It's a way of expressing some basic markup w/o any HTML. (The Zope Book covers this). With Structured Text, you can contol bold, italics, links, tables, etc., so it might be more power than you want, *plus* structured-text doesn't filter out actual html commands (which is normally a good thing, so that you can hedge in a tiny bit of html that there isn't a structured-text equivalent.) If you want people to provide basic content (aka sentences, paragrpahs, bold, italics, nothing else), you could run their input through a python regular expression that turns *hello* to italics, **hello** to bold, and nothing else. (Or if your users know HTML, turns leaves and alone, and nukes all other HTML tags. Check out the Strip-O-Gram. I haven't used it, but it might be what you want. http://www.zope.org/Members/chrisw/StripOGram -- Joel Burton <jburton(a)scw.org> Director of Information Systems, Support Center of Washington

WYSIWYG HTML Editor Tutorial Link
by paul_s_johnson＠urscorp.com 23 Jul '01

There has been some discussion on WYSIWYG HTML editors lately. I found this link to a tutorial on embedding one in a page using IE 4.0+. It's quick and lightweight - might be just the right thing for certain applications. Here it is for Zopista consumption. http://www.insidedhtml.com/tips/contents/ts12/page1.asp P. Johnson

Patch to make Xron work under Zope 2.4.0
by Hamish Bruce Lawson 23 Jul '01

The Xron scheduler product tries to import DateTime from Globals, but under Zope 2.4.0 it is not available from Globals and must instead be imported directly from DateTime. The attached patch fixes this: Hamish Lawson *** zopesite/Products/Xron/Dispatcher.py Mon Jul 23 21:10:33 2001 --- zopesite2/Products/Xron/Dispatcher.py Mon Jul 23 17:18:20 2001 *************** *** 38,44 **** loggerr=Loggerr.loggerr #import pdb; pdb.set_trace() ! from Globals import DateTime import sys, string maxwait=float(10) # max time to wait between wake-ups in seconds --- 38,44 ---- loggerr=Loggerr.loggerr #import pdb; pdb.set_trace() ! from DateTime import DateTime import sys, string maxwait=float(10) # max time to wait between wake-ups in seconds *** zopesite/Products/Xron/XronDTMLMethod.py Mon Jul 23 21:10:50 2001 --- zopesite2/Products/Xron/XronDTMLMethod.py Mon Jul 23 17:19:12 2001 *************** *** 28,34 **** ##################################################################### """ Scheduled DTML Methods for Xron """ ! from Globals import HTMLFile, default__class_init__, DateTime from OFS.DTMLMethod import DTMLMethod from Products.ZCatalog.CatalogAwareness import CatalogAware from urllib import quote --- 28,35 ---- ##################################################################### """ Scheduled DTML Methods for Xron """ ! from Globals import HTMLFile, default__class_init__ ! from DateTime import DateTime from OFS.DTMLMethod import DTMLMethod from Products.ZCatalog.CatalogAwareness import CatalogAware from urllib import quote

Zope Management Interface: Bug of IE?? or Zope Feature
by Sven Hohage 23 Jul '01

23 Jul '01

Hello, in a hand-made ZClass the tabs of 2 of 4 instances show this-->>>> <a href="manage_UndoForm" ----->>>>target="blank" > Undo</a> This means the manage - view opens in a new window! I can't reproduce my behaviour to find a solution (the Classes have got an attribute target but can this mix up Zope??). I use IE 6 (but 4.7 shows the same) on Win 2000 server. Thanks!

