Anybody have an Apache rewrite rule laying around that forces all http://www.mysite.org/SomeFolderLikeObject/manage/ requests to https://www.mysige.org/SomeFolderLikeObject/manage/ I can not seem to figure one out that works at all the levels "manage" is applicable. Carl

Testing interactive products
by Gabriel Genellina 11 Apr '02

11 Apr '02

Hi I have an interactive product that behaves like a 'wizard', with many stages and links and choices along the path the user can take. I want to test it, and of course a "random-click-and-select-here-and-there" is inadmisible as a testing practice. I need at least documented, repeatable test cases, with its inputs and expected output. And a way to perform a set of test cases (automatically would be great). This is not strictly a Zope question, because the same thing could happen in many other interactive applications but I guess someone has got into this before. I dont want to write down things like "Write XXX on first input box, then select item YYY from list, then press CONTINUE button. Next page must have a list of 4 items, each with a blue icon and a link to...". I want to do the test in a more automatic way, but I cant realize how to do that... Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Gabriel Genellina Softlab SRL

Checking Authenticated User Name???
by Jason Burke 11 Apr '02

11 Apr '02

Greetings All, I apologize if this question has been asked before, but I searched (and searched, and searched), but couldn't find any hint of an answer. The question that I have is: What's the best way to query the logged in user's name in a python script (not external script and not with DTML)? The API docs mention something about an AuthenticatedUser class, but I can't find the object anywhere in my ./Zope/lib/python directory, and it doesn't appear to be a class in any of the zope modules that I searched through. I did notice a reference to something like this... REQUEST.AUTHENTICATED_USER.getUserName() but, this doesn't seem like it would be any more secure than just assigning REQUEST.AUTHENTICATED_USER to a variable. I'll be eternally grateful to the person who can answer this, or provide me with a good resource that can answer this. =) Sincerely, Jason Burke

The mailing list archives have some similar threads (not that many). Reasons have been: Networking/DNS problems: in some cases, Zope maps IP-addresses to Hostnames. This is a DNS query which can be very unpredictable. Once, a virus checker has been responsible slowing the the machine in an incredible way. Once, it was an email message generated in "standard_html_message". The connection to the email server hang. The Zope owner was unaware that "standard_html_message" was called (it was for an "Unauthorized" exception. Usually, you do not see the error report). Of course, there are much more potential reasons. Dieter

MySQLDA on BSD
by Ed Colmar 11 Apr '02

11 Apr '02

Hey all. I'm assisting with a BSD server that is attempting to get zope/MySQLDA going. Now, I know very little about BSD, and I don't have root. So, I'm just trying to get some information to pass on to the admin. Basically, zope and zope-MySQLDA were both installed from the BSD ports tree. Zope is running fine, and the ZMysqlda seems to be installed correctly. However the _mysql.so module was not in the right place, so I had him move it into the zope python path. Now, We're getting init failed on this module. Any ideas on this? Should we be building this from the source, or is there an easy solution using this existing file? Thanks! -ed-

Searching: Zcatalog, what else?
by Paul Winkler 11 Apr '02

11 Apr '02

Hi all, re. search engines in zope: I know there's Zcatalog, but I'm curious what my other options are for implementing searches. Simply finding a string in the body of a document would be great. For example, How would you do text search if your data is in an SQL database? Maintain a separate text index and update it every so often? You can tell I'm no dba. :) -- Paul Winkler home: http://www.slinkp.com "Muppet Labs, where the future is made - today!"

Zope crashing - updating Python 2.1.3
by Sion Morris 11 Apr '02

11 Apr '02

Hi, For a while Zope has been crashing frequently. I have attempted to solve the crashing by following the suggestions offered by Matthew Kromer on ZopeNewbies at http://www.zopenewbies.net/1012338535/index_html (Run single threaded, updating ZMySQLDA, change Script_magic constant, set environment variable ZOPE_SECURITY_POLICY, applying a patch, updating Zope to 2.5.1b1.) None of the suggestions made a difference :-( On Zope newbies today I saw this: "While the most recent release of Python is 2.2, there are a couple of bugs that have come up since 2.1.2 was released, in particular one bug that caused Zope to crash." Hooray... But the binary distribution of Zope 2.5.1b1, which I have installed, comes with Python 2.1.2. How do I update this Python to 2.1.3? Thanks in advance for any help, Sion
