Apache ProxyPass + Zope == bad?
by Zachery Bir 08 Mar '02

Just a word. Don't know if it's been brought up before, but mod_proxy, using the details on zope.org ( even though outdated ) like this: NameVirtualHost 192.192.123.234 <VirtualHost 192.192.123.234> ServerName www.fightclub.org ServerAdmin tyler(a)fightclub.org ProxyPass / http://zserver.xyz.com:9180/fightclub/ ProxyPassReverse / http://zserver.xyz.com:9180/fightclub/ ProxyPass /misc_ http://zserver.xyz.com:9180/misc_ ProxyPass /p_ http://zserver.xyz.com:9180/p_ </VirtualHost> Will open up your server to be a Proxy server on the net. I've found that this isn't the case with mod_rewrite and VirtualHostMonster. Searching for "ProxyPass" on zope.org brings up a lot of documents, some that are fairly new. Is this a known thing? First we found out was by looking at the log files of one of our servers and found tons of 'GET http://some.other.domain.com/path/to/porn HTTP/1.0' lines... Now that we cleared it up with mod_rewrite, I'm wondering what the porn surfers are thinking when the hit this site all the time now :) Zac

No, its not an ActiveX component; it is a feature (or MS-specific hack-over-headers) that has been built-into IE for a while, and used primarily for intranet sites built using IIS. The server has to explicitly tell the browser that it will accept NTLM authentication sent via HTTP headers. See my previous message for more details. I agree, this is a security risk, and somewhat pointless when you consider that browsers have 'save-a-password' features for Basic Auth anyway...Then again, perhaps that is as much as a security risk. If you are really paranoid, you will implement cookie-based auth (not basic or NTLM) with server-based timeout/expirations of credentials associated with a session cookie, since not everyone locks their workstation when they leave their desk... No doubt there's some ActiveX component which runs only on IE v >=6.0004 that will do this, and, yes, no doubt it's a security risk. ;-) -- Joel BURTON | joel(a)joelburton.com | joelburton.com | aim: wjoelburton Independent Knowledge Management Consultant _______________________________________________ Zope maillist - Zope(a)zope.org http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope ** No cross posts or HTML encoding! ** (Related lists - http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-announce http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev )

XUF running on a Unix or NT box will do SMB auth off any NT box in a domain, but can't do anything as nice as map Domain groups to roles, and dive users in those groups certain roles, etc. This is a limitation of the client library. The only reasonable workaround if your Zope box runs Unix is likely something like LDAP (if your network supports it) as a bridge to your NT Domain info; though if your Zope instance runs on an NT box I think there are some tools to allow you to do NT Authentication and also Authorization (map users to roles somehow). I can say, however, that the XUF SMB Authentication works just fine, and is easy to set up, provided all you are looking for is Authentication. The magic IE-specific NTLM-over-HTTP auth mechanism could work, provided you hacked it into ZServer, becuase it requires a specifc sequence of HTTP responses and headers... I've never used this, but found some info at: http://www.innovation.ch/java/ntlm.html Sean -----Original Message----- From: Andy McKay [mailto:andy@agmweb.ca] Sent: Friday, March 08, 2002 7:55 AM To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: Re: [Zope] Auto-Login from MS Domain Doesn't XUF have some way of auth'ing from a Windows domain? Product Devel: How can I use a function for manage_addMyProductForm?
by jkinsley 08 Mar '02

08 Mar '02

Hi, I am developing a product and I want to be able to conduct some tests before presenting the add product form so that the results of the test are available in the form. I tried: def manage_addMyProductForm(client, REQUEST. *args, **kw): """Perform tests and display add form.""" if test1: passed_test1=1 else: passed_test1=0 if not test2: passed_test2=1 else: passed_test2=0 form=PageTemplateFile('forms/manage_addMyProductForm.zpt', globals(), __name__='addMyProductFormPT') return form(client, REQUEST, args=args, pass_test1=pass_test1, pass_test2=pass_test2) The problem with this is the call to form() produces an AttributeError on 'other in Shared.DC.Scripts.Bindings._getTraverseSubpath() when REQUEST.other.get('TraverseSubpath') is called. I get the impression I am missing an argument in the call to form(). Thanks in advance Regards, Jarrod Kinsley BTI Communications Co.

Auto-Login from MS Domain

Hi All, Does anyone have any idea how I could get a browser to provide authentication credentials (either basic auth or cookie auth) from the user's Network Login? This is on Windoze, although I'm not sure of the specifics. What are the options? cheers, Chris

Hi, im a newbee with ZOPE and with this mailing list trying to do the GUEST BOOK example thats on this page: http://www.zope.org/Members/michel/ZB/SimpleExamples.dtml At the end of the example theres a pytho script thats needed to finally make the GuestBook example work, so when i copy it from the page, and paste it on zope (creating a python script) , sope says that thescript has errors.... Im not familiar with python, so if anyone could help, ill apreciate it. Thanks Heres the python script copied from the page above: ## Script (Python) "addEntry" ##parameters=guest_name, comments ## """ Create a guest book entry. """ # create a unique document id id='entry_%d' % len(context.objectIds()) # create the document context.manage_addProduct['OFSP'].manage_addDTMLDocument(id, title="", file=comments) # add a guest_name string property doc=getattr(context, id) doc.manage_addProperty('guest_name', guest_name, 'string') PD.- T H A N K S ________________________________ La información contenida en este correo electrónico es legalmente privada y confidencial. dtml-in syntax

zAllProjRoles is a zsqlmethod that returns as one of it's fields Projteamid. I can get a value if I use <dtml-var Projteamid> within the loop. ProjTeamPhones takes an argument called Projteamid. It should return all the phone numbers for this id number. But this code gives me a 'Bad Request Error' on 'Projteamid'. How can I pass the correct value? <snip> <dtml-in zAllProjRoles> <table bgcolor="<dtml-var color2>" width=800 cellspacing=0 cellpadding=5 border=0> ,,<snip>.. <dtml-var ContempContactName> </td> <td align="left"> <dtml-in ProjTeamPhones> <dtml-var PhoneNumber><br> </dtml-in> </td> </tr> </dtml-in>