Trying to use Vim for remote editing with Zope
by Jean Jordaan 23 Jul '01

23 Jul '01

Hi all I tried out Vim 6 with the 'netrw.vim' plugin to edit files remotely. It works beautifully for editing via ftp, but I did hit a snag .. I want to use it for editing Zope objects. Zope supports this via both ftp and WebDAV. (To support WebDAV from Vim, maybe the 'cadaver' commandline WebDAV client would be useful http://www.webdav.org/cadaver/ ). Anyway, so I do: :e ftp://blommie:10021/standard_html_header edit a document, and save successfully. This is the trace of the successful save in my log: 192.168.3.44357 ==> 220 blommie FTP server (Medusa Async V1.13 [experimental]) ready. 192.168.3.44357 <== USER jean 192.168.3.44357 ==> 331 Password required. 192.168.3.44357 <== PASS <password> 192.168.3.44357 ==> 230 Login successful. 192.168.3.44357 <== TYPE A 192.168.3.44357 ==> 200 Type set to ASCII. 192.168.3.44357 <== PORT 192,168,3,4,17,6 192.168.3.44357 ==> 200 PORT command successful. 192.168.3.44357 <== STOR standard_html_header 192.168.3.44357 ==> 150 Opening ASCII connection for standard_html_header 192.168.3.44357 ==> 226 Transfer complete. 192.168.3.44357 <== QUIT 192.168.3.44357 ==> 221 Goodbye. Then I try to edit a Python script, which is handled a bit differently by Zope: the file returned by ftp starts with a magic comment block which contains the script properties. This is parsed by Zope upon upload. However, this should all be transparent from the ftp point of view. Unfortunately this is not the case: 192.168.3.44395 ==> 220 blommie FTP server (Medusa Async V1.13 [experimental]) ready. 192.168.3.44395 <== USER jean 192.168.3.44395 ==> 331 Password required. 192.168.3.44395 <== PASS <password> 192.168.3.44395 ==> 230 Login successful. 192.168.3.44395 <== TYPE A 192.168.3.44395 ==> 200 Type set to ASCII. 192.168.3.44395 <== PORT 192,168,3,4,17,44 192.168.3.44395 ==> 200 PORT command successful. 192.168.3.44395 <== STOR feko_usa/interface/findUser 192.168.3.44395 ==> 150 Opening ASCII connection for feko_usa/interface/findUser 192.168.3.44395 ==> 426 Error creating file. 192.168.3.44395 <== QUIT 192.168.3.44395 ==> 221 Goodbye. I've also tried (successfully, in the end) with this Vim/Python combination: http://www.zope.org/Members/zxc/vimFTPExplorer which is based on: http://www.freespeech.org/aziz/vim/ which is included in the Vim 6 distribution. In that case, the fix was to change from ASCII-mode transfer to Binary, but that happened in Python: [jean@blommie vim]$ diff ftpExplorer.vim patched-ftpExplorer.vim 144a145,146 > bufname=vim.current.buffer.name > vim.command('echo "Current buffer: %s"' %bufname) 158c160 < ftp.storlines('stor %s' %filename, fi) --- > ftp.storbinary('stor %s' %filename, fi, 8192) I did change 'netrw.vim' to transfer in binary mode, but it didn't help: 192.168.3.44399 ==> 220 blommie FTP server (Medusa Async V1.13 [experimental]) ready. 192.168.3.44399 <== USER jean 192.168.3.44399 ==> 331 Password required. 192.168.3.44399 <== PASS <password> 192.168.3.44399 ==> 230 Login successful. 192.168.3.44399 <== TYPE I 192.168.3.44399 ==> 200 Type set to Binary. 192.168.3.44399 <== PORT 192,168,3,4,17,48 192.168.3.44399 ==> 200 PORT command successful. 192.168.3.44399 <== STOR feko_usa/interface/findUser 192.168.3.44399 ==> 150 Opening Binary connection for feko_usa/interface/findUser 192.168.3.44399 ==> 426 Error creating file. 192.168.3.44399 <== QUIT 192.168.3.44399 ==> 221 Goodbye. Any clues as to how to make everything work? Any chance of making 'explorer.vim' and 'netrw.vim' work transparently together? Regards, Jean

