python/ZPublisher/HTTPRequest.py, recompile it, and restart Zope. Is there a better way? The reason I need to do this is because I am using a SiteRoot and zope is generating a "Different Namespace" error when I do something like <dtml-var "REQUEST.resolve_url(URL1)"> Thanks, Steve
