More Session errors (now with 2.5.0)
by Tim Hicks 08 Mar '02

Chris/List, further to my last post ( http://zope.nipltd.com/public/lists/zope-archive.nsf/ByKey/31062F4798B21631 )about experiencing problems with CST under 2.3.3, I now have a bit more information. Unfortunately, I don't anticipate it will be very helpful in diagnosing the problem :-(. So, the new setup is: - winNT4 - zope250 - DCO2 - built-in session machinery from zope250 (i.e. not CST anymore) - using the same site (exported from zope233 then imported to 250) as before The site is under considerably less load now, so errors are few an far between, but they *are* happening (I'm fairly certain this is not a load issue now). Here's a sample traceback... Traceback (innermost last): File C:\PROGRA~1\zope250\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 98, in publish File C:\PROGRA~1\zope250\lib\python\ZPublisher\mapply.py, line 88, in mapply (Object: details) File C:\PROGRA~1\zope250\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 39, in call_object (Object: details) File C:\PROGRA~1\zope250\lib\python\OFS\DTMLDocument.py, line 127, in __call__ (Object: details) File C:\PROGRA~1\zope250\lib\python\DocumentTemplate\DT_String.py, line 473, in __call__ (Object: details) File C:\PROGRA~1\zope250\lib\python\DocumentTemplate\DT_Util.py, line 159, in eval (Object: sdm.getSessionData().has_key('your_results')) (Info: sdm) File <string>, line 2, in f File C:\PROGRA~1\zope250\lib\python\Products\Sessions\SessionDataManager.py, line 91, in getSessionData (Object: sdm) File C:\PROGRA~1\zope250\lib\python\Products\Sessions\SessionDataManager.py, line 174, in _getSessionDataObject (Object: sdm) File C:\PROGRA~1\zope250\lib\python\Products\Transience\Transience.py, line 133, in new_or_existing (Object: session_data) File C:\PROGRA~1\zope250\lib\python\Products\Transience\Transience.py, line 159, in new (Object: session_data) KeyError: duplicate key 30923427A0M9AWdSVF0 Although obviously different than before (due to the different session machinery), it sounds like a pretty similar issue (i.e. the session machinery is getting a bit mixed up with session keys - although before it seemed that it was losing keys, it now seems like it's duplicating them). As for your other suggestions last time, I'm afraid we haven't got round to using 'ab' against the site. Neither have we tried "Sessions.stresstests.stresstestMultiThread.py", although now we are using the 250 session stuff, this should be fairly easy right? I'll look into this next, but I won't have much spare time for the next 2 weeks. Other interesting facts are: We appear to have a memory leak: This was present under zope233 as well, but we didn't spot it at the time. Do you or anyone else have a good suggestion for tracking this problem down? I am next to clueless in ways to do this :-(. Could it possibly be my web code? Could it be related to the flakey sessioning? <I presume the answer to both is 'Yes', but it's difficult to say either way> We see periodic zodb conflicts: I can't tell you much more than that until they happen again (we lost that particular log). The confusing thing is, I don't think there are any parts of the site that actually allow people to modify objects in the zodb. People can update an oracle database, and obviously they can query it as well, but that's about it. So what is trying to write to the zodb? The only thing I can think of is the session machinery, which I why I mention it. Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings. cheers tim

Zope is hanging repeatedly
by Granzow, Doug (NCI) 08 Mar '02

08 Mar '02

I am having problems with a Zope installation hanging after running for several minutes or hours. This started a couple of days ago after Zope had been running fine for the past few months. Here are the details of the installation: - Zope 2.3.1 (old, but what I'm stuck with for now) - Solaris 7 - Apache 1.3.19 with several virtual hosts - the virtual hosts that connect to Zope are using mod_rewrite, some are like this: RewriteRule ^/(.*) /usr/local/apache/cgi-bin/Zope.cgi/$1 [e=HTTP_CGI_AUTHORIZATION:%1,t=application/x-httpd-cgi,l] [PT] ...while others are like this: RewriteRule ^/(.*) http://virtualhostname.com:8080/$1 [P] (We are not using Virtual Host Monster -- just found out about that yesterday) When Zope hangs I notice that there are a lot of Zope.cgi processes running on the system. I am not sure, though, if Zope is hanging because of the Zope.cgi processes, or if the Zope.cgi processes are hanging because of Zope hanging. One thing that concerns me is the size of our Data.fs file: -rw-r--r-- 1 zope nobody 702930743 Mar 7 23:37 Data.fs I know this needs to be packed, and I know the large size causes Zope to take a long time to start up. I don't have reason to believe that it is causing Zope to hang, however. When Zope hangs, the load average on the machine does not go up, Zope does not take excessive CPU. It seems to be just sleeping, perhaps waiting for something external to happen. The only solution I have found has been to restart it, which only helps temporarily. We initially suspected search bots were hitting the site and overloading it (we were seeing connections from googlebot.com) We configured Apache yesterday to reject those connections, but Zope still had problems last night. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated! Thanks, Doug

