RE: [Zope] Z_REALM Problems
by abg＠comco-inc.com 06 Mar '02

Solved it. Supposedly, User Environment Variables take precedence over System Variables in WindowsNT, but this doesn't appear to be the case, in practice. Here's how to add the Z_REALM system variable: <WARNING> Modifying the registry can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. I can't guarantee that problems resulting from modifications to the registry can be solved. Use at your own risk. </WARNING> 1) Open REGEDT32.EXE 2) Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment 3) Add the value Z_REALM:REG_SZ:MyRealmName 4) Reboot Your Realm should now be changed. At 10:35 a.m. 06/03/2002, you wrote: >Yes, but only for a special set of tables. And in your errormessage >stood "Transactions not supported for this kind of table" (or something >like this ...) Did you tried MySQL with InnoDB or BDB (I guess they call it MySQL-Max)? As far as I can tell this configuration provides you with transactions to all kind of user tables. There's still a non-transactional MySQL version. Nicolas.-

Managing security of DTML manage_changeProperties and DTML API
by Milos Prudek 06 Mar '02

06 Mar '02

Is it insecure to allow Manage properties to Anonymous? My site does not allow Anonymous to Access management screens, Add DTML documents, DTML Methods and Python scripts. So there is no way to slip in executable content. It does allow Authenticated users to create documents, but in ZClass form, and ZClass instances only have properties so they should not be executable. But it gives Manage properties to Anonymous. Because for some ZClass documents the site records number of readers. So the ZClass' index_html has propertysheets.data.manage_changeProperties(readers=readers+1)). Is it possible to call DTML API through a URL? Like http://www.site.com/folder/instance1/propertysheets/data/manage_changePrope… If it is, I'm hosed :-) Would it be more secure to disallow Manage properties to Anonymous, remove the manage_changeProperties line from ZClass' index_html, put it in a single line DTML_Method and give that DTML_Method a Manager Proxy role? (I'd prefer to not give Manager proxy role to ZClass' index_html) -- Milos Prudek

The following is python code for a generic folderish object. This is my first attempt so there are bound to be errors. This code works. The only thing is that in the id does not show up in the menu. What is wrong ? [Image] import blah blah manage_addSeqForm=DTMLFile('dtml/addSeqForm',globals()) def manage_addSeq(self,id,title,REQUEST=None): """docstring""" id=str(id) title=str(title) c=Seq(id, title) self._setObject(id, c) if REQUEST is not None: return self.manage_main(self, REQUEST,update_menu=1) class Seq(Acquisition.Implicit, Override.ObjectManager, Persistent, PropertyManager.PropertyManager, AccessControl.Role.RoleManager, SimpleItem.Item,): """docstring""" meta_type='Seq' manage_options=( ( ) +Override.ObjectManager.manage_options +PropertyManager.PropertyManager.manage_options +AccessControl.Role.RoleManager.manage_options +SimpleItem.Item.manage_options ) def __init__(self,id,title): """docstring""" self.id = id self.title = title Weird Huh ? RE: Page Templates problem
by Agata Cruickshank 06 Mar '02

Indeed, I was using Explorer 5.0, and I cannot reproduce the error in version 5.5. I've managed to narrow down the error to the ptAdd.zpt and ptEdit.zpt in Products/PageTemplates/www directory. It appears that Explorer 5 objects to 'tal:replace="structure here/manage_page_header"' and '<h1 tal:replace="structure here/manage_page_footer">Footer</h1>'. I can replace it with <dtml-var manage_page_header> and <dtml-var manage_page_footer> and get the add page to work. Unfortunately, I don't know how to replace 'tal:define="body request/other/text | request/form/text | here/read"' in edit page (here/read raises an error) and anyway it is probably not a good idea to alter these files. I'll just upgrade my browser and hope that everyone else working with Zope here will be willing to do the same. Many thanks for your help. It is horribly buggy and is known to have problems with the Zope Mgmt Interface. If you must use IE, try 5.5. But Opera is really very nice. Wade Leftwich Ithaca, NY

Unauthorized users can writelock helpfiles in /Control_Panel/Products
by Ivo van der Wijk 06 Mar '02

