Re: [ZPT] Is PageTemplates doing xhtml conversion? Should it?
by Geir Bækholt 29 Aug '01

Hello John, I have some related issues, which i am kind of puzzled by, as the original spec of ZPT was to go fro XHTML altogether IIRC: Is is not currently possible to create what are single attributes in "old-style-html" (selected, checked etc..) as correct XHTML (selected="selected") with tal:attributes.. if it also breaks onchange and its likes , i think we need to find a way to coerce it into using the XML-parser for XHTML, but still serve the pages with content-type text/html, to keep it working in most browsers. We have almost completely ditched DTML in favor of Page Templates, but as long as it is not possible to create proper XHTML with them , i consider them partially broken. hmm.. i actually think XHTML should be the default these days, with a "pre-html4.01-mode" for those going old-style.... :-) Wednesday, August 29, 2001, 15:28:47, you wrote: JM> I've been playing around with HTML tidy[1], using it to test some page JM> templates that are part of a skin for a CMF product I've written. RE: [Zope] printable page
by Peter Borocz 29 Aug '01

I also saw that on Zope pages and then spent way too much time trying to find out how to do it from mailing lists etc. when I had the same epiphany that you did that simply "stripping" the navigation out of the standalone dtml-doc/methods would do it for my entire site. Thus, here's the link that I cobbled together that's in my standard html_footer (in this case, I use pp as the variable instead of printable as I thought that "might" be the standard): <a href="&dtml-URL0;?&dtml-QUERY_STRING;&pp=1"> <img src="zImages/printable" border="0" alt="printer-friendly version"> </a> I can't vouch for the "Zope" correctness of the URL variable though it seems to work for me. Cheers Peter Borocz -----Original Message----- From: Jan Ulrich Hasecke [mailto:janulrich.hasecke@web.de] Sent: Wednesday, August 29, 2001 7:03 AM To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: [Zope] printable page Hi, I saw that on zope.org you can get printable pages. How are they generated? I also want to integrate printable pages in my project. I want to do this by changing the standard_html_header. I would insert in standard_html_header something like this: <dtml-if expr="printable"> <html> <head> print-stylesheet <body> <dtml-else> <html> <head> screen-stylesheet <body> ...complex navigation </dtml-if> Similar in standard_html_footer. What would be the right if-construction and how can I set the condition "printable" dynamically from inside the given DTMLDocument. The Document should have a button or link which sets the condition printable while loading itself again. I'm not sure whether anyone else is interested, but I just came across this: http://www.vcdn.org/Public/XMLRPC/ Basically it's an implementation of XMLRPc in Javascript, it works well so far, you can update parts of your page without having to request the whole lot. Intersting. Phil

Looking for Zope programmer
by Jason Cunliffe 29 Aug '01

29 Aug '01

Hello I am looking for a Zope/Python programmer in New York area to work with me creating a small site promoting and distributing foreign film and music. Familiarity with catalog essential, and preferably Etailer and the new Zope Page Templates also so we can handle roundtrip workflow and reusable style layout nicely between Dreamweaver and Zope. I will be responsible for visual design and preparation of art .css etc for all pages. Initially, there will be about 100 items in the catalog. The general site graphic design would be along the lines of www.koreanfoodnyc.com ie: sequences of small graphics & video still images for each of the 100 items. The new project should ideally use PIL-based modules such as the Photo product to streamline upload and maintenance using auto-thumnbailing, naming etc. - Jason

security.declarePrivate allows access to all authenticated users
by Itai Tavor 29 Aug '01

Hi, I got the following class: from AccessControl import ClassSecurityInfo from Products.ZPatterns.Specialists import Specialist import Globals class MyClass(Specialist): security = ClassSecurityInfo() security.declarePrivate('test') def test(self): return 'test' Globals.InitializeClass(MyClass) Foolish old trusting me thought that 'test' would not be accessible from restricted code. And it really isn't accessible to anonymous users, but is freely accessible to all authenticated users. Why? -- -- Itai Tavor -- "Je sautille, donc je suis." -- itai(a)optusnet.com.au -- - Kermit the Frog -- -- -- -- "If you haven't got your health, you haven't got anything" --

Has anyone else experienced Zope shutting down automatically? I can't seem to trace when it happens, but it seems to just shut down after a few hours.....Is there a log file kept anywhere? Thanks! Aaron.

Exporting an URL with a file extension from a product
by Gregory Popovitch 29 Aug '01

29 Aug '01

Hi All, I'm quite a novice with Zope, and I'm working on a product which exports a style sheet(which is computed, so it can't be a static file). If the URL (and the python function name) is 'stylesheet', it works fine in IE but the style sheet is not cached by Netscape. I believe that the URL in the LINK tag needs to have an extension of .css to be cached by Netscape, but I would be happy to hear otherwise. How can I export an URL named "stylesheet.css" from a python product? gregory
