Issue

Hi, I have some problems with my zope application. I have Zope 2.5 running with the next specifications: HW 2 PIII 800 Mhz 1Gb RAM 1Gb Swap 26 Gb HDD SW OS RH 7.2 Python 2.1.2 Squid (for caching) But for some reason the site replay is too slow, with a "lot" of traffic, I mean site with 1,000,000 Page Views per momth. In the beginning we Attached Zope to apache, but the use of Fast-CGI, was very slow. So we put squid in front of Zope, instead of apache, for caching the pages, kepping Zope out to process every request that was made by a client, this solution raised the aceleration of the site, but not as much as we want. The site takes 3 to 5 minutes to load in a 33.600 modem, this too slow. Please help me, what can we be doing wrong? why the site is too slow? Thks Tavo

Changing the name of a python class in FTP Client directory listing
by Jean-François Ménard 05 Mar '02

05 Mar '02

I have some custom python classes in a product that I want to be available via FTP. The problem is: Classes instances have some very beautifuls names like "3253474252.12" ... How could I send the (real) name of the documents to FTP clients? I tried to override manage_FTPlist with no success... Bonus question... I would like to create custom classes instances from FTP PUT requests, probably based on file extension. Any ideas? :)) Jeff

Creating new permissions -- outside a Product ?
by Heimo Laukkanen 05 Mar '02

05 Mar '02

I am creating a site, where I use mostly standard-components, DTML-methods, Zwiki, Kubes etc. I manage users by roles, but would like to create additional permissions. Is it possible to create permission outside any product -- or should I create a dummy-product that introduces these new permissions I want to use with my dtml-methods and PythonScripts? -huima

problem creating MySQL-python rpm: _mysql not found.
by Ron Arts 05 Mar '02

05 Mar '02

Hi, this must be a FAQ but, and maybe this is not the right list but.. I am trying to create an RPM out of MySQL-python. The README states: you *must* compile using 'Zope's python'. Ok, so what does that mean? I looked around google and it seems to mean: 'the python that z2.py is started by.' Ok, that's /usr/bin/python2.1, so I did: $ /usr/bin/python2.1 setup.py bdist_rpm and indeed, it creates an .rpm. But when I look inside that rpm, it contains /usr/lib/python1.5/site-packages/MySQLdb/*, so it uses python 1.5!! Indeed if I install the rpm (and ZMySQLDA after it) then ZMySQLDA is broken and says 'ImportError: No module named _mysql' Does anyone have experience building rpm's with python? Thanks, Ron Arts

Problems with absolute_url in my product
by Paul Tiemann 05 Mar '02

05 Mar '02

Zalutations! I'm running in to a problem here that probably has a simple answer: I have a class that extends ObjectManager, and that class has another ObjectManager attribute called 'data', like this: class MyChildClass( ObjectManager.ObjectManager ): def __init__(self,id): self.id = id class MyZopeClass( ObjectManager.ObjectManager ): def __init__(self): self._setObject('data', MyChildClass('data')) I have all of the add forms and constructors in place, and I can add instances of "MyZopeClass" using the ZMI. If I add one of these instances to my root folder as 'myzopeclass' then I can go to http://me:8080/myzopeclass and it just throws up the index_html from the root folder because I don't have anything defined there... But I wrote a small dtml method to show the absolute_url value for an object, and when I go to http://me:8080/myzopeclass/abs it doesn't show the correct absolute URL. (This is what is in the 'abs' dtml method) "<dtml-var absolute_url>" (that's it) Going to http://me:8080/abs gives http://me:8080/ as you would hope. Going to http://me:8080/myzopeclass/abs gives http://me:8080/ again, but that's not what I expected Going to http://me:8080/myzopeclass/data/abs gives http://me:8080// which is odd too. Is there something I'm missing that is causing the acquisition or something else to break? RE: [Zope] Page Templates problem
by Agata Cruickshank 05 Mar '02

