ZSQL Errors
by Colin Fox 21 Mar '02

21 Mar '02

I'm developing a zope app that uses an external database (Postgres) for its back end. It works great when it's working, but if there's an error, I don't know how to print the error message. I can't find any documentation on how to get the sql error that was generated by the database. That makes debugging very time consuming. The only example I could find just uses a generic dtml exception handler, which doesn't print the error string. Does anyone have any docs/examples on this? KebasData floods undo log
by Marcus Schopen 20 Mar '02

20 Mar '02

Hi, installed Kebas Data 0.5 and created the example "Zope News" on "http://www.zope.org/Members/kedai/KebasData/useKebasData". problem: every request to <dtml-var "zopenews.view()"> produces an entry in Zope's undo log Any idea? change ClassID of instances
by Marcus Schopen 20 Mar '02

20 Mar '02

Hi, is there a possibility to change the ClassID of any instance of one Class? I have broken instances in my ZOPE. The Product is installed, but the instances are imported form another ZOPE. On the other ZOPE this Class/Product seems to have another ClassID, so its imported instances are broken. Log says: PROBLEM(100) ZODB Could not import class 'HTMLDocument' from module '*WU8K7Rxn7QpPWRZ0rVuizg==' [ this is the Class ID on the other ZOPE ] The ClassID on my ZOPE: 'HTMLDocument' from module 'Products.HTMLDocument.HTMLDocument' Background: I'd like to change from wrapper-HTMLDocument ( http://www.zope.org/Members/unfo/howto_wrapper ) to the other HTMLDocument project ( http://www.zope.org/Members/sf/HTMLDocument ). So I installed the HTMLDocument on a new Zope, made an export of all wrapper-HTMLDocument form the old ZOPE and imported this export to the new Zope. But in the new Zope all instances are broken, because this internal module ID. Any idea? Bye Marcus

Problem calling ZPT on Object(s)
by Christoph Roth 20 Mar '02

20 Mar '02

Hello, I'm desperately looking for a hint to solve the following problem: I have an object "myobj" with a few properties and a Zope Page Template "mytemplate" for displaying the object's content. How can I call the template on the object WHITHOUT putting the template's name into the URL? I mean saying "http://myhost/myobj" should be enough to have the object processed by the template. I tried something out with an object based upon a DTML-Document calling the template via DTML so that the template in turn could read the object's id out of the request. This worked somehow but seems complicated to me and not very stable. I feel that there must be an easier way. Can anybody help? Unfortunately I am still quite a beginner... Greetings, Christoph Roth

zpt weirdness?
by Luca Olivetti 20 Mar '02

20 Mar '02

Hi, I'm using mxmRelations (no, the problem isn't with that product) so I can track relations between various objects (companies, proposals, projects). I defined some macros in zpt in order to, e.g., show a table of all proposals in the proposals folder and reuse that macro to show all proposals related to a company when I'm showing the company. Inside the tabular data for each proposal I show the company id and a link: e.g.: ("item" is the loop variable and is my object for proposal, and has ha method "getClient" which wraps an mxmRelation and returns an object, the company, or None) <td tal:define="client item/getClient"> <a href="somewhere" tal:attributes="href client/absolute_url" tal:content="client/id">Client</a> not defined </td> All was working fine while I was using the macro inside the "proposals" folder, but when I tried to use it inside a company I got a recursion depth error. It turns out that I didn't assimilate yet all the documentation ;-) and, after many desperate attempts to understand what was going wrong, I realized that path expressions will render the content of the page, so obviously inside the company trying to render the same company would cause a recursion error. At first I changed the tal:define="client item/getClient" with tal:define="client python:item.getClient()" but that gave the same error. So I changed the tal:define="client item/getClient" to tal:define="client nocall:item/getClient" This solved the recursion problem but now I could not use "client/id" and "client/absolute_url" (and permutations like "python:client.getId()" and "python:client.absolute_url()"). I solved my problem by defining two more methods in my class (getClientId and getClientUrl). I'm not satisfied with this solution and I still don't understand why I could access attributes and methods of a rendered page and could not do that with the raw object. Besides, even if it's not causing a recursion depth exception, there are other sites where I'm using similar macros and I don't like the idea of causing a page to render just to show the id and a link. [NEWBIE] Unambiguous expressions in Z SQL methods
by Biju Chacko 20 Mar '02

20 Mar '02

Hi, I have a legacy database which uses an internal convention of naming the primary key of a table as 'code'. When executing queries which include joins, it is necessary to add a table name prefix in order to make them unambiguous. For example: SELECT foo.*, bar.desc FROM foo INNER JOIN bar ON foo.bar = bar.code WHERE foo.code = some_value I created a Z SQL Method called listFoo thus: -8<------ Parameter: foo.code SELECT foo.*, bar.desc FROM foo INNER JOIN bar ON foo.bar = bar.code <dtml-sqlgroup where> <dtml-sqltest foo.code op="eq" type="int"> </dtml-sqlgroup> -8<------- This works fine when I test it. However, I'm having a bit of trouble calling from my dtml document. I'm trying to use a line like: <dtml-in expr="listFoo(foo.code=code)"> which bombs (naturally). So how do I go about this? I'm sorry if this is a FAQ, I'm a Zope newbie -- I've been using it precisely 5 days. SecurityGetUser object as text
by Bryan C. Andregg 20 Mar '02

20 Mar '02

I have the following Extention def cryptPass(self, username, password): import crypt return crypt.crypt(password,username[:2]) When I call this with, cryptPass(_.SecurityGetUser(),'some pass phrase') Zope returns an error because it cannot perform a slice on the object that SecurityGetUser() returns. Is there a way to just get the text value of that object? -- Bryan C. Andregg Duke University Medical Center Programmer Dept. of Anesthesiology e <bryan.andregg(a)duke.edu> p +1 919 684 6201
