2 Questions about links and files

1. I have a local file system directory that has Word doc sermon outlines in it. I'd like to have a link to the most recent of those files, but I don't want to change it manually. Is there some way to have the link point to the most recent file? 2. Obviously, not everyone has Word on their system. Is there some way to dynamically take a word doc from the directory and turn it into a "browser doc" so everyone can see it. I don't want to change the Word docs permanently because people still need and use them as Word docs. I don't want to have to manually transform all of them into html, although if that was the least painful method of dealing with this I could. There are about 85 docs now, but there are at least 2 and as many as 9 added each week. Thanks in advance, Gord Gordon W. Zope solution.

I'd heard about this nice product throught a collegue of mine, and I have some questions in which I hope someone can answer me :-) Me and someothers are working with thermodynamic modelling and alogorithms. One year ago we saw the need of distribution of our code, which means that we made our thermodynamic calculation engine as a separate module, and other modules could use this one (The thermodynamic core could also access other modules again). All communication between the modules are in CORBA. When we want to send data to the modules, id.e. modellparameters we use XML. Later we created a dynamic GUI language for manipulation of the parameters and other stuff, inserting values into the XML tree and calling the different module functions. Its our glue module. (which is more or less does the same as Zope (Correct me if I'm wrong.). So to my question: This summer we built a GUI client using java which communicated with our gluemodule. This is a solution we want to have. Is it possible in Zope to accomplish this in some way. (Id.e communication without using a web client) Best regards, Geir Arne Evjen

Problems writing a new product

Hello, I plan to write a product derived from Folder which has some keywords as additional properties. Those keywords should be included as meta tags of the documents of this folder. I tried to understand the Zope Developers Guide and copied the basic folder class to MyFolder and did some changes. While I had some syntactical errors I´ve got a "Broken product" in my Zope product folder and found the error log. After fixing those errors I was quite happy - but now the Product vanished from my products folder after restarting Zope :-((. Any idea what could be wrong here? I'm using Zope 2.4.2 on a Debian GNU/Linux system. I might note that this could be caused by the following side effect. I had trouble installing the PageTemplate Product which was also not presented in the Products folder. When restarting Zope I've got: # /etc/init.d/zope restart Restarting Zope...WARNING: Python C API version mismatch for module pyexpat: This Python has API version 1010, module pyexpat has version 1007. ........ done. While doing my debugging stuff I did not see this Warning message. But when my Product MyFolder seemed to be syntactically OK this warning reapeared - and PageTemplates was in my Products folder mytseriousely. This is kind of strange but it might be that the warning is a hint that one of my products can not be installed and now MyFolder took over the role of PageTemplates? I append my really first try in a tar file. Could somebody please give me a hint? Kind regards Andreas.

I know Zope has ZopeDB but it is unclear to me as to how to actually make data entries and define a database...or do I have to make my database in postgresql and connect to the database over zope? So I know I should use metal for general site layout (nav bars and the like), but how can I arrange my two underlying databases and what do I use in Zope to connect to them and present the results of the SQL queries? Would it be easy to have a tree like nav bar on the side (like Zope?), what component does the 'tree' code fit under? No need to xplain in too much detail, jbasically just what tool I need to do what and I am sure I can follow one of the tutorials... Many Thanks, Maneesh Hi Maneesh, its good that you have decided to use Zope. Actually its not very clear to me what are your requirements. But as far as creating profiles of people are concern, i think its easily possible with Zope. 1.Maybe you can start with a form with name and other details of your lab members. 2. A small python script will create new entries everytime you feed in the data and create the id's of the entry to number of the employee...or something which will be unique to that employee. 3.This entry (object) will have other details(profile) of the employee as its properties. 4.You can use the unique id you create to look for that particular employee from your webpage. I hope i understand your question correctly: How do i delete records from a database, based on a form where i use checkboxes to indicate which records have to be deleted. I did this with a list converter (table html is left out) <form action=throw_away_script method=post> <dtml-in expr="SQL_from_useraccount(user_id=REQUEST['user_id'])"> <input type="checkbox" name="throw_away_list:list" value="<dtml-var user_id>"> </dtml-in> </form> throw_away_script is a python script that looks like this: request = container.REQUEST throw_away_list=request.throw_away_list for i in throw_away_list: context.SQL_throw_away_onerecord(user_id=i) The SQL_throw_away_onerecord query is probably not the problem, just deletes 1 record. My question is how do I pass the all the values from one or more rows to a python script based on whether or not the box is checked. I've tried several combinations of using record(s) converters and list converters but at this point I'm stumped. Python script/security help

Greetings Zopistas! Currently, I'm having problems with a python script. Let me describe the situation. I have a product (Member) which has a number of properties. These properties are themselves instances of a Property class. The Property class only has getValue() and setValue() methods. Thus, in order to get the member's first name, I can use the following syntax: myMember.fname.getValue() The getValue() method is declared as public with the following syntax: security = ClassSecurityInfo() security.declarePublic('getValue') def getValue(self): """returns the value of this property""" return self.value I can call the fname.getValue() method from another method of my member object. The problem is that when I attempt to call the fname.getValue() method from a python script, I am prompted for my password and then am given an error: "Unauthorized: getValue" I think that I'm missing something important related to python script security, but haven't been able to determine what it is. Again: searching booleans

Please, let me know if i'm not being clear ... or something. Dear all, Even though it seems so basic, I could't find a single reference to this problem. I'm trying to list some objects of a given meta_type based on some booleans they *might* have. For example: <dtml-in "Catalog.searchResults({'meta_type':'whatever','published':'1'})"> While a missing boolean property (always?) means "off", there's often arbitrary values when in "on" state, mainly depending on how the input was set in the form. So the question is: how should the query be set to bring only those items that DO have a certain property? Thanx, Pablo
