question how to access ZCatalog with python
by Robert Rottermann 29 Mar '02

29 Mar '02

Hi there, I have a catalog with a path- and a field index called path and page_type. in python I call them like this brains = Catalog({'path' : path, 'page_type':'personpage'}) Now I would expect that only records fulfilling both conditions would be returned. However all that mach the first condition are selected. Could somebody tell me where my assumption is wrong, and what remedy is appropriate. Thank you Robert www.redcor.ch

Cannot add tutorial: connection error
by Ulrich Rueth 29 Mar '02

29 Mar '02

Hi all, I'm new to Zope and tried to add the tutorial to my workspace. After entering the ID and pressing "Add", I got this Mozilla (I'm running Zope under SuSE Linux/Mozilla0.9.9) error message box telling me "The connection was refused when attempting to contact localhost:8080" Additionally, I got the Python error message in the window where I started Zope (unfortunately in German, I'll try to translate it) python: Python/ceval.c:687: eval_code2: Zusicherung »(stack_pointer - f->f_valuestack) <= f->f_stacksize« nicht erfüllt. which is in English something like python: Python/ceval.c:687: eval_code2: Criterium »(stack_pointer - f->f_valuestack) <= f->f_stacksize« not met. Can anybody give me a hand? Your help is appreciated! Regards, Ulrich

WebDAV, Object types: Fie!
by Iago 29 Mar '02

29 Mar '02

(First off, thanks for the tips on the breadcrumb stuff... I got it working) I've got some content I want to migrate into a new zope, and WebDAV currently looks like my best option (I'm on MacOS X, uploading to a zope living on a sun box). I've got the WebDAV working fine. When I drop *.html files into the dav windows, the files upload as DTML Document object types. The problem is, I want them uploading as Files, not DTML Documents, darn it... or at least, I seem to want to. See, when I put this in a python script: print context['content.html'] ... if it's a DTML document, I get the source of the DTML document, HTML escaped. By contrast, if it's a File (text/html), it just passes the HTML on through. So I guess there are two solutions, but I'll settle for one of them 1) How do I change the object type of an object? (I doubt this is possible, so a corollary would be, how do I get WebDAV to stop treating my .html files as DTML Documents) 2) How do I get a python script to recognize that if the content.html object is a DTML Document, it should not escape the HTML? -- Fred Hicks <iago(a)iago.net>

product recommendation; lightweight discussion board
by John Hunter 29 Mar '02

29 Mar '02

I have a site that I am setting up where students can upload draft versions of papers they are working on and receive feedback from the other students and teaching assistants. I would like to attach a small, lightweight (preferably threaded) discussion/forum where students can add comments, other students can respond to the comments, etc... I would like to have a discussion associated with each student's paper. Suggestions? John Hunter Zope 2.5.x

ZClass view crashes on title_or_id
by John Hunter 29 Mar '02

29 Mar '02

I have a Zclass which inherits from ObjectManager and have a property sheet set on the ZClass. I created a view associated with an index_html method that is defined for the ZClass. When I try to access the view, I get a pop up window asking for authorization (which always fails) and then when I cancel the authorization dialog I get Error Type: Unauthorized Error Value: You are not allowed to access title_or_id in this context Here is index_html: <dtml-var standard_html_header> This is a test <dtml-var standard_html_footer> The problem is coming from the standard_html_header, because if I take out the header and footer, I display 'This is a test' as plain text without error. I as assuming that my ZClass should have inherited title_or_id and that something is not working right. Can anyone advise? I don't think this is really an authorization problem because I am logged in as a user that has Manager and Owner privileges in root. Thanks, John Hunter Zope-2.5.2

