I am able to access the web management interface with the initial user admin created at installation time. Later I had added a user "portal_manager", which could login without any problems. About one week later I couldn't login with this user but could still login with user admin. Restarting ZServer solved the problem. This is not a problem for a test site, but in a production environment we don't want to restart ZServer each time a user can't login. Is there a solution for this problem (without restarting Zserver) ? With kind regards, Juergen Berger

Validating Form Data
by Mike Tran 05 Mar '02

05 Mar '02

I am using the Javascript below to validate data on my form. The part where it validate form data works fine. My problem is when I call on the method "insertResume", my form variables does not get passed. For example, on the form i have a textbox field called "age". I reference this in the "insertResume" method with <dtml-var age>, but the age variable does not get passed from the form to the "insertResume" method. Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this or maybe show me how to validate form data in Zope? I've tried <dtml-unless> but the user have to go to another page and go back to the form itself to correct the data. With Javascript the user can stay on the same page. Thanks, <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript"> </SCRIPT> <FORM METHOD="POST" ACTION="insertResume" onSubmit="return valid(this)"> Your age:<BR><INPUT TYPE="text" NAME="age" SIZE="2"><BR> Desired Job:<BR><INPUT TYPE="text" NAME="job" SIZE="40"><BR> Resume:<BR><TEXTAREA NAME="resume" COLS="40" ROWS="5"></TEXTAREA><BR> <INPUT TYPE="submit" VALUE="Send Resume"> </FORM> -- Mike

RE: [Zope-dev] Squid Proxy VS LVS+Apache+ZEO
by sean.upton＠uniontrib.com 05 Mar '02

I would suggest moving this to zope(a)zope.org, which I've cc'd. I would strongly suggest using Squid as an alternative to both Apache and LVS and kill two birds with one stone here, allowing you to get caching and load-balancing a ZEO cluster with one tool. Squid will load-balance a cluster of ZEO clients by talking directly to ZServer on each of those boxes. With Toby Dickenson's ICP patch to Zope, you can have ZServer handle ICP requests, which will allow your ZEO clients to becomre part of the cache hierarchy for Squid. This means that Squid will truly load-balance your ZEO servers, in the same fashion LVS would... Squid replaces Apache, mod_proxy, LVS, and provides caching too! Personally, I'm of the opinion that every production install of Zope needs ZEO, not just for performance, but also for the convenience factor. You absolutely need ZEO, though, if you have high-traffic, and low ability to cache most of it (i.e. lots of dynamic content). Also, if you need SSL, use Squid 2.5 with OpenSSL to accelerate all your backend non-SSL servers, including ZServer, Apache, etc... Oh, and if you need Apache for non-Zope stuff, Squid will proxy that too. Sean -----Original Message----- From: Eric Roby [mailto:Eric.Roby@noaa.gov] Sent: Tuesday, March 05, 2002 6:59 AM To: zope-dev(a)zope.org Subject: [Zope-dev] Squid Proxy VS LVS+Apache+ZEO I apologize (in advance) if this is on the wrong list but some of the previous discussions regarding these topics have been done here. I have read much of the documentation on Squid, the zope.org cluster configuration, and many of the excellent How-To's out there. However, my particular case requires ssl for authentication to the ZMI. It appears that ssl is best accomplished with Squid, however we have to be able to provide many of the services that the zope.org cluster leverages with LVS. It appears that the Apache+mod_proxy+ZEO configuration provides much of the functionality that Squid+ZServer would provide, alone. I guess my biggest problem is determining whether it makes sense to use Squid in conjunction with ZEO (which we want to pursue) or re-build Apache with mod_ssl in the LVS+Apache+mod_proxy+ZEO setup?? If any one has been down this road I would greatly appreciate any insight that you might have. Thanks in advance... Is the scheduled method added to the Schedule? Are it's parameters set correctly? Is there an entry in the STUPID_LOG_FILE? What does it say? Does it work when you use the View tab of the scheduled method? Does it work when you use the Trigger tab? > Is it possible to execute an external method since xron ? > Can you explain me how to do this ? It's possible. I need more diagnostic information from you to see why it's not working. The usual problem is insufficient permissions. Remember, the scheduled method runs as Anonymous User. You have to give it proxy roles if you want it to call any priviledged methods. -- Loren

How to disallow distribution of ZClass products?
by Lars Heber 05 Mar '02

05 Mar '02

I tried it several times: Distributed a ZClass product via Distribution tab, checked the radio button "Disallow..." and deselected all items in the box below. Then I took this file either to another computer or the same, both don't have this product installed (any more). But, both times, at least changing methods and ZClasses, mostly also redistributing of the product is possible. BTW: The icon of my product is the CLOSED box! BTW2: When testing it on the same machine, icon stays CLOSED after deleting the product from lib/python/Products, restarting Zope and reimporting the formerly backupped product.zexp. Why that? It should be OPEN again, shouldn't it? Running Zope 2.3.0 on Win NT / Zope 2.4.1 on Linux respectively. Bug, feature or my mistake? Any suggestions are appreciated. Re: Problems with absolute_url in my product
by Paul Tiemann 05 Mar '02

05 Mar '02

Good news! I solved the problem; it's amazing what one night of sleep can do for a problem. To make the absolute_url work I needed to inherit from OFS.SimpleItem.Item as well as from ObjectManager. After I added Item in the mix things automatically started working fine. _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com

.htaccess like password in Zope?
by Preben Mikael Bohn 05 Mar '02

05 Mar '02

Hi all, I'm relatively new to Zope, so I hope this is not a FAQ. Is it possible to make some folders password protected like in Apaches .htaccess way? I do not want to let users *manage* content (as in a user folder), just to let them access the content as usual... Virtual Hosts with apache rewriterule module and siteroot
by Hervé Richard 05 Mar '02

05 Mar '02

Hi, Since a long time i try to install apache with 2 independant zope servers on the same machine (solaris 5.7) by using virtual hosting ans siteroot zope object, i scan hows-to and mail archives but i can't solve my pb : i want to have two zope servers on my sun: http://www.mysite.fr:9080 and http://www.another.org:6080 (virtual) in the second i create a folder "another" which contain a siteroot object : /another/siteroot base = http://www.another.org path = /another I want to use apache with *rewriterule module*, so i add some directives in my httpd.conf (see bottom) When i restart Apache and i try it (with netscape), to the request : http://www.mysite.fr i see the right web page http://www.another.org i see the apache server response : Proxy Error The proxy server could not handle the request GET/ Reason : Host not found When i try with the www.another.org zope server down, (i.e. like a classic directory) it's right: i see the welcome pages. I think that the matter come from my siteroot object please, have you any idea, experience ?
