zope with internet explorer 6--can't narrow workspace
by Joshua Newman 25 Mar '02

25 Mar '02

When I try to edit some dtml for example in the zope management interface, I can't make the frame narrower so I can't see the scroll bar on the text frame. The 'Narrower' button (and the 'Wider' one for that matter) don't work. The 'Taller' and 'Shorter' ones do. Does anyone have an idea about this? Also I think I am having a caching problem as IE 6 remembers pages a little too tenaciously. Is there a way to assure that when I visit a page it will reload it? I've already tried the Temporary Internet file settings (check for new page each time). Could it be a cookie thing? I'm a newbie and not too sure. Thanks Joshua

creating object in local dir from add form in product dir
by John Hunter 25 Mar '02

25 Mar '02

I am developing several ZClasses in a Products dir. I want managers to be able to instantiate some of the ZClasses from the /manage interface and users to be able to instantiate others from a non-manage URL. Users will access http://some.host:8080/path/to/MedBio305 where MedBio305 is an instance of my ZClass Course which has a Method index_html that allows users to view the folder. Within that index_html file, I have some links which point to the add form of a Project ZClass that I want users to be able to instantiate: <a href="/Control_Panel/Products/Course/Project_addForm>upload</a></td> My Project_addForm calls a python script add method. I want that script to instantiate a Project ZClass in /path/to/MedBio305/, but context.Project.createInObjectManager(pid,REQUEST) doesn't work because the /Control_Panel/Products/Course/ dir is the current context for this script. Can someone advise how to create the instance in the MedBio305 dir? I suspect the answer lies in using the BASEn, URLn, special variables of the REQUEST object, but don't know enough about the Zope API to work it out. Thanks, John Hunter

[Help] Setting up MySQLconnection
by Richard Wesley 25 Mar '02

25 Mar '02

I am trying to set up a mySQL DB adapter in Zope. I am somewhat of a Zope and Linux newbie so I am probably doing something dumb. Here is what I have done: - Downloaded MySQL-python-0.9.0 to the Zope install dir; - tar -xzvf MySQL-python-0.9.0.tar.gz - cd MySQL-python-0.9.0 At this point I looked at the README. It requires Python 1.5.2 or higher (I think we have 2.2) and a recent MySQL (which I believe we have). I did not edit setup.py because we are running Red Hat. I then do - python setup.py build and it chugs along until it gets to the gcc _mysql.c when it gives me an error _mysql.c: In function `_mysql__fetch_row': _mysql.c: too many arguments to function `PyTuple_Resize' This looks to me like a call to the Python API and it appears that my libraries define this differently from what the code expects. Any help gratefully appreciated. - rmgw http://www.electricfish.com/hawkfish/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Richard Wesley Electric Fish, Inc. hawkfish(a)electricfish.com "There's nothing intellectual about wandering around Italy in a big shirt, trying to get laid." - Rowan Atkinson, "Black Adder:Ink and Incapability"

Catalog Awareness
by Geoff Armstrong 25 Mar '02

25 Mar '02

Hi, I have a need to modify a Zope product so that at least one of it's classes becomes catalog aware. All the documentation I can find on catalog awareness refers to building ZClasses and giving them this feature; but the product I need to modify is built with external python code that resides in the "Products" directory. I understand though that it is possible for a product to be built which is a hybrid of Python code and ZClasses. So perhaps it is possible? Right now I'm having to use a workaround that changes the properties of a dtml document each time I need to catalog a new item of the product class concerned. I then re-catalog the same dtml document with the new properties; but this is taking to much of a toll on performance. Can anyone advise me on this? Thanks geoff

Attaching multiple file to mime
by Chris A. Bruce 25 Mar '02

25 Mar '02

I saw Dieter's bogus answer to attaching multiple files in mime method, but have no clue how that answers anything? http://groups.yahoo.com/group/zope/message/82157 Anyhow, has anybody got any working example of how to send all of the files in a folder as attachments using sendmail and mime? Thanks in advance, Chris

RE: [Zope] HomeSite 5 and Zope
by Schmidt, Allen J. 25 Mar '02

25 Mar '02

Where are you seeing this problem? If you mean you can't "see" the files themselves, then just right-click in the contents pane and select VIEW (I think) and select ALL FILES...it defaults to only showing Web Documents. Been using HS for years and with Zope for about 2 years and it ROCKS! And now version 5 allows search and replace on FTP files and folders...Fantastic! I have also added .dtml as an extension within the settings but don't think that was necessary. I have my own Zope toolbars so I can single-click all my favorite functions just a click away. I would be glad to offer any help in using HS for working with Zope. ALMOST completely eliminates the use of the ZMI for working with Zope. Have fun! Allen -----Original Message----- From: hpinson(a)indepthl.com [mailto:hpinson@indepthl.com] Sent: Friday, March 22, 2002 7:56 PM To: jchen(a)nautilus.org Cc: zope(a)zope.org Subject: Re: [Zope] HomeSite 5 and Zope There is a howto at: http://www.zope.org/Members/cybertad/how_to/homesite Basically, go the Allaire (Macromedia) FTP & RDS, right click on the world icon and add an FTP server ip or domain name, which is your Zope. Here you would add the ftp port (8021 by default; see you z2.py) user name and password (that you have created as a Zope acl_user account. The limit, which I have never seen a solution to, is how to get HomeSite to see zope objects with no extensions. Adding .htm to each zope object you want to edit will do the trick for allowing edits, but there are some negative scripting implications for doing that. I'm looking forward to Macromedia fixing this someday in Dreamweaver and Homesite. No idea if they will. It does not seem to be a priority for them. Have you tried UltraEdit or the newest version of Textpad. I have yet to see if these programs have the above limitations. Using FTP to connect to Zope server from (g)VIM
by Phil Harris 25 Mar '02

25 Mar '02

Hi all, My intellect was piqued recently by a discussion on the list about editors for Zope etc. I remember some people saynig that VIM was good, to which my response was, 'Yeah but there's no FTP built in'. Someone then responded with a few scripts to do it. Well I thought they were a bit cumbersome, so I wrote my own. ftpopen.py and ftpsave.py. If you have a VIM executable with Python support built in then these run from within VIM and allow you to open/save file from/to Zope seamlessly. (I have them on a menu in GVIM for instance) I'll put the files up on my Zope Members bit (http://www.zope.org/Members/philh) along with a few instructions. If anybody can think of any enhancements then please let me know and I'll see if I can work them in. I hope these will be useful to someone. See ya Phil phil.harris(a)zope.co.uk

Transient Object Container/Session Data Manager
by Michael Fox 25 Mar '02

25 Mar '02

Hi *, Does anyone know of any documentation for use of these objects with Zope 2.5.x? I'm having issues with sessions timing out, and need some way of redirecting the user once their session has timed out. in DTML, testing if "REQUEST.SESSION" exists doesn't quiet work... resulting in a KeyError. Regards, Michael
