Zope user limit?
by mick polo 05 Mar '02

05 Mar '02

Hi all I am running Zope an intranet app that updates and reads ZSQL data. here's my setup: zope sits on a Piii 128SDRAM Win98 20 other machines (Pii 32SDRAM Win95) read from a ZSQL database on this zope machine every 10 seconds each. I am finding that I can only manage to get this running on 13-14 machines at a time the rest Jam Up on a white Browser screen waiting.... As soon as I free up a machine another one is able to view zope. It seems that there is some kind of user limit or zope just can't handle any more connections... the Piii machine that it sits on works fine... it really seems like zope.. I am running a 100mbps network... please help thanx mike _________________________________________________________________ Join the worlds largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com

gotchas upgrading from 2.1.6 (!) to 2.4.3 ?
by Shriek＠gmx.co.uk 05 Mar '02

05 Mar '02

Am upgrading from Zope 2.1.6 (sic!) to 2.4.3. I know 2.5.0 is out but I'm using a VPS so I don't get a choice in version of Zope. As you can guess, I've been out of Zope for a while and noticed some changes. For example, ZPT seems to be a big addition though don't think I'm going to use it. I'm most interested in things that are going to break the migration of my old sites built on 2.1.6 which used products such as SQLSession, SiteAccess and TinyTablesPlus. I've imported these packages into Zope 2.4.3 without problem. Some gotchas I've encountered ~ __no_before_traverse__ no longer works. I seem to get quite a lot of "guarded_getattr" errors. REQUEST is no longer available Anything else in particular I should watch out for ? Stephen. -- GMX - Die Kommunikationsplattform im Internet. http://www.gmx.net

Inheriting Image Classes in ZClasses?
by Dianne Van Dulken 05 Mar '02

05 Mar '02

Hi All, First of all, I'd like to thank everyone who helped me with my auto-cataloging thing. That is working beautifully now. Onto my new problem. I am trying to set up an image subclass for a particular project that I am on. As well as the normal image properties, it has things like alt, display height, copyright, etc. I've set up a ZClass called OPImage. The problem I am having is actually defining it to be a subclass. I can add items matching this class, but whenever I go to edit them, it brings me up to the standard image edit, which, of course, ignores all of the new properties I have set. I have my own edit form set up as the first option in the views tag for the propertysheets for this class. The code I have for adding an item of this class is: <dtml-with expr="REQUEST.form"> <dtml-call "manage_addImage(objectname, file, title=thetitle)"> <dtml-with "_.getitem(_['objectname'])"> <dtml-call "manage_addProperty('alt', alttag, 'string')"> <dtml-if expr="dheight == ''"> <dtml-call "manage_addProperty('dheight', height, 'string')"> <dtml-else> <dtml-call "manage_addProperty('dheight', dheight, 'string')"> </dtml-if> <dtml-if expr="dwidth == ''"> <dtml-call "manage_addProperty('dwidth', width, 'string')"> <dtml-else> <dtml-call "manage_addProperty('dwidth', dwidth, 'string')"> </dtml-if> </dtml-with> </dtml-with> (If there is something awful there, please let me know as I am new to Zope) It is pretty obvious to me that the manage_addImage is causing the problem, but I can't work out how else to set it, or how exactly I define this to be a subclass of the Image class. I've looked through the archives, and can see it CAN be done, but no hints as to how. Help! Thanks very much Di

