Acquiring parent objects through BTrees
by Joseph Barillari 15 Aug '01

15 Aug '01

Hello, I would like to know if it is possible for an object stored in a BTree to use acquisition to see its parent object (either the BTree itself or the object that holds the BTree). Here's an example of what I've tried: Python 2.1.1 (#1, Jul 29 2001, 19:04:01) [GCC 2.96 20000731 (Red Hat Linux 7.1 2.96-85)] on linux2 Type "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information. >>> from Acquisition import Implicit >>> from BTree import BTree >>> >>> class A(Implicit): ... pass ... >>> class B(Implicit): ... pass ... >>> class D(Implicit, BTree): ... pass ... >>> a = A() >>> >>> a.d = D() >>> a.d <D instance at 8118330> >>> a.d.aq_parent <A instance at 8114c28> >>> a.d[1] = B() >>> a.d[1] <B instance at 8114c18> >>> a.d[1].aq_parent Traceback (most recent call last): File "<stdin>", line 1, in ? AttributeError: aq_parent The Acquisition machinery has no problem with the regular objects. Class D, which wraps a BTree and implicit acquisition, lets the BTree see its parents, but an acquisition-enabled object placed in an acquisition-enabled BTree still can't see its parent. Any suggestions? Or is this a bad idea? Should I implement another mechanism? The number of objects stored in the BTrees in the final product is unlikely to be more than a few hundred, so another data type might work. Thanks, Joe

solaris and zope
by Jason Witt 15 Aug '01

15 Aug '01

hi, I looking for anyone who has worked with zope on solaris 8. The problem I am having is that it runs super slow. I have compiled everything from source using cc to get the 64bit optimizations. Right now I have been benchmarking against just ZServer with no Apache between. No matter what I do I cannot seem to get the install up the speed it should be on Sun a E-250 with dual processors and 2 GB of ram. What's worse is that the same site that runs so slow on solaris flys on a Linux (redhat 7.1) box. The hardware is comparable (dual 700 mhz, 2 GB ram), but the benchmarks are about 2 times faster everytime. Any ideas why Linux is so much better than solaris?? thanks, ******************************************************** * Jason Witt Java and Web Services - ADCS * * Web Developer University of Minnesota, Mpls * * Systems Administrator 190 Shepherd Laboratories * * jdwitt(a)umn.edu Ph. 612-626-8663 * ********************************************************

Re: [Zope-dev] Finding specific parent object with acquisition ?

Or do I have to program this manually by repeatly calling > the aq_parent method until I find an instance of 'ProductA' ? In DTML, you have two orthogonal lookup facilities: acquisition and the DTML namespace. When you are in your "DTMLDoc1", the namespace is only weakly used to find "ProductA". The primary work is done by acquisition. Unless you are in a class constructor, you can also rely on acquisition inside a product (when it subclasses "Acquisition.Implicit"). For example in a "ProductB" instance, you could use "self.ProductA" to access the "ProductA" instance depicted in your folder structure. property:date
by Giuseppe Bonelli 15 Aug '01

Hi all, as a complete newby to Zope and Phyton (but with some background in (web) programming (-;) I spent the last week developing (to my great satisfaction and (Z)hope) my first Zope apps; it is up&running but I got stucked in a problem, that I am sure is a trivial one for you out there. I went through the docs (Zope, Phyton, FAQs, ZopeBook, HowTos, comments in phyton sources, you name it !!), I learned a lot, but the problem is still a problem (at least for me). Here is my Zope.problem.present: I want to use a date property to store a user entered date into a ZClass property; the date must be entered in "%d/%m/%&y" format (I am from Europe (-;)). Simple, isn't ? The idea was: 1. go to the management GUI and add a my_date property to the ZClass 2. use a format string as the value for the property 3. use name="mydate:date" in the relevant form 4. let Zope do the conversion ... The reality is: I cannot even accomplish step 2! Whatever I enter in the value field for the property for the ZClass (apart from an actual date which is readly converted in yyyy/mm/dd format), Zope complains about an 'Invalid Date-Time String'. For the time beeing, I can live with a string property and maybe some client-side Jscript, but I know it must be brain-dead simple... ... so, please, any pointer in the right direction would be _deeply_ appreciated. Thanks in advance, --peppo PS: I am really impressed about Zope/Phyton (or Phyton/Zope ...?)

Can java works along with Zope? or Can java code running inside the zope server? if it's possibe or Zope can do that. HOW? Thanks __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Hi: I'm trying to create a file system with access control, however when I login as some who shouldn't see everything I still do. Here's my code: <dtml-var standard_html_header> <h2>Test Site</h2> <dtml-tree folders branches_expr="objectValues()" sort=title_or_id single=1 nowrap=0 skip_unauthorized=1> <dtml-if "meta_type=='Folder'"> <IMG SRC="<dtml-var icon>" BORDER=0> <dtml-var title_or_id> <dtml-else> <A HREF="folders/<dtml-var tree-item-url>"> <IMG SRC="<dtml-var icon>" BORDER=0> <dtml-var title_or_id></A> </dtml-if> </dtml-tree> <p> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> Also why does the User Folders always show up. Creating ZClass from Python Script
by Chris Bruce 15 Aug '01

15 Aug '01

I looked through the archives but could find something specific to my scenario. How would you create a ZClass programatically from an external python method with only the ZClass name as string? Is that even possible? I am trying to write an external method that can import a csv file into a ZClass that you specify. I am pretty close, but getting hung up on how to create the ZClass? Thanks in advance. Chris
