The field in the table is referenced as > "e.deptno" is > fine--but that's the name of the parameter for the ZSQL > method. To make is > clearer: The problem is that I need to use the following dtml statement to make the parameter optional: <dtml-sqltest e.deptno op=eq type=int optional> I can't use 'deptno' as the name, because the then the db doesn't know which deptno column I want to filter on. So then I need to use 'e.deptno' as the parameter name. The 'dictionary' syntax you suggested for the <dtml-in> statement made it accept the e.deptno as a parameter. So now I use this: <dtml-in expr="emp_list({'e.deptno':10})"> which works like a charm. Thanks alot. Ernst Eeldert PS. this little conversation between Joel and can be seen as 1 vote against a seperate 'newbie-list'. One thing I have to say to other newbies: if you solve your problem slightly different then was suggested by a guru, don't hesitate to reply with the full solution. This way, we make the mailing list an even more valuable resource for other newbies.

How to keep table aliases apart in an ZSQL method
by Ernst Eeldert 20 Jul '01

Hi, I'm having trouble passing a parameter to a ZSQL which uses table aliases. The SQL statement is as follows: select e.empno ,e.ename ,d.dname from emp e ,dept d where e.deptno = d.deptno <sql-group and> <dtml-sqltest e.deptno op=eq type=int optional </sql-group> Now, this isn't working on two points: 1. the <sql-group and> is my own idea, and doesn't work (apparently :) 2. when I put a snippet like <dtml-in expr="emp_list(e.deptno=deptno)"> <li><dtml-var ename> </dtml-in> into an DTML-method, I get the following error: Error Value: keyword can't be an expression Maybe I'm trying to solve 2 seperate problems at the same time, but then again, I still am a very newbie. Thanks for your suggestions. Ernst Eeldert

The other stuff might be something like a weekly newsletter with a step-by-step guide on how to solve some common fundamental problem (like getting Zope to print dates in various formats, etc.). This would give the newbie something to chew on for a week. They could store it up on a web site for a reference list, and it wouldn't be considered spam. The nice thing about it is that once you have a cadre of articles, you just (re)circulate the same ones ala Parents magazine. Ron

> ....or is this list EXTREMELY unfriendly to new users? The learning curve on Zope is rather daungting. That doesn't help. Once you start getting Zope, you put some serious distance between the you and the newbies. The learning curve is less linear and more like a band-pass filter. That makes Zope look harder for newbies than it really is. As you might recall, we had a debate on this list regaring whether or not to create a ZopeNewbies list. Back then I was against it. But your observation (along with mine) has prompted me to reevaluate my earlier negative opinion. Linux-Mandrake has a separate Newbie and Expert list. There wouldn't be any harm in subscribing to BOTH lists. Moreover, a periodic FAQ could be mailed out on the list with all the newbie type questions we see so often (and perhaps forget ourselves from time to time). Just my $0.02. The > Zope book (online) should be able to clarify that. > I've tried it with type string for my color property: Does NOT work. But I noticed that not the property tab of the created article is shown in the management interface, but the property tab of its folder, altough the url is correct. Seems to me as Zope tries first to get 'manage_propertiesForm' from my article and then (because the attribute is not found) from the folder. But why doesn't Zope find the attribute in the class Article? Article is derived from PropertyManager, and PropertyManager defines an attribute called 'manage_propertiesForm. Any suggestions? Python trouble?
by Seamus M. O'Keefe 20 Jul '01

I've just installed Zope, but when I begin the tutorial, it seems as if some words and link names have been replaced with letters and odd characters. For example: "First you need to create a t for the home page." (t is a link in this case) I assume the 't' was supposed to be a link to some key concept or definition. As it is, the tutorial is now useless. I am EXTREMELY new to Zope and would love to get this resolved. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

>The HTMLDocument product (a snap to set up) makes this easy. Ok...I hope you don't mind...I'm sure I'm asking some pretty "simple" questions, but I appreciate your help. I take it that this product then takes out the extra tags from the Dreamweaver file? How do I go about setting it up? Other than the Dreamweaver do we need to purchase anything else? :0) Jen --------------------------------- Do You Yahoo!? Get personalized email addresses from Yahoo!
