Inconsistant behavior (long)

I have a DTML object that calls an external method which returns an image. It works correctly for some images, but not for others. I am using Zope 2.5.0, python2.1.3 on Linux 2.4.18. I get the following traceback when it doesn't work: Zope Zope Error Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. Error Type: TypeError Error Value: argument 2 must be string or read-only buffer, not ImplicitAcquirerWrapper Troubleshooting Suggestions * The URL may be incorrect. * The parameters passed to this resource may be incorrect. * A resource that this resource relies on may be encountering an error. SSL
by D.Rick Anderson 11 Apr '02

What is the best method for implementing SSL for Zope on RedHat 7.1? I've tried the Apache front-end thing and it works for our local network but the web server is behind a firewall and something about portforwarding keeps it from working through the firewall. Isn't there some product that you can simply install into Zope that gives you SSL capability? I looked into MCrypto but it wouldn't compile correctly on this box. TIA Rick

Zope Tutorial Problems
by scollyer＠netspinner.co.uk 11 Apr '02

11 Apr '02

I'm having problems with the Zope Tutorial in Zope 2.5.0 binary distribution under Linux (kernel 2.4.10, SuSe 7.3 distro). a) I'm running Zope via ZServer as a non-root user, and I've added the tutorial to the Examples folder via the "Select Type to Add" menu. This seems to have worked fine, but when I select lesson 1, I get a long red message, telling me that "Zope cannot find the tutorial examples ..." b) I've created a new folder under the Zope Tutorial folder for the "Elvis Lives" site, and I created the DTML doc home.html by following the instructions in the tutorial. However, when I come to view it, I get a Zope Error like this: Error Type: KeyError Error Value: header.gif and a Python traceback. This looks as if Zope is failing to find header.gif, which may be related to the first problem. Anyone know what's going on here ? I have chmod'ed the whole of the Zope installation tree to a+w prior to running the start script, so I'm assuming it's not a perms problem. Steve Collyer

zope canon?
by zopedan 11 Apr '02

11 Apr '02

Is there any zope cannonical collection of whats useful/used in zope development, and what is not? I have a product I'm thiking of working on and I was looking at Zpatterns and thought, "Hey this sounds neat". Then I Thought "This doesn't look like its been updated in a few months, and the zope book only briefly mentions it's existance, does this mean I should think about using it, or that it's been enveloped by another project/product I should use instead, or that It's useless and dead?" Now I am suffering from i-bet-everyone-knows-the-answer-but-me-itis. "Does the whole zope community either no this is a dead end or that it's 'like the ONLY' starting point for a project like mine". Why should I re-invent the wheel when someone else has done the work for me? But at the moment I can't seem to find a way to tell square wheels from round ones. I know there is not only one way to do something in zope, but there are bad ways and better ways. Instead of asking specifically about Zpatterns I'll ask about products in general, how (without simply knowing before hand and working for d.c) do I know what is a good or bad starting place for a project. -Dan Narkiewicz

Session Mgmt. with Session Id Manager
by Marc Ende 11 Apr '02

11 Apr '02

Hi there, I've tried to use Sessions on my zope-site for authentication features... Is there any good documentation about the session data manager and the browser id manager. I've been searching the whole night but I've only found sql - sessionmanager, happy... etc. etc.... But I haven't found a good docu about the included one. (Even the ZopeBook doesn't tell much about sessions) cheers marc

setting default security permissions
by Tom Cameron 10 Apr '02

10 Apr '02

I am building a python product. I am having trouble getting default security permissions to set. I am able to declare the permission properly, but the defaults dont work. I try the line security = ClassSecurityInfo() security.setPermissionDefault('View User Home', ['Anonymous','Authenticated']) security.declareProtected('View User Home', 'home') The 'declareProtected' works, but the 'setPermissionDefault' has no effect on anything. I have no idea what else I need to be doing. Tom

zope and apache

I've read all the howto's and I can't get it to work. What silly thing have I overlooked? I'm running debian testing. httpd.conf has: ---- begin httpd.conf extract ---- FastCgiExternalServer /var/www/swim \ -host localhost:9673 \ -pass-header Authorization \ -appConnTimeout 0 <Location /swim> SetHandler fastcgi-script </Location> LoadModule fastcgi_module /usr/lib/apache/1.3/mod_fastcgi.so ---- end httpd.conf extract ---- When I put http://localhost/swim in the browser I get a server error: [Wed Apr 10 10:55:08 2002] [error] [client 64.34.82.201] FastCGI: comm with server "/var/www/swim" aborted: idle timeout (30 sec) When I put http://localhost:9673/swim in the browser I get the correct page served by zope. DocumentRoot is /var/www and there is no /var/www/swim. -- "Once the principle of government -- judicial monopoly and the power to tax -- is incorrectly accepted as just, any notion of restraining government power and safeguarding individual liberty and property is illusory." -- Hans-Herman Hoppe Rick Pasotto rickp(a)telocity.com http://www.niof.net

Can I change the 404 page?
by Paul 10 Apr '02

10 Apr '02

Hi, I've had a look through the Zope book shelf and I haven't been able to find out how to set up a custom 404 error page. Is this possible? And can anyone recommend a book on zope to complement the zope book shelf? Thanks Paul.

Renaming objects in the ZODB
by Sean McGrath 10 Apr '02

10 Apr '02

I need to find a way to rename objects in the ZODB while Zope is not running. i.e. by importing and manipulating the ZODB directly. Nothing immediately jumps out at me from looking at the ZODB HowTo and other materials. Any pointers? regards, Sean