FW: [Zope] Using Zope
by Todd Cranston-Cuebas 23 Jul '01

Joel, Can you define what you mean by "structured text?" I'm always running into situations where I don't want to give someone any control other than control over the copy. They want to put in bolding, italics, etc., but beyond that I don't want to let them do anything else. Will structured text do the trick and if so, how does one implement this? Todd -----Original Message----- From: Joel Burton [mailto:jburton@scw.org] Sent: Thursday, July 19, 2001 4:47 PM To: Jen Cc: zope(a)zope.org Subject: Re: [Zope] Using Zope On Thu, 19 Jul 2001, Jen wrote: > > Hello: > > I've been given the task of exploring the use of Zope for a department that we support. I have just been going through some of the manuals and online documentation. The creation of pages seems very basic and understandable from my viewpoint. However, the material I have found doesn't seem to address the use of Zope by non-HTML/basic scripting literate people (or at least how to develope a framework for non-web literate people to use). The department that we have in mind couldn't tell a tag from an <ol> tag. They have only ever used a WYSIWYG interface. My question is, does anyone know where I can find information or a "tutorial" on how to create a framework like this? So that your average secretary can just update the actual text of the page much like in a WYSIWYG editor fashion? Or are we better suited by a different product? Two different scenarios: * Zope can upload/download document via WebDAV and FTP, and there are free add-ins that will let someone design a web page in FrontPage or DreamWeaver, and once it's added (via these program's FTP/WebDav interface), sets it up correctly. or * Zope can use "structured-text", which is a way for non-HTML-designers to make simple pages. They don't have to know anything about HTML to do so. You can't design a complicated web page w/lots of formatting, images, etc. w/structured text, but it's perfect for users to enter descriptions, biographies, etc., while still getting to bold text, italicize text, make lists, etc. > Thank you! > > Jenny You're welcome. VirtualSite/SiteRoot
by Jason C. Leach 23 Jul '01

23 Jul '01

hi, I have a few virtual sites on one Zope server w/ Apache in front. I some times end up with: www.mysite.com/sitedocs/sitedocs/sitedocs/.. It just keeps appending a sitedocs for some things I do on the site. The site works, no matter how many get appended, but to a user it probably looks redundant and convoluted. Any comments on how to stop Apache or Zope for doing this? Thanks, j. -- ...................... ..... Jason C. Leach ..

I think that might be an overstatement; yes, its slick and promotional, but I found that the new zope.com site has lots of useful stuff from the perspective of selling management on Zope, which is useful to some folks like myself - well, that and the Zope T-Shirts I'm going to try to pick up at OSCON ;) Sean -----Original Message----- From: Ausum [mailto:augusto@artlover.com] Sent: Monday, July 23, 2001 10:43 AM To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: Re: [Zope] FYI: DC -> ZC, plus 2.4 released Gosh! How to avoid the inheritance of DTMLDocuments?
by Philipp Robbel 23 Jul '01

23 Jul '01

Hi everyone, I've run into a problem. I originally thought that only DTMLMethods would be inherited over the directory structure, i.e. a index_html method in the root folder would be available in the subfolders. But now I have the following problem that also DTMLDocuments are inherited! This destroys a bit my application logic, as outlined below: The customers have there own subfolder on the Zope Server where they can upload their HTML (!) documents. In the Zope root folder I have the following DTMLMethod index_html which is supposed to be inherited to the customer's subfolder: <dtml-if index.html><dtml-var index.html><dtml-elif index.htm><dtml-var index.htm><dtml-else><dtml-var header>The <dtml-var "title_or_id()"> site is not yet available.<dtml-var footer></dtml-if> The problem is however that the index.htm DTMLDocument (!) is also inherited to the customer's subfolder so that the "The site is not yet available" part is never executed :-( Is there a switch to avoid the inheritance of DTMLDocuments to a specific folder (i.e. in my case there's /pool/empl1, /pool/empl2 etc.) that i could set in the /pool folder in my case? Thanks again for your help and support, Philipp
