Connecting to an Access database

Hi there, I am trying to connect to an MSAccess database. I have downloaded and installed the zodbca database adaptor, and I am able to select "ZODBC databse connection" from the ADD list. I have created an Access database in zope_home/Access_dbs called "test.mdb" However I do not know what to put for a connection string... What should the "data source name" be? I tried using the pathname to the databse, ie "C:\Program Files\WendyZopePlay\Access_dbs\test.mdb" - however this generates an "Invalid connection String" Error. I do not think that the database needs a password, or at least I wasn't asked about one when I created it, so would I just leave "username" and "password" blank? zope seems to just "know" where the gadfly databases are kept, ie in /var/gadfly, but how would I tell it where other databases are? Could anyone let me know or direct me to some documentation? IE5 Windows Not Behaving as Expected

I've been maintaining my Zope site primarily using my Macintosh, where I run IE5, Netscape 4.7, Netscape 6, and/or Opera at various times. With the exception of Opera, things work fine, and Opera's problems are probably related to the state of development of the version I'm using. But I have a Win2K system as well and I sometimes need to use it for stuff. Tonight I tried to maintain my Zope instance in IE5.0 on this machine, but when I click on the name of an object in the Zope editor, instead of opening it in edit mode, it views the page. This means I'm not getting into the editor *and* I can't for the life of me figure out how to do so once I'm in that view mode. Am I doing something stupid or wrong or is this a known bug or issue or what?

Clarification of a list of lists as a parameter to a python script.

Hello Thanks to all who have responded before. This is like some misunderstanding of the Python scripts working and just want to make clear to ourselves how things work here, so, please bear with us: A plain Python function does accept a "list of lists" as a parameter and then performs a wide number of different functions with that list of lists, like sorting it or addressing each of the sublists, even address any individual item on any of the sublists. It happens that I have been unable to pass a "list of lists" as a parameter to a Python Script (within Zope, of course), and perform the same functions that are done on the function outside of Zope. Besides some specific python functionality that it is not available due to security reasons and the use of the "return printed" for stuff that gets printed out from the python script, my understanding is that the python script should behave exactly the same if it is executed as a standalone *.py function (program) or if it is executed as a python script. Is this statement correct? If so, what is the correct way of passing a list of lists as a parameter to a python script ? I have the following example: The DTML Document: <form method="POST" action="myscript"> Data: <input type=text name="XX:list" size=50 > <input type="submit" value="ASIGNAR"></td> </form> The myscript python script with "XX" as the parameter print XX XX.sort() print XX if same_type(XX,[]): print "It is a list" return printed What is put into the form ( a list of lists) is: [['c','b','a'],['a','b','c'],['a','a','d']] What I get from the script is: ["[['c','b','a'],['a','b','c'],['a','a','d']]"] ["[['c','b','a'],['a','b','c'],['a','a','d']]"] It is a list Which is a list (indeed) BUT with only one element as it -somehow- gets surrounded by quotes, that is it is NOT a "list of lists" but a list with one string element. I'd expect to get the same list back, then the sorted lists within the main list and later on I could reference the elements with something like XX[sublistnum][elementnum] kind of construction. Any ideas on how to overcome this issue.? The idea is NOT to modify already working python routines -except for the printed variable and security stuff whenever necessary-, just to Zope-fy the application if you know what i mean. Hi, Ken. Sorry for taking a while to get back to you: I was out of town. Briefly (since I think this will mean you can't use it), yes, my virtual host tools are really only useful for working with Zope. And, unfortunately, no, there are not any Zope tools that I know of to help with virtual hosting content outside of Zope. Zope is not a language, of course (Python is its primary language), but an environment. If you don't want to work with Zope (and RDBMS content) primarily, with external content as occasional extras, then you may need to look elsewhere. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask. I am cc'ing this to the zope list in case anyone wants to correct me. Help with unconsistent behavior of parameter passing to Python Scripts.

Hello all: Having the following Python script: if same_type(RR,[]): return "It is a list" if same_type(RR,'abcd'): return "it is a string" If I use on the parameter's list (sme scrren where the Python script is edited) the value: RR=[['04-03-2001','0900','MEX','PBA','0300','N'],['04-03-2001','1100','MTY','NLD','0300','N'],['04-03-2001','1600','NLD','MTY','0300','N']] and proceed to TEST the script with the test tab, I am asked for the value of RR (two fields), if I give nothing, then the message "It is a list" is printed, as expected. But, if the same thing, (except the initial RR=) is fed into the values field at the test page, then the result comes as a "string", which is NOT the intended effect. This is just a brief test to find out what is going on, the goal is to be able to feed into a Python script, a list of lists that the script will process and output another list of lists. We have been unable to obtain this as the scripts always ends getting a string instead of the wanted list (of lists). Can anyone be so kind to explain the behavior of this ? And, to provide some samples on how to make this work correctly ? By the way, we started with a perfectly working *.py program file , converting it into a script which behave on a similar way to the test just shown. Thanks in advance for your help. Edward. patch to ClassicStructuredText

Is ClassicStructuredText still being used? I like the "Table" related features, which doesn't seem to be supported in StructuredText. In any case, the Table.create() method needs a minor tweak. With python 2.1, the current regex doesn't understand \0x00. Otherwise any columsn with a "0" or "x" will make the table invalid. def create(self,aPar, td_reg=re.compile(r'[ \t\n]*\|\|([^\0x00|]*)') ): Instead, I think it should be this. def create(self,aPar, td_reg=re.compile(r'[ \t\n]*\|\|([^\0|]*)') ):

Zope FTP Server.

Sorry, it seems that I should sent my question to here instead of zope-dev. Here is my question, and hope to know what do you think. --- I use Dreamweaver to let user upload files in zope. I create a folder and add an account for an user and give him role "Manager" so that he can do everything in that folder. The he login with Dreamweaver, try to delete file, then he got a "530 Unauthorized." I try to read the Z2.log, Dreamweaver issue a commend "CWD /" and this use has no permission in directory "/" so he got a fail. Could we change the behavior of zope ftp that if we chandir to '/' or the directory above current directory, we always success ? The Other Qestion is Some one here ftp upload some file, and make ftp port down. Well it's not reproducable, so forget it. But then he turn to webdav in Dreamweaver, he fail again. In the log, he is always 'Anonymous' even he have account in root folder. Is anyone else has this problem, too ? Thank you very much. Yuan-Chen Cheng

Yes, I even went so far as to rename the old tar and copy GNU tar into /usr/bin just to make sure. Though this did get me at first.
