HTMLDocument and CatalogAwareness
by Philipp Robbel 23 Jul '01

23 Jul '01

Hi fellow Zopers, I have one question regarding the CatalogAwareness of sf's HTMLDocument product ( http://www.zope.org/Members/sf/HTMLDocument) As I have checked this Program, it supports Zope's ZCatalog. But I have a major Problem with it: if you create a HTMLDocument and change it afterwards, the catalog does not get updated with the changed data. In contrary to the DTMLDocumentExt product ( http://www.zope.org/Members/Kaivo/DTMLDocumentExt) which does this job very well. Since I'm not that good python programmer I would love it if someone could implement that complete Catalog Support into HTMLDocument. I already wrote two Emails to the creator but so far he has not answered. So again: if there's someone out there who could quickly browse through the source and make a solution public, I'd love to hear from it :-) Thanks in advance for your incredible support, Philipp Robbel

RE: Netscape doesn't recognize dtml-doc as html
by Ausum 23 Jul '01

You don't need to do anything, except to ensure yourself that your html is right. That means at least to have the 'html' and 'body' tags placed properly within your header/footer, if you use them. (Actually I don't need to do this, except for the embeded javascript to work) Now, if what you want is to show off the dtml instead of rendering it (an entirely different thing), you must use PrincipiaSearchSource: Place at the root a dtml method with id 'show_source' containing the following line: <dtml-var PrincipiaSearchSource html_quote > Now, to see the source of any dtml, you use: http://www.website.com/some_dtml/show_source Notice you need to have the right permission. Manager Header
by Chris Bruce 23 Jul '01

I read somewhere that there is a management header. I created a custom form for adding properties and I want to include the correct header. Can anyone tell me what it is? DNS lookup problem with urllib in external methods
by oivvio polite 23 Jul '01

23 Jul '01

Have anyone seen this strange behavior. urllib.urlget("http://some-url") works perfectly well from a regular python script. The the same line will produce an Error Type: IOError Error Value: [Errno socket error] host not found when called from an external zope method. However urllib.urlget("http://some-ipnumber") will work fine in that same external method. Any ideas? Does zope use some special dns settings? oivvio -- oivvio polite cell +46 (0)709 30 40 30 / phone +46 (0)8 669 64 18 / fax +46 (0)8 84 00 18 varvsgatan 10A / s-117 29 stockholm / sweden

ZClass and Product migration issues
by Tom Cameron 23 Jul '01

23 Jul '01

I am starting to experiment with ZClasses, and hopefully eventually Products in Python. I am wondering how easy it is to migrate at a later date. If I were to create a ZClass based Product and start using it extensively, how easy would it be to migrate to a full Python Product at a later date? If the two have identical or similar methods, is there a way to change the instances over to the new product.? Similarly, if I subclass standard Zope objects like folders and documents, am I likely to have problems in the future with new versions of Zope? In any case I am expecting that the Product will be continually evolving. How are instances affected when new versions of products are installed? I am not too familiar with this stuff and dont want to work my way down the wrong path. Tom

Zope process dies without notice
by Gilles Lenfant 23 Jul '01

23 Jul '01

Hi, Sometimes, the Zope server dies (Zope 2.3.3 / Debian 2.2) . I don't know why and Z2.log does not say anything (just shows the last published object) I can't see any trace of that in the usual system log files. When restarting Zope, there is no special message (no damage to data.fs) Any clue to help me to know the reason of this, where can I search for useful information ? TIA --Gilles

Functions in a python script
by Gilles Lenfant 23 Jul '01

23 Jul '01

Hi, I found a strange behaviour for a small script that runs correctly in pure Python: == SNIP == foo = 'a great text' def bar(): # error below return foo return bar() ==/SNIP== It makes a "NameError" on "foo" !!! If the first line of bar() is "global foo", this does not change anything. How to use python functions inside Zope python scripts ? Is it reserved for External methods ? Should I provide all "globals" as arguments to the function ?

Installing Zope sorry about the html previously.
by HisNibs 23 Jul '01

23 Jul '01

Windows NT 4.0 I have installed version 2.3.3 of Zope and cannot seem to get permissions set for users to have remote access to editing / creating files or using/managing products. When I log in remotely, I get access to the left frame functions like control panel, but do not have access to any of the content functions, including adding and deleting foders / products. This Zope version also starts up differently, without the Zserver Monitor and does not have the usual ACCESS.txt file. (have I entered the Twilight Zone) I haven't found any documentation on these changes. Can someone describe to me what I am overlooking in the new release that prevents me from allowing remote users access to zope? Currently I only have full access by logging in to localhost. I cannot even manage a squishdot.....remotely. Thank you J. Michael Mc Kay

What version of IE are you using(I love to assume IE is the problem :)? What happens when you visit http://server/manage_workspace ? What was in ACCESS.txt? Are you thinking of inituser and access? More questions...