Convert String to object?
by Martin Bernhardt 05 Mar '02

05 Mar '02

Hi! This might be a newbie question but I only started with Zope a few days ago and came across a problem that some of you might be able to help me with. I want to create a document management system with 10 different folders that authenticated users of the system can upload files to. So far, I use two DTML-methods, one containing an HTML-form (specifying filename, id, description etc.) and another one to process the form-data and the file-upload. In the document containing the form, users can specify the folder they want to upload the file to. In order to find all the possible folders in the container object I use a <dtml-in expr="objectValues('Folder')"> - loop. Up to this point, everything works out fine and users can easily select the desired folder. My problem is that I have not yet found a way to upload the files to the CORRECT folder. I have access to the 'id' and 'title' attribute of the desired folder in my form-processing-method, but how can I convert these attributes to an object? (My plan was to use Zope-Acquisition and to call the upload-method on the desired folder-object). Do I have to convert the attributes at all or is there another way to upload the files to a folder different from the current folder without having access to the folder-object (merely its id in String format (as part of the REQUEST-object))? To further illustrate the problem, here's the line of code I have trouble with (taken from the process-form-method: THIS obviously doesn't work :-) <dtml-call "REQUEST['selectedFolder'].manage_addImage(REQUEST['id'], file, REQUEST['title'])"> Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Cheers, Martin

Is it possible to change manage forms encoding?
by Marcin Kasperski 05 Mar '02

05 Mar '02

As I recently migrated to mozilla (in fact to galeon), I noticed some problem with zope management screens: this browser respects the declared encoding, so the management screens are presented as iso-8859-1 in the corresponding font. As my pages are titled and my documents written in Polish (iso-8859-2), I see some strange marks instead of my national characters. So: is it possible to ask Zope to change the encoding of management screens? -- ( Marcin Kasperski | For waterfall, milestones are commitments. Looking for download sites for Easy Publisher.
by Lennart Regebro 05 Mar '02

05 Mar '02

We are looking for some good alternative download sites where we can put the installation exe for Easy Publisher. One or two is probably enough. When we released 16b1 a month ago 100 persons downloaded it in 12 hours, which is the maximum load our poor server can handle.:-) OK, we have upgraded the server, but we'd like to be sure when we release the final version (probably next week). We thought of download.com, but it seems you actually no longer download it from there. :-/ So does anybody know of any good places where you can put up files for download for free that we can use as default location for the installation exe? It's about 8MB. Lennart Regebro Torped http://easypublisher.torped.se/english/

RE: [Zope] RE: [Zope-dev] Squid Proxy VS LVS+Apache+ZEO
by sean.upton＠uniontrib.com 05 Mar '02

The caveats, of course, are first, I haven't done this yet, but I know it is possible; secondly, Squid 2.5 is still in prerelease. I was going to try and to set this up to play around with SSL accel, but haven't had the chance yet. I'm going to be working on a tutorial/howto, and one of my goals is to get SSL working. I'm working on doing this with Squid 2.5PRE3, and if I can get this working later this week, I'll post something on Zope.org, and announce it on the list... I would be _very_ interested in a little howto about this -- I could add it to my squid+zope+siteaccess2 howto as well... _______________________________________________ Zope maillist - Zope(a)zope.org http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope ** No cross posts or HTML encoding! ** (Related lists - http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-announce http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev )

out-of-box software development "portal"
by richard offer 05 Mar '02

05 Mar '02

Hi, I'm getting close to an alpha release of some (non) Zope software and was looking for a all-in-one-box project/release management interface, you know tracking issues/file library/news, sort of a sourceforge-lite, but using the one true language :-) I can probably piece it together from a bunch of different products, but was wondering if anyone had already thought of it and done my work for me :-) A software project development appliance seems like it could take Zope into areas that it wouldn't otherwise go, with the recent changes in Sourceforge it could prove appealling to a number of users including small groups in large companies. To really work it would literally have to be an appliance, install the RPM, edit the project name, select services required and you're live... So is it roll-up-my-sleeves and do it myself or install "X" ? richard. -- richard offer @ home DSS 3072/1024 0x8AFBBFA3 84 FE 48 E4 74 D0 26 D4 31 8E B6 86 98 74 E2 7C 8A FB BF A3 _____________________________http://www.whitequeen.com/users/richard/

by Lily Li 05 Mar '02

Hi, Our site is using zope v2.3.3 and CMF v1.1. I've got a requirement to forbid simultaneous log on with one user id at different locations. Does CMF provide this feature? Or is there any way I can do it? Thank a lot in advance. Lily Li Software Developer Kaval Wireless Technologies