Help -> Problem with NT Service,External Method,COM
by S S 29 Mar '02

29 Mar '02

Hi there, I have this strange problem cropping up in Zope. I have no idea why its happening even after hours of trying to figure it out. Heres the problem : I have developed a Python code to open Microsoft Word through the win32com package and produce a document depending on the user's parameters and some predecided formatting. Here's a snippet followd by my problem description : import sys sys.coinit_flags=0 COINIT_FREETHREADED=0 import os import string import pythoncom import win32com from win32com.client import Dispatch def run_pyth_worddoc_gen_module(rootdir,reqtitle,reqno,date,responsibleperson,signature,datasubmitted,vermessage,components=None): pythoncom.CoInitializeEx(COINIT_FREETHREADED) myword=None try: logfile=open(rootdir + '\\verification_generator.log','a') logfile.write('\nstarting..') myword=None myword = win32com.client.Dispatch('Word.Application') logfile.write('\nstarting..0') myword.Visible = 0 logfile.write('\nstarting..1') mydoc = myword.Documents.Add(Template=rootdir + '\\python_verification_project1.dot') logfile.write('\nopened word') selection = myword.Selection i=selection.MoveRight(Unit=1,Count=12) i=selection.TypeText(Text=reqtitle) i=selection.MoveDown(Unit=5, Count=2) I wrote the code for it and ran it from Python and had no problems generating the Word document. The logfile which i use also shows no problems. Now,I tried calling this method from Zope,by importing it as an External Method. And I couldnt go beyond this line : myword = win32com.client.Dispatch('Word.Application') My logfile shows only "starting..", ie. the line before the above code is called. I have Zope running as an NT Service.I also have another version of Python installed(2.1) apart from the Python which comes with Zope. It gets weirder. After stopping the NT Service and running it from the startup.bat file(throws up the COmmand prompt window) and running the External Method from ZOpe,the code works like a dream. There seems to be some problem when I run Zope as a service,it stops at the Dispatch command. On viewing the Windows Task Manager,WINWORD(exe for Word) throws up when the code is called, but when the code works(when Im running it straight from Python or running it from Zope started from the start.bat file),the WINWORD process seems to take memory(13megs) and when finished it exits cleanly. However when running from the Zope started by the NT Service, as mentioned it hangs at the Dispatch line, but the Task Manager shows that WINWORD process has started but its memory usage is static at 2.884 MB. The error stacktrace is as follows when Zope runs as an NT Service: Traceback (innermost last): File E:\PROGRA~1\WebSite\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 150, in publish_module File E:\PROGRA~1\WebSite\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 114, in publish File E:\PROGRA~1\WebSite\lib\python\Zope\__init__.py, line 158, in zpublisher_exception_hook (Object: verification) File E:\PROGRA~1\WebSite\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 98, in publish File E:\PROGRA~1\WebSite\lib\python\ZPublisher\mapply.py, line 88, in mapply (Object: run_pyth_worddoc_gen_module) File E:\PROGRA~1\WebSite\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 39, in call_object (Object: run_pyth_worddoc_gen_module) File E:\PROGRA~1\WebSite\lib\python\Products\ExternalMethod\ExternalMethod.py, line 202, in __call__ (Object: run_pyth_worddoc_gen_module) File E:\Program Files\WebSite\Extensions\run_pyth_worddoc_gen_module.py, line 24, in run_pyth_worddoc_gen_module File e:\program files\Python21\win32com\client\__init__.py, line 92, in Dispatch File e:\program files\Python21\win32com\client\dynamic.py, line 81, in _GetGoodDispatchAndUserName File e:\program files\Python21\win32com\client\dynamic.py, line 72, in _GetGoodDispatch com_error: (see above) Any ideas people?. Hi! I have some problems with getting Xron running on my linux box /w Zope 2.5.1b1/Python 2.1.2. I have already seen many workarounds in the archive for Xron on linux, but I can't get it running. FYI: DevGuide (BackTalk) code updated
by Chris McDonough 28 Mar '02

28 Mar '02

I have updated the code that runs Zope.org's Developer's Guide (http://www.zope.org/Documentation/ZDG) with new code that does Python and DTML color syntax highlighting (special thanks to Juergen Hermann and Adam Kendall). It also now allows for multiline comments so folks can put code into comments without it getting terribly messed up. I hope to put the Zope Book into this system soon. If you want the code that allows you to do this, you can get it from http://sourceforge.net/projects/backtalk/ . You can also add BackTalk Books and BackTalk Documents in your accounts on Zope.org. Enjoy! - C