Hi all, We run Freezope.org, a site where people can get their own folder with Manager/Owner access. Of course, users should not be able to mess up things outside their own folder. However, they can. The problem seems to be with the helpfiles included with the installed products. For some reason, these are sometimes/always changed (as in: writable, modified) when accessed. This often gives us (harmless?) log entries such as: 2002-03-06T03:48:56 INFO(0) Z2 CONFLICT Competing writes at, /HelpSys/menu Traceback (innermost last): File /usr/local/zope/Zope-2.4.4b1-src/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 171, in publish File /usr/local/zope/Zope-2.4.4b1-src/lib/python/ZPublisher/mapply.py, line 160, in mapply (Object: menu) File /usr/local/zope/Zope-2.4.4b1-src/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 112, in call_object (Object: menu) File /usr/local/zope/Zope-2.4.4b1-src/lib/python/Shared/DC/Scripts/Bindings.py, line 324, in __call__ (Object: menu) File /usr/local/zope/Zope-2.4.4b1-src/lib/python/Shared/DC/Scripts/Bindings.py, line 354, in _bindAndExec (Object: menu) File /usr/local/zope/Zope-2.4.4b1-src/lib/python/App/special_dtml.py, line 244, in _exec (Object: menu) File /usr/local/zope/Zope-2.4.4b1-src/lib/python/TreeDisplay/TreeTag.py, line 159, in render (Object: a tree tag) File /usr/local/zope/Zope-2.4.4b1-src/lib/python/TreeDisplay/TreeTag.py, line 269, in tpRender (Object: HelpSys) File /usr/local/zope/Zope-2.4.4b1-src/lib/python/TreeDisplay/TreeTag.py, line 523, in tpRenderTABLE (Object: HelpSys) (Info: (['Tm9uZQ==', []], {'childless_decoration': '', 'id': 'tpId', 'branches': 'tpValues', 'url': 'tpURL'}, (['Tm9uZQ==', []],), (['Tm9uZQ==', []],))) File /usr/local/zope/Zope-2.4.4b1-src/lib/python/TreeDisplay/TreeTag.py, line 323, in tpRenderTABLE File /usr/local/zope/Zope-2.4.4b1-src/lib/python/HelpSys/HelpSys.py, line 228, in tpValues File /usr/local/zope/Zope-2.4.4b1-src/lib/python/HelpSys/HelpSys.py, line 331, in tpValues (Object: Help) File /usr/local/zope/Zope-2.4.4b1-src/lib/python/ZODB/Connection.py, line 535, in setstate ConflictError: ("'\\x00\\x00\\x00\\x00\\x00\\x0f{\\xee'", '<extension class HelpSys.HelpTopic.STXTopic at 85934e8>') --- end of trace --- However, if one of the freezope users creates a version, starts working in this version, and then consults any of the help pages for the installed products, this page will be write-locked, and unaccessible for all other users. Help with RewriteRule?
by addyd＠unk.edu 06 Mar '02

06 Mar '02

I'm not very comfortable with RewriteRules and can't find my exact set of circumstances described anywhere. I'm working mainly with the Quickie Apache + Zope setup using VHM found at: http://www.zope.org/Members/Jace/apache-vhm and Chapter 10 of the at: http://www.zopeonarope.com/ch8-10available (thanks Steve!) Would someone please help me with the RewriteRules(s) I need for the following: The linux server I have installed Zope (2.3.3) on has Apache running all static content with LOTS of virtual hosts. I need Zope content for only ONE of the virtual hosts (www.myvirtualhost.com) and I would like Zope proxied only if "/marketplace" is the first directory in the path. (www.myvirtualhost.com/marketplace should return the index_html object in Zope's /Marketplace folder). All other URLs for www.myvirtualhost.com should still be static content from apache. I have installed a Virtual Host Monster in the Zope root. I believe that it should look like the following (all on one line): RewriteRule ^/marketplace(.*) http://www.myvirtualhost.com:8080/VirtualHostBase/http/www.myvirtualhost.co… [P] Is that correct? Do I need another rule to get all other content passed straight through, or will it only rewrite URLs that match the one above? If I need another rule, I need some more help. : \ Thanks in advance for any assistance. Darren Addy Web Specialist Information Technology Services University of Nebraska at Kearney
