DTML within DTML?
by Colin Fox 28 Mar '02

28 Mar '02

I'm trying to set up a dynamic redirect, and I can't figure out the syntax. Given there's a variable called 'record_id', and I have a page called 'edit' which takes a parameter called 'r_id', here's the redirect statement I'd like to use: <dtml-call expr="RESPONSE.redirect('edit?r_id=record_id')"> I need the record_id field to be evaluated, but the rest to be used literally. How do I do this? THX. -- Colin Fox cfox(a)crystalcherry.com CF Consulting Inc. GPG Fingerprint: D8F0 84E7 E7CC 5C6C 9982 F1A7 A3EB 6EA3 BC97 572F

Content Management Solution
by Ganeshan, Rajkumar (IWMI-HQ) 28 Mar '02

28 Mar '02

Dear Zope Users, Developers and Zope Support, Let me introduce myself first. I am Raj, webmaster for International Water Management Institute (IWMI) . We are in the process of automating our workflow and document flow for our website and intranet. The solution is a Content management server. We are an International Scientific Research Organization ( Non Governmental Org ) researching on Water Management issues. I have extensively studied a couple of content management servers and at last shortlisted two. One is Zope and the other one is Interwoven's Teamsite. Interwoven's team site boasts of a hybrid system that is both data-base driven and static document content. But as far as I have studied if I am not mistaken Zope doesnt support a hybrid solution. Its only database driven. We have already build the website up and running ( www.iwmi.org) and in the process of building our intranet. The website consists of about 6,000 to 7,000 html pages. So when it comes to migration issues to Zope, does Zope support these static documents as it is ? And does Zope support XML templating ? And does Zope support file management concepts ? And can we use Zope with Adobe Framemaker ? Other than these 4 issues I am completely satisfied with the product. Please clarify as soon as possible. Thanks with regards, Raj Webmaster, IWMI, Sri Lanka.

Traps for the unwary...
by Graham King 28 Mar '02

28 Mar '02

Just thought I'd mention in passing... no need for responses or navel gazing. :) We have two identical Zope envts on different OS platforms. (python 2.1.2, gcc 2.95.3, Zope 2.5.0 on openBSD 3.0 and Solaris 8) We migrated a Zope DTML application from Solaris systems (where it worked fine on 3 different Zope instances) to two openBSD systems. An obscure bit of "superfluous" DTML code caused lib/python/DTML.py to crash. Of course, when using ProxyPass method, it caused Zope itself to crash, but if we used FastCGI or port 8080, then it just failed... The offending code (marked *) <dtml-if sequence-end> * <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('span', (5 - (_.int(_.getitem('sequence-number')) % 4)) )"> * <dtml-if "_.getitem('span') > 4"><dtml-call "REQUEST.set('span', 1)"></dtml-if> <dtml-else> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('span', 1)"> </dtml-if> then fixed with: <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('span', 1 )"> <dtml-if "_.getitem('span') > 4"><dtml-call "REQUEST.set('span', 1)"></dtml-if> In hindsight, the programmer qualifies this with: "ok.. but be prepared for some abuse about the shitty code.. I don't remember what I was thinking at the time and I could not understand what I was doing when I read it back.. that is generally a sign of bad code :)" We're all still learning.... :) I was just surprised (read "horrified", since it was production) that some DTML appln code would crash Zope itself. I put it down to the vagaries of C compiles on different platforms. cheers all hope you have a code-free Easter holiday... Graham

ZSQL question
by Colin Fox 28 Mar '02

28 Mar '02

Hi, all. I have a ZSQL insert function that requires an optional parameter. The variables are coming from an HTML form, and one of the variables is a checkbox. Apparently, if the checkbox is unchecked, the variable doesn't appear. As a small example, let's say there were two strings and a checkbox, labelled str1, str2 and cb. I need this: insert into mytable(col1, col2, col3) values (str1, str2, cb) as well as insert into mytable(col1, col2) values (str1, str2) if cb is None. I can't find any examples of optional insert variables, just optional join parameters. Also - is there a comprehensive ZSQL document anywhere? RE: [Zope] IIS, PCGI, authentication

I currently have this (IIS / PCGI / ZOPE) working fine. From dim memory you may also have to turn off the IIS 'custom error handling' pages...I seem to recall reading somewhere this can foul up authentication... redirection from within forms with submit button
by Dirk Van.Laanen 28 Mar '02

28 Mar '02

Hello, The idea is to call a method to display an image from a certain date (eg 1796/03/11) en get the n-th (eg 5-th) image for that particular day. >From there i want to be able to page to Next and Previous, which is in effect a traversal in batches of one. This works if in the method <toondecr> I use links like these: <td align=right valign="top" width="100%"> <dtml-if next-sequence> <dtml-in expr="decrQuery(datum=(_.str(datum)))" next size=1 orphan=1 start=teller> <a href="<dtml-var URL><dtml-var sequence-query >teller=<dtml-var next-sequence-start-number>"> volgend image </a> </dtml-in> </dtml-if next-sequence> </td></tr></table> But i would like to be able to use submit buttons. The following works from a separate method (which only consists of the following): <form method="post" action=""> <input type="submit" name="x" value="> "> <dtml-if x> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('datum', _.str('1796/03/11'))"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('teller', 5)"> <input type="hidden" name="" value="<dtml-call "RESPONSE.redirect('toondecr2?datum=%s&teller=%s' % (datum, teller))">"> </dtml-if> </form> but it doesn't work from within the method <toondecr>, which is the standard method for displaying the images. Preferably the redirection would point to <toondecr> itself, but even pointing to an almost identical method <toondecr2> won't work. I get an error message: Error Type: NameError, Error Value: datum. The dtml-var <datum> nevertheless is callable even ín the form itself. For completeness sake, the essential listing apart from the Next and Previous links for the method toondecr is: <dtml-in "decrQuery(_.None, _, datum=(_.str(datum)))" size=1 start=teller> <img src="<dtml-var imagenaam>.gif"> </dtml-in> Anybody any idea? Cheers, Dirk
