ZClass views and manage_ methods
by Lee Harr 29 Aug '01

29 Aug '01

Hi: I have just been hit with ZClass fever. I am digging it! I found that I can create methods in my ZClass and then use those methods for different management views. One thing that is cool on these methods is to include <dtml-var manage_tabs> What I would also like is to be able to include that next set of stuff that is in manage_main, most especially the select box that seems to have something to do with filtered_meta_types. Can I get that one from my ZClass dtml methods? _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp

Persistent dictionaries
by Thomas Olsen 29 Aug '01

29 Aug '01

Hi I'm working on a CMF Product which is based on PortalFolder and PortalContent. This Folderish object contains some items which inherits from OFS.SimpleItem.Item, Persistence.Persistent and Aquisition.Implicit. These items have (had) some properties which are speciel to their class. In order to get around the problem with adding new attributes and having instantiated objects which doesn't have the attributes I decided to keep the attributes in a dictionary. So in my base class I did: ---snip-------------------------------------------- class AbstractElement(Persistent, Item, Implicit): """ Abstract base class for Element objects. """ _attributes = PersistentMapping() def __getattr__(self, name): if self._attributes.has_key(name): return self._attributes[name] else: raise AttributeError, name ---snip-------------------------------------------- and my derived classes look something like this: ---snip-------------------------------------------- class TextElement(AbstractElement): """ text element. """ meta_type = 'Text Element' def __init__(self, id): self.id = id self._attributes = {'value':'','html':'','alignment':''} def edit(self, value, html, alignment): """ Update the properties """ self._attributes['alignment'] = str(alignment) self._attributes['value'] = str(value) self._attributes['html'] = utils._format_stx(self.value) ---snip-------------------------------------------- It works great - until the object gets unloaded from the memory :-( What am I doing wrong? -- Regards, Thomas Olsen http://www.tanghus.dk

RE: [Zope] Zope periodically shutting down....
by Meilicke, Scott 29 Aug '01

Look in the log file to see what happened last - it's ./var/Z2.log You can also start zope with the -D flag, and keep a console running to watch the debug information. Yet another option is to use the set_stupid_log option - that may not be right - search the archives for something similar. Has anyone else experienced Zope shutting down automatically? I can't seem to trace when it happens, but it seems to just shut down after a few hours.....Is there a log file kept anywhere? Thanks! Looking for Zope application
by David Scott Lee 29 Aug '01

29 Aug '01

I'm looking for an job search/matching application that will run under Zope, similar in nature to what monster.com provides. We want a website that allows students to fill out a profile, upload their resume, search for employers etc., and likewise allows employers to fill out a profile and search for students that meet their qualifications, all the while keeping the information confidential. A reporting capability for various statistics is also a need. Is there any such application available for Zope? Thanks. Scott Lee Engineering Computer Network Purdue University

Beta 2 release of Zope on MacOSX (GUI) out
by David Shaw 29 Aug '01

29 Aug '01

I stuffed and uploaded a new release (b2) of my GUI frontended release of Zope 2.4 for MacOSX. It is a complete Zope install, with python and a Mac frontend, plus ZEO, the Zope Book HTML, and some of the more popular packages preinstalled. You can download it here: screenshots: http://homepage.mac.com/dshaw/ download: http://homepage.mac.com/osx/ This is the first release worthy of really using, so let me know you you think! - David Shaw

String contains only digits
by Kerekes Lajos 29 Aug '01

29 Aug '01

Hi! I have a form variable (select/option) which gives a number, or value "A". I have to check the value, is it contains only digits. I use in python script "if container.REQUEST.state in '0123456789'". Is there any other way to check? Because string object has neither "isdecimal", "isdigit" nor "isnumeric" method. I use zope 2.3.3 under Linux. Thanks: Lajos Kerekes

Two newbie questions: port numbers, multi-user systems
by Fred Riley 29 Aug '01

29 Aug '01

That's a subject line that probably gets regulars groaning, I'll bet ;-) Anyway, I've just joined this list, after being convinced of the merits of Zope to both run websites and query ODBC databases. I've installed Zope on a NT box I run and have been experimenting with it and reading TFM (or rather, the Zope Book). It works fine, and I really like the interface and the heap of Zope features, but there are two things I need to sort out before I fully commit myself to using Zope: Port number in URLs ------------------- Because Zope runs off port 8080, this port number appears in URLs (eg http://language.hull.ac.uk:8080/) Like everyone else, I'd like this not to happen, but the solution in the Zope FAQ to FAQ 2.4 isn't suitable because the NT box is also running other web services (such as ASP scripts to query databases, eg as called from http://www.lang.ltsn.ac.uk/events/eventsdb.html) and if I change the port to 80 in the z2.py then of course Zope 'takes over' the server from IIS. I ran this problem past a web developers list, and the two main solutions suggested were: 1. Install Apache on the NT box, move IIS to another port, and set up a proxy in the Apache config. 2. Set up a second IP address for the NT box and host Zope on that. Neither of these are suitable (I won't bore everyone with the reasons), and it seems a bit strange to me that there isn't a simpler solution for integrating IIS with Zope. Does anyone have any suggestions? Zope on multi-user systems -------------------------- Here at Hull the main campus system is a multi-user Unix environment. I'm meeting the sysadmin of this tomorrow to talk about ships and sails and sealing wax, and I want to ask him to install Zope on the system so that I can run Zope-powered websites in ordinary user accounts. (I particularly want to move www.lang.ltsn.ac.uk, which runs from a user account, to Zope as the content's getting unmanageable.) Is it feasible to run such websites from user accounts? And what do I need to ask him to do, both in terms of installation and setting up Zope sites in user accounts? TIA for any help. I really do want to use Zope, both for my sake to reduce mine and my colleague's workload, and to support Open Source software in general. So far, though, I've spent over a day on the port number thing alone, and I'm worrying that I might have to spend more time learning and configuring Zope than I save. Cheers Fred PS: Where on earth does the name Zope come from? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fred Riley Email: f.h.riley(a)selc.hull.ac.uk Web Developer Tel: 01482 466316 C&IT Centre, Language Institute http://www.hull.ac.uk/php/ccsfhr/fhr.html University of Hull, Hull, UK ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Modifying DateTime.py to include additional timezones
by Richard Ettema 29 Aug '01

29 Aug '01

Hi, Can someone explain the layout/use of the timezone lists in DateTime.py or point me in the direction of a how-to etc. I would like to understand the layout of the _zlst and _zmap listings, and how to add new locations to it including Daylight Savings. What do these relate to and stand for... 'UT','BST','MEST','SST','FST','WADT','EADT','NZDT', 'WET','WAT','AT','AST','NT','IDLW','CET','MET'...etc Some of them I can recognise like New Zealand Std Time (NZST) but others aren't. Is there some reason these aren't provided with a full description like the list above it with... 'Brazil/Acre','Brazil/DeNoronha','Brazil/East', 'Brazil/West','Canada/Atlantic'....etc The same question for the Australian timezones... 'aest':'GMT+1000', 'aedt':'GMT+1100', 'aus eastern standard time':'GMT+1000', 'sydney standard time':'GMT+1000'...etc Thanks for any help. Richard
