Can ObjectManager be added as a base class AFTER you have created the zClass?

I am new to Zope so this may be well documented. I just cant find it... I have several existing zClasses that I now want to retrofit with "images". -Trevor

RE: [Zope] ZClass views and manage_ methods

I have been searching for 2 days for >an >answer to migrate a large zClass to a newer and more complex object model. >It looks like I will cozy up with cut-and-paste. > > > What do people do regarding conversion from old to new ZClasses? Yuk. That is one reason I considered developing my class to use an RDBMS instead of going with the straight object model. I know I can shove the data around pretty easily inside of postgres but it seems maybe the tools to do this are not quite as mature on the object database level yet. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp

I am sure someone with more experience will correct me if this is not true. On a related note, I am somewhat concerned about the development of ZClasses and what happens when I need to make some radical change that may not propogate well to older instances. What do people do regarding conversion from old to new ZClasses? _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp

Packaging a Zope app
by Anders Schneiderman 28 Aug '01

28 Aug '01

Hi All, I'd like to be able to use Zope as a means of helping some of our locals on the client side (rather than using, say, Python & Qt or Tk or wxpython), and I have a question about it. What's the easiest way to set it up so that the person who's installing it doesn't have much work to do? Ideally, I'd like for them to download Zope & install it, which is pretty easy, then download my app, click a button, and have my app installed into Zope. Any suggestions? Thanks, Anders Schneiderman Information Manager SEIU International P.S. I'm assuming that on the client side they'll be using some version of Windows--95, 98, or 2000.

IE & DreamWeaver Timing Out on ls
by Chris Humphries 28 Aug '01

Hello Zope-a-tiers, With IE and Dreamweaver, I keep getting timeouts on the directory listing after they login. It seems to be a windows client issue i thought, as on my freebsd workstation it is as fast as lightning. Here is what is running: Zope Version: Zope 2.3.2 (source release, python 1.5.2, linux2) Python Version: 1.5.2 (#1, May 22 2001, 15:55:27) [GCC egcs-2.91.66 19990314/Linux (egcs- System Platform: linux2 Ftp Server: Medusa Async V1.13 These errors do not make any sence, well at least to me now. I mean the server is obviously working, and I, of course, thought it was a client issue. Yet the error is the same on all the win2k pro workstations I try this from, so I am thinking it is a bigger problem, though I may be wrong :) Any help with this would greatly be appreciated, and I thank you in advance. BTW, I am working with rdmurray on a full e-com zope production site, using the above and pgsql. Thanks, Chris Humphries Systems/Network Administrator CD3 Storage Systems, Inc.

RE: [Zope] CVS/VSS - how are others doing it?

Never mind about the skins comment, it's better to use my own skin, copy the file(s) I want to modify into my skin, and put my skin ahead of the default in the skin tool. My head wasn't screwed on right for a minute... OK, I think I can live with that. A few more questions/thoughts: If I wanted to use a custom header in a subfolder, I could either use a different name, or use a redirect. i.e. all my pages within the subfolder call standard_html_header, and that in turn is a method within the subfolder that calls subfolder_html_header within the skin(s), similar in concept to how Zwiki redirects index_html to FrontPage. Valid so far? Is it feasible/wise to use a different skin for each subfolder I want to do this with instead? When modifying an existing file within a skin: I would use VSS/CVS to make the modification. When a new version of the CMF comes out, I do a diff between what I have and what is in the new CMF, and then deal with file merging - standard stuff. Regarding properties within the database, that shouldn't be a problem - that's how it's done with RDBMs anyway... Ah... My creaky mind is barely coming up with the memory of this on the list in the Spring time? So the idea is to keep skins on the file system, and you can then do check in/out from there. So all of your "code" is kept within skins? But what about using custom files like header and footers for a specific section of the site? Also, I have used properties of folders in the site to handle 'variables'. What are the best practices in that case? Maybe Shane could russle up a standaloen version for you DTML/PythonScripts? cheers, Chris
