XML-RPC from Python
by sean.upton＠uniontrib.com 21 Jul '01

Perhaps this list is the wrong forum for this question, or perhaps it is way premature, but figured I would ask... I was wondering, since XML-RPC is being integrated into the Python 2.2a core library, whether or not it would be a good idea to advoate the idea of extending the XML-RPC library to support basic auth for use with Zope as part of the core xmlrpclib library within Python 2.2? It sure would be nice to have XML-RPC access to auth-protected methods in Zope out of the box. Any thoughts? dtml-newbie question: sql
by Lambert Muhr 21 Jul '01

21 Jul '01

the structure of my zope-site is fully based on relational mysql-tables. I am generating, e.g., submenu-entries by selecting submenu-titel, submenu-id, submenu-text, submenu-image, etc., from the sql-table 'submenu' and inserting them into the page as dtml-variables (with that, I manage to maintain a 4-level sitemap with users editing contents via some simple ms-access-masks). on a specific content page, e.g., the start page of submenu_1, I added a horizontal navigation list like: submenu_1 || submenu_2 || submenu_3 by means of a <dtml-in submenu-sql-method> listing the <dtml-var submenu-titel>'s as well as their url's (traversal sql-methods). now, I want to escape the link-html-tag (<a href>) for that very sequence-item (submenu-entry) which is the one of the current page (e.g., when I am in submenu_2, I want to drop the (<a href>) for the sequence-item submenu_2): submenu_1 || submenu_2 || submenu_3 I tried this by means of a <dtml-unless> around the <a href>-tag, checking whether the current sequence-item is the same as the one the current page is being built on. my problem: how can I - within a dtml-in-tag - check whether the current sequence-item is a specific one: <dtml-var standard_html_header> <p>this is the submenu number <dtml-var submenu_id></p> <p>navigate to any of the submenu-entries at the same level <dtml-in submenu-sql-method> <dtml-unless expr="sm_id == '[current submenu_id]'"><a href="traversal_url"><dtml-unless> <dtml-var submenu-titel> <dtml-unless expr="sm_id == '[current submenu_id]'"></a><dtml-unless> </dtml-in> I tried to set - outside of the dtml-in-tag - a variable using REQUEST: <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('[current submenu_id]',????)"> but it seems I cannot replace ???? by <dtml-var submenu_id> which - content-wise - would be the solution. I would be grateful for any hint. thanks lambert

RE: [Zope] How to keep table aliases apart in an ZSQL method

> I can't use 'deptno' as the name, because the then the db > doesn't know which > deptno column I want to filter on. So then I need to use > 'e.deptno' as the > parameter name. So, I finally found a solution for this problem. There's an attribute of the <sqltest> tag which allows you to specify the column name (<dtml-sqltest param column="e.deptno">). Using that attribute, the name of the method input parameter doesn't has to be the same as the query column name. Ernst

Finding Newest Document
by Chris Withers 20 Jul '01

20 Jul '01

Hi, I have a shedload of File objects all with a dateofpublication property. They are all catalogued an dateofpublication is a FieldIndex. I wonder what the most efficient way to get the article with the newest date of publication is? I had assumed a catalog search as follows would be best: article = Catalog(sort_on='dateofpublication')[0] Can anyone think of a better way? cheers, Chris

STX file issues
by Seamus O'Keefe 20 Jul '01

20 Jul '01

My installation of Zope is having trouble displaying certain words of the .stx files associated with the Tuorial (and presumably all stx files). It seem only the last letter of a such a word (in this case the terms defined in the glossary) gets output. All the StructuredText files and regex modules seem to be in order. I've had some help from list members already, but after running the installation file with both python 1.5 and 2.0, the problem persists. Further help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp

Occasional stop service problems
by dek＠outformations.com 20 Jul '01

20 Jul '01

I have an old client getting a strange error message when they try to stop the Zope service on NT. The message is: Services Could not stop the Zope (Production) service. Error 0109: The pipe has been ended. I believe they are NT 4 SP 6 and the Zope version they have is at least 8 months old. They are also using SQL server 7. Even though the error message indicates that the service cannot be stopped, after I click OK on the error window, the Status column in the Services window goes blank next to Zope (Production) as opposed to "Started." And, the Start button is highlighted rather than the Stop button. One other time this happened I successfully logged onto the website so I suspect the Service is in fact not stopped despite what the Services window indicates. Also, when I have trying to restore a database at this point I have received the error message regarding to the database exclusive access. "Database in Use. the system administrator must have exclusive use of the database to run the restore operation. Backup or restore operation terminating abnormally." The client realized (from Task Manager Process tab) that the process python.exe was still running even the Zope (Production) service had been stopped. They highlighted python.exe and tried to end the process by clicking the End Process button without success. What has worked once before and worked again today is the following: After clicking OK on the Services error message above, I click on the Start button to start Zope again, then click on the Stop button to stop the service. The second time I try to stop the service I do not get an error message and I have no problem restoring gp or starting Zope again. Any help or clues to resolving the issue is much appreciated. Re: [Zope] Is it just me... Other stuff

> > 4. ???? maybe other stuff? Said it before, but this is the place to insert again: A Rosetta page, for ASP, PHP, Perl, etc, to Python. This is how you do this in ASP and/or PHP and/or Perl... and this is how it you do that in Python. Not a snip library for the lazy, but an essential Rosetta Stone, to help the new user to get to the "I Get IT" level more stage more quickly. I was able to "get" enough of what Zope does and how to make it work soon enough to continue using it love it. But I still cannot bangout working dtml code the way I can asp pages. I would really love this Rosetta page. I would contribute to it too. > ------------ Original Message ----------- > From: complaw(a)hal-pc.org <complaw(a)hal-pc.org> > Date: Fri, 20 Jul 2001 20:26:04 GMT > > [Snip] > > May I suggest the following: > [Snip] > > I think it will give new users a good starting point though! > > > > > > 1. SF Based Zope/CMF Mentor Needed for Small Dev Team
by Corin Royal Drummond 20 Jul '01

20 Jul '01

Hey All, If this is off topic, please let me know. I'm looking for a zope/CMF guru located in the Bay Area who can mentor a team of three developers (PHP, Perl, ASP are their backgrounds). We're building a CMS for a public radio station using the CMF, and want some help getting up to speed. We have a limited budget, and the job would not be a lot of hours, maybe 20 or so. Candidates should have strong Zope and CMF experience, good teaching skills and be SF Bay locals. SDO.NET is a six person web developement startup that's just moving into a new office in San Francisco. We are a worker owned collective, and provide technology strategy consulting, web design, and application development for small-to-medium businesses and non-profit groups. We're a pretty laid back and fun group to work with, so I think we could have a good time together. If you're interested, contact me at corinroyal(a)yahoo.com. Cheers, Corin |-Corin Royal Drummond |-Operations Director/Linux Sysadmin |-SDO.NET Web Development Studio
