improving Security ZMI dialog

When Anonymous has a certain permission, all other roles have it as well. When Authenticated has a certain permission, all other roles except Anonymous have it as well. I think that permissions should not be "selectable" for those roles. Instead there would be an image icon meaning "selected and locked". Like this: Anonymous Authenticated Editor Manager Permission 1 [ ] [ ] [ ] [x] Permission 2 [ ] [x] * * Permission 3 [x] * * * ...where: [ ] = not selected [x] = selected [*] = selected and locked -- Milos Prudek

Are External Methods faster than Python Scripts?
by Ausum Studio 06 Mar '02

06 Mar '02

I have a few complex methods (DTML skins ) which execution causes Zope to become slow. As a result it can take from 4 to 10 seconds to respond a single request to any of those methods, on a Win2K Pentium200 test box plenty of RAM, and that's bad for an application meant to support up to 20 requests at the same time, whatever the destination hardware could be. (Caching wouldn't help because they are methods related to personalization stuff) Facing the step of translating those methods into Python Scripts, I'm considering the use of External Methods instead. Are they faster than Scripts? Has anyone made performance comparisons between the different existing types of scripts, in order to optimize Zope's performance? Thanks in advance, Ausum

But I want to include the CONTENT of a file into this page template. -> what should be the format of the file that I want to include -> how do I make the include statement from my page template? In fact, all mail goes to the admin. _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx

AUTHENTICATED_USER insecure. But how insecure?
by Heimo Laukkanen 06 Mar '02

06 Mar '02

"SecurityGetUser = Return the current user object. This is normally the same as the REQUEST.AUTHENTICATED_USER object. However, the AUTHENTICATED_USER object is insecure since it can be replaced" This is something that has been confusing me, since it is never explained. How much I should worry about that REQUEST.AUTHENTICATED_USER is changed - and is there much performance downside or something else for using the SecurityGetUser -- which goes all the way back to the Security Manager to get the user. -huima

Performance testing & tuning for Zope
by Heimo Laukkanen 06 Mar '02

06 Mar '02

Hi, I was wondering where to turn to for tips about performance tuning for Zope-sites. In general I would also be intersted about which document should be read so that the designs them selves would not require too much work from Zope. Also if you have suggestions for test-suites or programs for example load testing etc. all comments are appreciated. -huima

I'm not sure if that's fully threaded. on the "-t" option i've given zope a 100 threads to work with, which should be more than enough seeing there's only ~20 users using it at a time >"Advanced" caching facility may help you to get higher throughput. --- Is setting the cache Higher or Lower better for throughput?