porting a brilliant cms to a superior platform
by Myles Byrne 08 Mar '02

08 Mar '02

I am a zope hobbyist, and have been using it for a while on a few projects but am still getting to grips with it. Recently I had to evaluate a stable, open-source, total content management and e-commerce solution for use as a commercial site. As I am not yet experienced enough to implement this kind of solution I went looking for something that was easy to use, functional, stable and open source. A big ask - and in the back of my mind I thought I'd have to start looking at commercial products - but then lo and behold I came across: eZpublish from eZ Systems (www.ez.no) It's absolutely brilliant, it handles article management with comments, forums, link management, photo gallerys, user management, caching etc. AND e-commerce (shopping carts, wishlists and ordering). It also supports windows, mac-os and linux (gtk i think) GUI clients for updating the site. It written in PHP4 and runs on apache and mysql and the code looks pretty complicated (although I don't really know PHP that well). My question is: Whould anyone be interested in porting this system (or consolodating and pollishing existing zope products) to create a simliar zope solution? All the advantages of zope object oriented nature and security could be utilised to create an absolutely killer app that could install from one single file, run on multiple operating systems, and maintained by even the biggest newbies. Also the existing documentation and even the GUI clients could be utilised if the systems were kept similar enough. Just something to think about. I admire the work of all the zope developers and just want say a big 'thank you' for all the work they've done. [Fwd: Re: [Zope] [Newbie] Making my own authentication form - HOW
by Antonio Beamud Montero 08 Mar '02

08 Mar '02

I will describe how I solved "making my own authentication form" :-) Well my product is based in folders, and I need when create a instance of my product automagically create a user folder, a cookie mecanism and the login forms, but I don't want to touch the cookie crumbler login forms... I will do that: from Products.CookieCrumbler.CookieCrumbler import CookieCrumbler, manage_addCC class MyProduct(Folder): ..... def create_user_logins(self): """ Create the user login forms, etc...""" # Create the built-in user folder self.manage_addUserFolder() # create the Cookie Crumbler product instance, by default it # doesn't create login forms manage_addCC(self,'Cookies') # Example. How to create a user from an external method self.acl_users.userFolderAddUser('exuser','exuser',['Manager'],'') # Create our login forms self.create_login_forms() def create_login_forms(): addDTML(self, 'login_form','Pantalla de acceso', 'dtml/login_form') addDTML(self, 'logged_in', 'Pantalla de inicio', 'dtml/logged_in') addDTML(self, 'logged_out', 'Pantalla de salida','dtml/logged_out') #Piece of code from Squishdot :-) file_path=Globals.package_home(globals()) def addDTML(obj, id, title, file): f = open(file_path + '/' + file + '.dtml') file = f.read() f.close() obj.manage_addDTMLMethod(id, title, file) return getattr(obj, id) Inside my dtml directory I have three methods: login_form, logged_in, logged_out, in this moment are the login forms that comes with Cookie Crumbler product, but you can put all that you want... I hope that this howto help you... -- Microsoft merges technologoies: Windows CE + Windows ME + Windows NT = Windows CEMENT ---- Antonio Beamud Montero Agora Systems S.A. http://www.agoratechnologies.com

Re: [Zope] zope as win32 service and stupid_log_file
by Echlin, Michael 08 Mar '02

08 Mar '02

I am not sure if this applies or not but here goes. On a WIN NT server I wanted to get zope running with another program on the same server that also required python. Problem is it needed a different version of python that had been hacked and wouldn't work with Zope. It also set up some environment variables that zope couldn't live with. So I installed zope as an app and used srvany (part of the windows NT resource kit) to serve cmd calling a cmd file that set the variables to values zope could live with and then called zopes start.bat It is installed as an app and runs as a service in it's own virtual machine. Creating a environment variable does not help. I can understand that because this would result in a conflict when running two versions of zope on the same machine. So there would have to be a environment variable that is bound to a specific service. zope 2.4.3. python 2.1.
