displaying a DTML Method from a Python Script
by Doyon, Jean-Francois 14 Feb '02

14 Feb '02

Hello, I just worte a Python Script that I want to act as a page, so I need it to "include" the standard_html_header and standard_html_footer contents. I tried things like: print context.standard_html_header() and varieties thereof, but the closest I get is an error about "this" not being defined, which is funny since "this" does not appear anywhere in my script. Thanks in advance for the help! No, I didn't use image.data. I used index_html() after reading the documentation on the ExtFile/ExtImage product page on zope.org. I see you have been pointed to a much fuller response, but here is the external method that worked for me: ------------ from StringIO import StringIO def resizer(self): for old_folder in self.photos.objectValues(['Folder']): self.photos2.manage_addFolder(old_folder.getId()) new_folder = getattr(self.photos2, old_folder.getId()) for extimage in old_folder.objectValues(['ExtImage']): file = StringIO(extimage.index_html()) new_folder.manage_addProduct['ExtFile'].manage_addExtImage(id=extimage.getId (), title=extimage.title, file=file, create_prev=1, maxx=400, maxy=400, ratio=1) ----------- hth tim

Zope scope (namespace ?) question
by Charles Morrison 14 Feb '02

14 Feb '02

I'm wondering if anyone can give me a clue on using or parsing scope issues in zope. I'm working on a zope + database application where I need to edit existing database records. What I'm doing works very well up to a point. I've created a dtml method which is a cgi form. It send's it's value to another dtml method which uses a <dtml-in > (to a zmysql method)to grab the record data and fill it into another cgi form. That form send's the revised data to another zmysql method. This all works fine when running the original dtml method as itself or imbedded in a dtml document. What I'm running into is that if I embed the first dtml method into the result of another query - like showing all records from a particular date - I run into a format change for the passed form element I don't know how to deal with. Specifically: Normally if I enter the value 109 into the form, the value passed to the next method is 106. It works fine, I expect it and use it that way. When I go out of scope (apparently), the passed value is ['106','']. This messes up the query and I get no matches. I had originally thought that the problem was related to having the calling form in a directory above the called method. This turned out to not be the case as it happens when they are in the same directory. I also copied the content of the cgi form method into the results page directly (not using the <dtml-var> tag to call it. This didn't make any difference. I've tried using <dtml-with REQUEST> when looking up the passed value, but the result is the same. Any hints on how I can get a clean value or parse the value so I could use it without resorting to a python script to pull the number out of the brackets and quotes ? Newbie; management interface
by wilco van erven 13 Feb '02

13 Feb '02

I am studying the ZopeBook: Right now I am reading page 12: Controlling Zope with Management Interface I know how to login: http://localhost:8080/manage The book says: After you successfully login you see a web page of the Zope management interface, as shown in Figure 2-1. But I do not get Figure 2-1 (that is a page with the product add list, the CONTENTS tab, the VIEW tab, the PROPERTIES tab, etc) Instead I get Zope QuickStart: (Start Welcome to Zope, a high-performance object-oriented platform for building dynamic Web applications. Here are some quick pointers to get you started) I would like to see a page like figure 2-1, so I can ADD a folder, make my own pages etc. What do I do wrong? Wilco van Erven

Thanks for replying, I have tried '-D', but I didn't notice any advatage over using the stupid_log. Are there any? ZMySQLDA version = 1-1-3. What could possibly be using stdout? add file to zope filesystem unless it exists
by John Hunter 13 Feb '02

13 Feb '02

I want to have a user upload a file to the zope filesystem, but if the file already exists I want to ignore the request I have a Python Script ## Script (Python) "add_to_filesystem_py" ##bind container=container ##bind context=context ##bind namespace= ##bind script=script ##bind subpath=traverse_subpath ##parameters=folder_name,file_name ##title= ## REQUEST = container.REQUEST RESPONSE = REQUEST.RESPONSE idFolder = getattr(context.Patients, REQUEST.get('id')) folder = getattr(idFolder, folder_name) if not hasattr(folder, file_name): folder.manage_addFile(id='', file=file_name) return getattr(file_name, 'filename') Without the 'if not hasattr(folder, file_name):' the script works fine and adds the file to the filesystem and returns an error if the file already exists there. Apparently I am not using the hasattr part correctly. What is the correct way in a python script to test for the existence of a file in a folder object? Thanks, John Hunter

question about forms and zsql
by Robert Hood, Ph.D. 13 Feb '02

13 Feb '02

So far I'm enjoying zope. I've rewritten several sites using it, and think it will make my work more efficient. One of my older sites stores material in database. I'm probably going to put everything in zope eventually, but for now I just want to improve the search on a (small MS Access) database. So I now use zope to communicate with the database, and have created a form to search it, though at the moment my form is limited to exact matches--e.g., if you search on "Environmental Ethics" you'll get a result, but not if you search "Ethics." In sql you can use LIKE %name% to let people search more flexibly. So how do I pass the %name% from the form to the method? Do I make the change to the form, or to the zsql method? if the form has a field like: <input type="text" name="CourseName" size=20> and the zsql method is: SELECT * FROM Courses WHERE (CourseName LIKE <dtml-sqlvar CourseName type=string> OR SemesterTaught LIKE <dtml-sqlvar SemesterTaught type=string> OR CourseType LIKE <dtml-sqlvar CourseType type=string> ) btw, the site is: http://appliedphilosophy.mtsu.edu/syllabusproject/index.html thanks, Robert

Announce: StarRave SQL
by Ed Colmar 13 Feb '02

13 Feb '02

A few people have been asking me for a new StarRave that works with the new zope verions. So Instead of rehacking the old worn out code, I started over using SQL. I uploaded a very basic StarRaveSQL for people to play with if they are interested. http://www.zope.org/Members/element/StarRave/index_html If anyone wants to see a site in operation hit: www.trust-components.com I hope to have a more feature laden version here shortly, but this will tide people over. -ed-
