mxm Product
by Heimo Laukkanen 14 Feb '02

14 Feb '02

Hi, I stubled into a strange problem, when I tried to start use the mxm-Product, which is created to help the creation of new Python-based products. I followed the example on http://www.zope.org/Members/maxm/HowTo/easyProduct/ and created mxmItem. It worked -- execpt that my own index_html or summary files are never used. Meaning the output of view is allways the standard output that mxm-product provides. Below is my the code I have. In www-directory I have the index_html.dtml and summary.dtml-files. Zope 2.4.3 and Python 2.1.1. Any help or ideas where could the problem be? Untill then I better start my product from scratch ,-( -huima --- mxmItem --- from Products.mxm import mxmSimpleItem from Globals import HTMLFile class mxmItem(mxmSimpleItem.mxmSimpleItem): meta_type = 'mxmItem' _properties = ( {'id':'title', 'type':'string', 'mode':'w'}, {'id':'Summary', 'type':'text', 'mode':'w'}, {'id':'content', 'type':'text', 'mode':'w'}, {'id':'author', 'type':'string', 'mode':'w'}, ) __ac_permissions__ = mxmSimpleItem.mxmSimpleItem.__ac_permissions__ + ( # label ('View', # methods ('summary',), # roles ('Anonymous', 'Manager'), ), ) # Used to view content of the object index_html = HTMLFile('www/index_html', globals()) # Used to view content of the object summary = HTMLFile('www/summary', globals()) ##################################################### # Constructor functions, only used when adding class # to objectManager def manage_addAction(self, id=None, REQUEST=None): "Add instance to parent ObjectManager" mxmSimpleItem.addClass(self, id, mxmItem, REQUEST) constructors = (mxmSimpleItem.manage_addForm, manage_addAction)

strange ftp problem
by Markus Schaber 14 Feb '02

14 Feb '02

Hi, I experience strange problems when fetching binary files out of the zope database. I downloaded it several, all versions differ, and are different from the original (downloading per http works fine, it gives the correct file). Example: FTP commandline (after logging in and changing working directory): ftp> put putty.exe local: putty.exe remote: putty.exe 227 Entering Passive Mode (134,60,17,60,187,111). 150 Opening Binary connection for putty.exe 100% |*************************************| 220 KB 880.30 KB/s 00:00 ETA 226 Transfer complete. 225280 bytes sent in 00:00 (443.89 KB/s) ftp> get putty.exe putty2.exe local: putty2.exe remote: putty.exe 227 Entering Passive Mode (134,60,17,60,187,117). 150 Opening Binary mode data connection for file 'putty.exe' 100% |*************************************| 220 KB 1.29 MB/s --:-- ETA 226 Transfer complete 225517 bytes received in 00:00 (981.69 KB/s) ftp> get putty.exe putty3.exe local: putty3.exe remote: putty.exe 227 Entering Passive Mode (134,60,17,60,187,120). 150 Opening Binary mode data connection for file 'putty.exe' 100% |*************************************| 220 KB 1.29 MB/s --:-- ETA 226 Transfer complete 225517 bytes received in 00:00 (1.17 MB/s) Then, again in the shell: total 696 -rw------- 1 ms1 users 225280 Jan 16 11:58 putty.exe -rw------- 1 ms1 users 225517 Jan 16 12:11 putty2.exe -rw------- 1 ms1 users 225517 Jan 16 12:11 putty3.exe ms1@wsl12:~/test > diff putty2.exe putty3.exe Binary files putty2.exe and putty3.exe differ Also all damaged versions share the same length, it is not likely to be a line feed conversion problem (accidental ascii transfer), because this would give identically damaged files. This happens with different types of binary files (I tested exe and zip, some of my users had problems with wav), but it seems to work fine with txt, html and images. It appeared at least with linux command line ftp, wsftp and IE5, so it is likely to be a server problem. Uploading can be with ftp or http, download per ftp produces damaged files. I use the debian version of Zope 2.4.2 (source release, python 2.1, linux2), python 2.1.1, linux2), installed products are - apart from the standard products - the HTMLDocument 0.9 and my own product (which does not fiddle anything with FTP at all). Can anybody reproduce this? markus -- Markus Schaber - http://www.schabi.de/ Check in to another world - test a _real_ OS.

