using content_html to auto call content_html of a particular folder
by Hamzal Kamal 05 Mar '02

Hello Steve, I want visitors my site to see the content_html inside news folder as they typed my url into the address of their browsers, at the same time i did not want to include the name of the folder (news) in that my url. There4 i have to define the root content_html like this; <dtml-in "news.objectItems(['DTML Method'])"> <dtml-let content=id> <dtml-if expr="content=='content_html'"> <dtml-var expr="_.getitem(content,1)"> </dtml-if> </dtml-let> </dtml-in> And i defined the content_html inside the news folder as follows; <table> <tr> <td width=300> <dtml-in "objectItems(['Folder'])"> <dtml-var title> <dtml-try> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('mm', ZopeTime().strftime('%d%m%y'))"> <dtml-var expr="_.getitem(mm,1)[0:500]"> <a href="&dtml-URL1;/&dtml-id;/"> More... </a><br> <dtml-except> </dtml-try> </dtml-in> </td> <td> <ul> <dtml-in "others.objectValues(['DTML Document'])" sort=title> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('mm', ZopeTime().strftime('%d%m%y'))"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('today', id)"> <dtml-if expr="mm==today()[0:6]"> <li> <a href="&dtml-URL0;/&dtml-id;"> &dtml-title; </a> </li> </dtml-if> </dtml-in> </ul> </td> </tr> </table> Then my problem here is that when i run the content_html in the news folder it gives me the expected result i.e it displays the content in the table col 1 and table col2 accurately but when i run the content_html in the root it displayes only the content in the table col2 . Kindly help me out. Creating instances of products - finding id for them - example
by Heimo Laukkanen 05 Mar '02

05 Mar '02

Here is a small example how I create in one PythonScript new instances of products - and manage to get new ids for them. Ideas I got from discussions on zope-mailing list. Comments appreciated # # idtsrat = id which we are trying to crete, this is the base for new id # First we check wether the id exists, if it exists # If it exists we start to add a counting number after it and checking # wether that exists if hasattr(context, idstart): while hasattr(context, (idstart + str (start +1 ))): start = start + 1 id = idstart + str(start +1) else: id = idstart # # And then we try to create the instance. If it fails - for example # another thread created instance with same id. Add one to the id and # try again while 1: try: ****Create the instance here with id****; break; except: start= start + 1 id = idstart + str(start +1)

CMF: Phantom news item
by Tom Nixon 05 Mar '02

05 Mar '02

This is a page in a CMF site: http://www.aim23.com/aim.cms/brightonunderground/bu/recent_news aim.cms is the pcgi script brightonunderground is a folder bu is a CMF portal If you look at the last two news items on the page, one is linking to: http://www.aim23.com/aim.cms/brightonunderground/bu/newWebSite and the other to: http://www.aim23.com/aim.cms/bu/newWebSite Note that the second link is actually an object outside the CMF which doesn't even exist, so why is it appearing in the news list? I cannot find the phantom item anywhere so I cannot delete it. The CMF portal "bu" was originally in the Zope root, but I made a copy of it in the brightonunderground folder. I have since deleted the original, but somehow this news item has been left behind. Does anyone know how I can delete it? RE: [Zope] Page Templates problem
by Agata Cruickshank 05 Mar '02

Dear Dieter, I do apologise to you and anyone else who was upset by my e-mail. I've just had to change my e-mail client and didn't notice that the default setting was 'rich text' rather then 'plain text'. I've changed it now, so hopefully I will not cause more nuisance. Second: I didn't attach a stupid multi-kb image (I've just pasted the error text I get in Zope), but I'm sorry that it was rendered this way by your mail client. It is certainly not what I intended. I was just keen to supply as much information as possible to make it easier for anyone to spot the error and help me to sort it out and thought that providing the error message would be helpful. I apologise again. Agata -----Original Message----- From: Dieter Maurer [mailto:dieter@handshake.de] Sent: 04 March 2002 22:30 To: Agata Cruickshank Subject: Re: [Zope] Page Templates problem Are you a bit crazy? First: you send html mails into a mailing list while each post tells you (at the end) you should use plain text mails only... Second: you attach a stupid multi-kb image. If this happens again, my kill file will immediately filter out any mails from you. Dieter

creating product instances using dtml
by Micah Martin 05 Mar '02

05 Mar '02

Howdy All, I've been trying to figure out how to make instances of a product without using the management interface. For example, lets say my product is called MyProduct and I've defined manage_addMyProduct in the .py file. I can create the object by spoofing urls, but I'd like to be able to create the object using dtml. I've tried: <dtml-call expr="someFolder.manage_addMyProduct('someId')"> but the manage_addMyProduct method can't be found. Does anyone know how this is done? Thanks, Micah

The Principles of Designing a Heavy Load Site with Zope
by iap＠y2fun.com 05 Mar '02

05 Mar '02

Hi, This issue has been discussed again and again, I would like to clarify my idea and your comments will be very appreciated. Suppose we want to provide a server which is: 1) Hosting 1,000,000 members' profile. Each member's disk quota is 5MB. Which means we need at least 5,000GB (5 TeraGB) disk space. 2) Assume the concurrent accessing to a URL is 1000 request/per second 3) Assume all the requests retrieve dynamic content. 4) We want to leverage the power of Zope which means all the pages should be rendered by zope. The priciples I would like to verify are: 1) Some database (RDBMS) should be used instead of FileStorage for ZODB. 2) The ZEO should be used for constructing a cluster computing. 3) The Apache should be the front end instead of ZServer. 4) The PCGI should be the connection between Apache and Zope. 5) I shouldn't create static instance into the ZODB but query the external database. 6) The "Cache" of zope is useless since all the responses are dynamic rendered. By the way, how much will this kind of system costs, regardless the hardware? Iap, Singuan

Confused about ZSyncer setup
by alan milligan 05 Mar '02

05 Mar '02

Hi, I am trying to get ZSyncer working between my dev server and my production machine using https. My production box uses Apache to delegate to my ZServer using ProxyPass. This works fine for my manage interface. I have set up a ZSyncer instance on my dev box with a destination of https://www.mydomain.com/site/ZSyncer. There is a ZSyncer product here on my production box, and the proxy seems to delegate properly, although the index page is brought up when referencing this ZSyncer object (is this normal????) Firstly, I am confused as to why one needs a ZSyncer instance on the target (the documentation intimates this is necessary). Surely the source version specifies the items to be synchronised, and the user/pwd combo provide enough authentication. Secondly, when I try to 'sync' from dev, I get an 'There was a problem with that comparison.' error, and tips to verify my url, user/pwd combo etc. It fails to connect. Not only that, it does not write any log info to the specified log file either. I am highly suspicious that it is even attempting to connect. What am I missing?