I'm using PageTemplates product version 1.4.1 with Zope 2.4.3. I get the error message immediately when selecting create new Page Template option from the drop down selection box, so I do not get an option of entering Id or title. However if I try to create a new Page Template in Netscape rather than Explorer it seems to work fine. If I try to edit this new Page Template in Explorer I get the error message again. I'm not sure where "manage_page_header" can be found, but it appears that Explorer cannot find a path to it, while Netscape can. Security-Trouble with HEAD.Method
by Maik Jablonski 05 Mar '02

05 Mar '02

hello, yesterday all my documents were accessed by an Anonymous User with a method called HEAD (I played around with some linkcheckers, but that doesn't change the nature of the problem). Now the bobobase_modification_time of all my docs/folders is changed!!! the undo-tab of all docs/folders says: /path/to/the/document_or_folder/HEAD by Anonymous User and so on... I think it must have to do with the webdav/HEAD-methods. But why is an Anonymous User allowed to change the Bobobase-Modification-Time? I'm working with a standard-2.5.0.source-installation and had changed nothing in the security-tab of the root-folder. My guess: by default an Anonymous User has the right "WebDAV access". Is there any connection to the described problem? What's the "WebDAV access" for Anonymous good for? Would'nt it be better to turn off this by default? Thank you for help in advance. Auth problem, CMF, XML-RPC, ZCLASS
by Brad Clements 05 Mar '02

05 Mar '02

I'm looking for any suggestions how to solve this problem. It's somewhat complicated. I'll try to be clear in explanation. Sorry for the double post, I'm not sure if this is a CMF/cookie crumbler issue, or a Zope issue. Zope 2.5.0 binary on RH Linux 7.1 with CMF beta 1.1 (will upgrade shortly, but I don't that's the issue). Layout of items is like this: / (zope root) /AdkWood (folder) /CMF (CMF Site) /Manage (has javascript source and index_html for one-page web app) /Members (folder) /bkc (folder) /mycompany (ZClass instance of SearchableCompany) /acl_users (for CMF) /acl_users (top level) In Products/SearchableCompanyProduct/SearchableCompany/methods CompanyRequest_py (python Script) Program Description: User navigates to /AdkWood/CMF/Manage This is a protected folder so they must be an Owner or Manager.. Get the login form screen and can authenticate with either CMF/acl_users username or root /acl_users username. The problem occurs either way. The Manage/index_html page template loads up lots of Javascript. It fills a select box with a list of URL paths to SearchableCompany Zclass instances that the user has the owner role on. On the client, when the user selects one of these items, the client javascript builds an XML-RPC request by taking the URL path of the SearchableCompany and calling the CompanyRequest_py method on it via XML-RPC. In Zope, after xmlrpc.py decodes the request, we get a path like: /AdkWood/CMF/Members/bkc/mycompany/CompanyRequest_py I can load the above URL in the same browser instance that had previously authenticated to Zope to get the /Manage/index_html page (cached cookie) and the request is processed correctly. However when I use xml-rpc to call the method, I get an "Unauthorized, no authentication header found" error. (about line 405 in BaseRequest.py) if user is None and roles != UNSPECIFIED_ROLES: response.unauthorized() Lots of print statements later, I find that user is None, and roles = ['Owner','Manager'] Using tcpwatch.py, I see that the xml-rpc request DOES include the authentication cookie previously received through the login process. It just doesn't seem to be honored by the higher level old_validation() methods. This is strange because the same browser instance, using the same cookie, can directly navigate to the same URL that the xml-rpc request is sending. As a quick hack, I changed vxXMLRPC (the xml-rpc javascript client) to send Basic authentication information in every request. When I do this, the xml-rpc method does work. However I'd rather not use it this way. So my question is.. Is it possible this is a cookie-crumbler issue because my Zclass instances are "inside" CMF, or is this somehow dependent on xml-rpc processing not working quite right on the server? Or, maybe this is related to authenticating first to /CMF/Manager folder, but then using the same auth cookie through /CMF/Members/... However I think this wouldn't be an issue..