Re: [Zope] slow authentication popup in 2.5.0?, one step ahead
by H.de.Wit＠SFK.NL 14 Feb '02

Hello Chris and others The sun is shining and a little experimenting brought me a little further. The problem seems to be in the data.fs, and probably not in the dns-lookup. I removed the 2.5.0 installation completely and installed 2.4.3 again. It worked fine in an new installation, the authentication popup showed immediately. Then i added the data.fs from the 2.4.1 production server (yes, i did remove the indices) Again, it worked fine, the authentication popup showed immediately. Then i removed 2.4.3 completely. With a fresh 2.5.0 installion and a fresh data.fs it worked fine. Conclusion: nothing wrong with dns Then i added the data.fs. from the 2.4.1 production server, and there the problem was again. A slow popup, 24 seconds to appear. New idea 1: updating via 2.4.3 add old 2.4.1 data.fs to 2.4.3 test server, pack it, and add the result to the 2.5.0 test server >From 2.4.1 to 2.4.3 the size went from 5.5 to 6.1 mb. When i packed it it was again 5.5 mb But when i added the 2.4.3 data.fs to the 2.5.0 installation the problem was there again. New idea 2: updating via export That is what i am going to do now, but this takes quite an effort. May be somebody has another idea? Re: [Zope] Houston, we have forked - ZMySQLDA keeps braking
by Juan Garcia Garcia 14 Feb '02

Hi, > The sympton is that zope restarts for some reason and when it restarts, > it cannot import the ZMySQLDA product.... Any Ideas? > > ... > > IOError: [Errno 5] Input/output error > There was a similar question in the list and someone answered it. I write you the answer hoping it could help you: ------------------------------------------------------------------------- run your zope instance with nohup, like [machine:~] user% nohup ./start & this will send anything that would be written to the terminal to a text file named "nohup.out" in that same location and you can safely close the terminal window. of course it makes sense to check that file once in a while. in this case the product wants to write a traceback. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bye. Implementing page comments?
by Marcin Kasperski 14 Feb '02

14 Feb '02

I would like to implement page comments on my website (something similar to the comments on the end of http://www.photo.net/samantha/samantha-I and other cities based on ArsDigita, although probably a bit differently presented). Currently I consider hacking squishdot a bit so it can be used as part of the page, but maybe I am wrong and there is some better way? What zopist use in the similar context?

ReportLab + Zope : here's a working example
by Jerome Alet 14 Feb '02

14 Feb '02

Hi, some time ago I've put some sample scripts for people who didn't know how to use ReportLab from within Zope, at : http://cortex.unice.fr/~jerome/RLfromZope unfortunately, because of lack of time those scripts were just made for people to look at, but people couldn't make them run, because I hadn't stripped all our particularities : some methods and images were missing. so I'm please to announce the availability of rlzope, available from the very same url as mentionned above, but which is a completely self contained and working example (tested under Netscape 4.77 and Mozilla 0.9.7 under Debian GNU/Linux) which you can play with. See the README for installation instructions. Hoping this helps. Jerome Alet

Where should I go?
by Lennart Regebro 14 Feb '02

14 Feb '02

Internet Explorer 6.0 implements the p3p privacy standard. But I can't get IE6 to accept my cokkies even though I have a privacy statement. I've looked all over the web but can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Does anybody know of any mailing lists or websites that concern this so I can figure out why it isn't working? The p3p validator at w3.org sais that everything is fine. I've used IBM's p3p generator do create the statement and it sais everything is fine. IE6 doesn't complain, it just rejects my cookies, even at the next lowest setting, which should mean that I either have no compact policy (which I do) or that I collect information without the users implicit concent (which I don't). I'm stumped. Where do I find help?
