Problem?? ZServer Monitor Server doesn't start
by addyd＠unk.edu 06 Mar '02

06 Mar '02

After having problems keeping 2.5.1b1 up I deleted the folder and installed 2.3.3. After running the ./start script I get the ZServer starting on port 8080 message, and the ZServer FTP Server starting on port 8021 message, and the ZServer PCGI Server starting with Unix socket message. Following that I SHOULD see: ----- 2002-03-05T15:03:33 INFO(0) ZServer Monitor Server (V1.5) started on port 8099 (and I'm assuming, a return to the command line. Instead it seems to hang there.) Zope is running, as I am able to see the management screen, etc. Is this a problem? If so, is there a way to track down the source of problem and fix it? zope as win32 service and stupid_log_file
by Cornelis J. de Brabander 06 Mar '02

06 Mar '02

Did anybody succeed in activating that STUPID_LOG_FILE when running zope as a win nt service? Creating a environment variable does not help. I can understand that because this would result in a conflict when running two versions of zope on the same machine. So there would have to be a environment variable that is bound to a specific service. zope 2.4.3. python 2.1. NT Service doesn't respond on stop request
by Mark Snellings 06 Mar '02

06 Mar '02

I have Zope 2.4.2 running as service on Windows 2000. The service starts okay, but when I stop it from the Management Console, the service stops and then about a minute later I get the message "Could not stop the Zope (WebSite) service on Local Computer. Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion." If I enter the "NET STOP WebSite" command from a command window, the service stops and the command completes without any error messages in about 20 seconds. Any idea why I'm getting the error message when stopping the service from the Management Console? Thanks Mark Snellings

renamed gadfly DA, ZSQL Method shows new name, when called looks up old name
by hans 06 Mar '02

06 Mar '02

On Zope 2.3.2 created gadfly DA, then created a ZSQL Method, then renamed my Gadfly DA. In ZSQL Method Zope shows me the new name as connection id, but when i call it (programmatically), Zope complains The database connection old_name cannot be found. ? Is this a bug or a feature, and why so? furthermore, whenever i looked into the Gadfly DA/Properties, zope showed me "demo" as data source (alphabetically first), although the DA takes *my* database as data source. Very misleading. ? Is that known and is there a higher version where this is fixed? -- ------------------------------------------------------------- Who's got only a hammer sees the world as a nail hans augustin (software developer) hans(a)beehive.de beehive elektronische medien GmbH http://www.beehive.de phone: +49 30 847-82 0 fax: +49 30 847-82 299

Adding CookieUserFolder Programmatically
by Zahid Malik 06 Mar '02

06 Mar '02

Hope someone can help: I'm trying to add a CookieUserFolder programmatically either with dtml or python and I'm no expert! I'm using Zope 2.5.1b1. After looking through all the source for CUF I still can't create a CUF. Just for testing I've created an external method which does this: from Products.CookieUserFolder.CookieUserFolder import manage_addCookieUserFolder def zcreate( self ): manage_addCookieUserFolder( self ) This does do something but unfortunately it locks me out of the folder that I create a CUF into and therefore I can't tell what happened. Also I don't know how to add/edit/delete CUF users in python or dtml which I really need to do. Any help very very gratefully received. Z_REALM Problems
by abg＠comco-inc.com 06 Mar '02

06 Mar '02

I'm setting Zope up on a new server running WindowsNT. When I change the Z_REALM environment variable, nothing happens. Zope ignores it completely. Yes, I've rebooted. I've set up several Zopes, and never before had this problem (though, my previous experience is with Win2000). Has anyone else encountered this? Any fixes? Here's my Zope info: Zope Version (Zope 2.4.3 (binary release, python 2.1, win32-x86), python 2.1.0, win32) Python Version 2.1 (#15, Apr 16 2001, 18:25:49) [MSC 32 bit (Intel)] System Platform win32 Thanks, Aaron Gillette abg(a)comco-inc.com

Upgrade to 2.5.0 breaks site: TypeError: object of type 'string' is not callable
by Gregor Hoffleit 06 Mar '02

06 Mar '02

I'm running into strange trouble with one site when I try to upgrade it from Zope 2.4 to 2.5.0. With 2.4 (up to 2.4.4b1), the site works fine. Now when I upgrade Zope to 2.5.0 (or 2.5.1b1), I get an "TypeError: object of type 'string' is not callable" whenever I try to access the site (see below). Furthermore, running the Data.fs ZODB with 2.5.x once seems to corrupt it! I.e. when I move back the Data.fs to 2.4.4b1 (where it had worked before), it suddenly fails with the same error! This is the error message: Site Error An error was encountered while publishing this resource. TypeError Sorry, a site error occurred. Traceback (innermost last): File /tmp/z/Zope-2.5.1b1-src/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 150, in publish_module File /tmp/z/Zope-2.5.1b1-src/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 114, in publish File /tmp/z/Zope-2.5.1b1-src/lib/python/Zope/__init__.py, line 159, in zpublisher_exception_hook (Object: MyOwnSite) File /tmp/z/Zope-2.5.1b1-src/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 89, in publish File /tmp/z/Zope-2.5.1b1-src/lib/python/ZPublisher/BaseRequest.py, line 247, in traverse File /tmp/z/Zope-2.5.1b1-src/lib/python/ZPublisher/BeforeTraverse.py, line 99, in __call__ TypeError: object of type 'string' is not callable The output is the same for any path I try. The ZMI (http://localhost:8080/manage) also fails with this error. The output of starting Zope (see below) doesn't show anything suspicious. I have no idea what could cause this problem, and how I could try to track down the problem. Below I attach the output of starting Zope in debug mode. SOLVED: Why my Zope kept dying...
by addyd＠unk.edu 06 Mar '02

06 Mar '02

In the spirit of sharing knowledge rather than just asking questions... : ) I thought I would pass along what APPEARS to be the solution to my problem of Zope dying . After reading the "Gotchas for Zope Beginners" HowTo: http://www.zope.org/Members/jens/docs/newbie_caveats it sounded like this paragraph applied: "If you cannot log out after starting Zope using the "start" script in the Zope install directory without bringing down Zope you might want to edit the start script and remove the "-D" option in it. "-D" stands for debug, the process won't automatically detach from the terminal it was started on when -D is specified." This sounded like what I was experiencing. As long as I left the terminal window open, it seemed to run find, but if I closed the connection or tried running another command it would quit. So I took a look at the Start script and it was indeed setting the "-D" option in the last line of the script. I removed the last line, restarted Zope and it has been up since. This leads me to believe that my 2.5.1b1 problem may have been the same thing. I may reinstall it just to see. But I will stick with 2.3.3 as my "production Zope server" for now because I MUST use the Virtual Host Monster and the #Zope IRC channel tells me that VHM has some problems with 2.5 .
