ZSyncerMute not 2-way ?
by Marcio Marchini 28 Mar '02

28 Mar '02

Hi, I have 2 Zopes here: Zope 2.5 under Win2k, on port 8080 as per InstallShield Zope 2.4.x under Linux (192.168.3.200) behind Apache/PCGI as /Zope/... I installed ZSyncer and ZSyncerMute on both. I created a /Marcio on both I added a ZSyncerMute object on both, with Id syncer2w (syncer 2-way) I went to the Linux Zope and added a PHParser object to /Marcio I went to my Win2k Zope and forced a sync with http://192.168.3.200/Zope/Marcio/syncer2w , said to sync /Marcio Instead of bringing the new PHP object to my Win2k Zope, it deleted the PHP object from tho Linux Zope. So, my question is: how do I specify a 2-way sync ? I want that new objects added to either ends be propagated to the other Zope, more like a peer-to-peer fashion rather than a master/slave copy. If that is not possible with the current ZSyncerMute, I wonder how people can use this in a 1-master & N-slave copies kind of environment, while updating the same subtree on the server. I mean, if you have N developers with Zope syncing their stuff say under /Zoo against a master Zope, how do you avoid stepping on each-other's toes ? I don't want to have to split the subtrees, one for each person. I'd like to sync a Twiki across multiple servers, where one is the central one. But at least new ZWiki pages added from different PCs should be propagated to the central server and then to the other PCs when they sync. This is basically like sync'ing your PalmPilot with your desktop. New entries can be added on either end, and when sync'ed will propagate just fine. thanks !! marcio

I know you want a Zope only solution, but I might suggest that if you really want good detail, you may want to consider logging with a reverse-proxy like Squid as an HTTP accelerator, which can be configured to log the entire http request and response headers. It takes up a lot of disk space because it logs so much more, but gzip will compress these logs 20:1. Then you can filter these through a script, written in the language of your choice to output/parse/report, etc on what is being accessed, or parse the values from the log into a database after rotation and do queries on them as much as you want, etc. Sean -----Original Message----- From: Marcio Marchini [mailto:mqm@magma.ca] Sent: Wednesday, March 27, 2002 9:09 AM To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: RE: [Zope] page hits ? > You can filter out unneeded lines from Z2.log either with Squid I'd like a Zope-only solution if possible, to keep it simple to install & move around. > or by changing the configuration of the reporting tools. Is it not possible to change what gets logged ? The logs would grow slower, and I would only log what I really need. reversing a LazyMap from a Catalog
by notices name 27 Mar '02

27 Mar '02

Hi. I'm very new to all this, and I have a wierd problem with my catalog results. I have four catalogs, which I update in a batch from mysql. I find that if I query MySQL with an ORDER BY title DESC, then my catalog searches give me results in alphabetical order, which is great. Now, if my searches have no results, I'm supposed to give the user the whole contents of the catalog (thank god for batching!). I did that by setting the search terms to "" in the request, but it comes out in reverse alphabetical order. I tried to use the list reverse function, but the result seems to be a LazyMap, not a list and I can't figure out how to reverse it efficiently. I also tried request.set("sort_on","title"), but that doesn't work because it's a text index, not field. Any ideas? Thanks a lot, Annie This script piece gets the catalog results. It is called from the results page. if not(request.has_key('all')): # check to see if user wanted the whole list found = container.np.pc.pcCatalog() if len(found) > 0: return found # if there was a result return it request.set("badsearch","true") # if not, set flag for badsearch message request.set("city","") # clear search terms from request request.set("state","") request.set ("title","") return container.np.pc.pcCatalog() # this returns the whole catalog in reverse alphabetical order?? This script piece loads the urls from mysql #empty the old urls objectsToDelete = context.np.pc.objectIds('newspaper URL holder') context.np.pc.manage_delObjects(ids=objectsToDelete) #add the new id = 0 for record in container.pc.getPcUrls(): id=id+1 idstring = str(id) context.np.pc.manage_addProduct['newspaperURL'].newspaperURL.createInObjectManager(idstring, context.REQUEST) newURL = context.np.pc[idstring] newURL.manage_editCataloger('pcCatalog') newURL.propertysheets.newspaperURLProperties.manage_changeProperties(req,city=record.city,state=record.state,newspaperurl=record.web_url,deviceType='pc',naaid=record.naaid,title=record.newspaper_name) newURL.reindex_object()
