Acquisition Questions
by Douglas Perry 27 Mar '02

27 Mar '02

I'm trying to call a document in a <dtml-var> statement. The folder structure is laid out like this: www.foobar.com | |__css/ | |__images/ | |__widgets/ | |__foo/ | |__bar/ In the foo folder I'm trying to call DTML documents in the widgets folder (this folder contains template objects). If I'm in the www.foobar.com folder, I can call any object in the widgets folder by doing this: <dtml-with widgets> <dtml-var fooWidget> </dtml-with>. That works perfectly. If I'm in the "bar" folder, and use "<dtml-with widgets> <dtml-var fooWidget> </dtml-with>" or just <dtml-var fooWidget> it can't find the object. What am I doing wrong? How do I call fooWidget (in widget folder) from the "bar" folder?

Does someone know how Zope3 handles acquisition? I don't like acquisition. Would be nice if explicit acquistion would be the default. thomas

Hello! I just start off to work with DTML-stuff. I have a string like "a.b", created with <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('var1',_.string.replace(_['tree-item-url'],'/','.'))"> I want to add a folder with <dtml-call "_['var1'].manage_addFolder('testfolder','TEST')"> Is there a possibility to change the type from string to object? Kind regards, Philipp

unable to create a SAX parser under Linux
by Benjamin Buffereau 27 Mar '02

I have a problem with the Expat parser (which is the default XML SAX parser) *specific to the Linux distribution of Zope* (everything works well under Windows). It seems that contrary to the Windows distribution, the Linux distribution doesn't include Expat. I downloaded Zope-2.5.0-linux2-x86.tgz and followed the installation procedure. I created the following "useExpat2.py" external method: import sys from xml.sax import make_parser def useExpat2(): make_parser() return "Expat parser created" Then I called this external method from a DMTL method called "foo": <dtml-var useExpat2> And I get the following error: Traceback (innermost last): File /usr/LOCAL/Zope-2.5.0-linux2-x86/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 150, in publish_module File /usr/LOCAL/Zope-2.5.0-linux2-x86/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 114, in publish File /usr/LOCAL/Zope-2.5.0-linux2-x86/lib/python/Zope/__init__.py, line 158, in zpublisher_exception_hook (Object: essais) File /usr/LOCAL/Zope-2.5.0-linux2-x86/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 98, in publish File /usr/LOCAL/Zope-2.5.0-linux2-x86/lib/python/ZPublisher/mapply.py, line 88, in mapply (Object: foo) File /usr/LOCAL/Zope-2.5.0-linux2-x86/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 39, in call_object (Object: foo) File /usr/LOCAL/Zope-2.5.0-linux2-x86/lib/python/OFS/DTMLMethod.py, line 127, in __call__ (Object: foo) File /usr/LOCAL/Zope-2.5.0-linux2-x86/lib/python/DocumentTemplate/DT_String.py, line 473, in __call__ (Object: foo) File /usr/LOCAL/Zope-2.5.0-linux2-x86/lib/python/Products/ExternalMethod/ExternalMethod.py, line 202, in __call__ (Object: useExpat2) (Info: ((), {}, None)) File /usr/LOCAL/Zope-2.5.0-linux2-x86/Extensions/useExpat2.py, line 4, in useExpat2 File /usr/LOCAL/Zope-2.5.0-linux2-x86/lib/python2.1/xml/sax/__init__.py, line 88, in make_parser SAXReaderNotAvailable: (see above) Do you have the same problem? Anyone has a solution? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Benjamin. PS: there is the same problem concerning Windows vs. Linux distribution of python 2.2: expat is included in the Windows version, not the Linux one. I managed to compile my own python2.2 under Linux including the Expat module, but I failed to do the same with Zope.

Stupid Newbie ZPT question...
by Philip Kilner 27 Mar '02

27 Mar '02

Hi All, I'm playing with ZPT, and am stuck on the simplest thing - how to include another file inside my template! Imagine the navigation examples in 2.50, but with a diet sheet for each animal in a document called "diet_html" in each folder. How do I include this document in the content of the page rendered for the folder? I've experimented with "content" and "replace", and am clearly getting the syntax badly wrong... Regards, PhilK

Zope and MS Outlook
by D.Turpie＠open.ac.uk 27 Mar '02

27 Mar '02

We use Microsoft Outlook and I was wondering if anyone had any idea if it is possible to link Outlook with Zope. The idea is that we would like to build up a shared contacts list and rather than creating a new database or installing a new product such as Zope Address Book I was wondering if it was possible for Zope to access an Outlook contacts list since we use Outlook already? Thanks. David.

"real file" product
by Andrea Mennucc 27 Mar '02

27 Mar '02

hi I am preparing a web site using zope; I am quite of a newbie I would find it useful if it would be possible to store files in the real filesystem what I am thinking of is: I would like to have a class RealFile that is similar to the usual File, such that the content of the file is stored somewhere in the real filesystem or otherwise a class RealFolder that is similar to the usual Folder, such that, when a File is created into it, the content of the file is stored somewhere in the real filesystem; the reason for the above is that 1) I need to manage very large files (postscript PDF and such) and 2) I need to process these files with standard Unix tools is there any existing external method that does the job? thanks for any advice a.m. ps: please reply to me too, I am not subscribed to this list -- Andrea Mennucc "E' un mondo difficile. ZPT, DTML, SQL and Forms
by Colin Fox 26 Mar '02

26 Mar '02

Hi everyone. I'm somewhat new to Zope, so I have what may be a stupidly simple problem (probably is, actually). I want to have a site that allows adding, editing & searching of various database tables (eg. people). To keep things consistent for the user, I'd like to use one page template that has all the fields, and just call that template with an add dtml method, an edit dtml method, and a search dtml method. The part I'm having difficulty with is the connection between the ZSql and the template - specifically, I execute a SQL function to get the person's data, and I'd like to populate the template with it. To do this, I need to set the 'value' field of each input type in the form. I can set the field values in the form like this: <tr> <td><LABEL for="firstname">First name: </LABEL></td> <td><INPUT type="text" name="first_name" value="" tal:attributes="value request/form/first_name" tal:on-error="string:"> </td> </tr> This works if the form has itself as an action target. But what is the namespace for the variables returned by a ZSQL call? The column has the same name as the field (in this case, 'first_name'). How do I access the returned values from an ZSQL call? Another thing I've been wondering - I can't find the documentation on the various namespaces (here, request, etc). Where are they listed, and when should you use one over the other?
