How should I create an edit form?
by Bruce, Chris 20 Jul '01

20 Jul '01

I have created a zclass to represent online user profiles. I have a property sheet to edit the fields and all works well. But now, I want to create a page (not through management) to allow users to change their own profiles. I am not really sure how I should do the following: Lookup the profile matching the user based on how they are logged in? Show an edit form with the values prepopulated (Can I do this with property sheet somehow)? Any help would be appreciated. Having problems getting Accelerated HTTP Cache Manager to work
by Itai Tavor 20 Jul '01

20 Jul '01

Hi, I'm using Zope 2.3.2 with Apache and Rewrite Rules. I set up caching using mod_proxy with the following settings: CacheRoot "/var/cache/httpd" CacheSize 10240 CacheGcInterval 1 CacheMaxExpire 24 CacheLastModifiedFactor 0.1 CacheDefaultExpire 1 I then added the following to standard_html_header: <dtml-call "RESPONSE.setHeader('Expires', _.DateTime(_.DateTime().timeTime() + 3600).toZone('GMT').rfc822())"> <dtml-call "RESPONSE.setHeader('Last-Modified', bobobase_modification_time().toZone('GMT').rfc822())"> This works fine and everything gets cached. Then I removed the above calls and instead installed an Accelerated HTTP Cache Manager (and associated all my DTML Methods with it). This time no caching took place. I then unncommented the line that sets the Last-Modified header (line 175 in AcceleratedHTTPCacheManager.py). This time caching worked. Several posts on this list indicated that Last-Modified is not required for caching. If that's true, why can't I get caching to work without touching the source? Am I missing anything in my settings or in using the Cache Manager? storing files external from Zopedatabase
by C. Koehler 20 Jul '01

20 Jul '01

regards, how is it possible to upload and store files external from the database of Zope? I've got a lot of pdf-files to store and the maximum of 2GB space isn't fare away then. [Zope can only store 2GB all in all, or not?] so- how do I upload and store files external? [Do I have to define a new product or is there already one?] thx, Christian

CookieUserFolder :top urgent : how to use it?????????
by Gilles Lavaux 20 Jul '01

20 Jul '01

Hello, just an urgent post before the week-end: I have installed the CookieUserFolder product (because he has a version number ==1.0, my philosophy is to install only >=1.0 product) Unfortunately I am not intelligent enough to use it: - there is no help instruction - the normal 'manage' user can not use it - the 'superuser' can use it but the only choices is to add document/methods/script inside. Of course the superuser can not own object in it : 'EmergencyUserCannotOwn' error. - So: I have put a CookieUserFolder in my '/test' folder. Now I can not add things in '/test' anymore. - I think I want to add users first in this CookieUserFolder stuff? no? So how has the receipt? (this look to me like another example of wonderful lack of documentation) thanks Gilles

CMF-Calendar
by Chris Herrnberger 20 Jul '01

20 Jul '01

Greetings all Posted this message earlier to the cmf list but there seems to be little traffic there today, so reposting to the main list. Hope thats ok. Just started playing with CMF again (1.1) after a long hiatus. Its come a long way since the early PTK days. Congrats to all the coders.. I am having problems installing the CMF-Calendar though. Followed the HowTo from http://cmf.zope.org/Members/frankmc/UsingCalendarTag/ and it seems to choke on line 3 of the dateMunger. While there are comments to this on the site there is no solution posted. Using the supplied script from the referenced site. http://cmf.zope.org/Members/andrew/projects/CMFCalendar/dateMunger resluts in the traceback below. Any comments or suggestions would be helpful. Also where is the link to CVS versions or is this locked down to developers only? RE: [Zope] Database Size

Hi, Thats cool, but what I was looking for was to log the increase during a set period of time, and I think the best way was as suggested to use a cronjob. Many thanks for all your advice. RE: [Zope] Macromedia SiteSpring
by sean.upton＠uniontrib.com 20 Jul '01

Frankly, I don't see how a light-weight workflow system like that is really all that Zope-like. It provides, AFAIK, no development environment, no object-database, no access to heterogeneous external data, no content-repository. It provides a "file-server-based approach," which of course means all this product does is workflow and file versioning! If anything, whatever sitespring is, it likely competes with the various content management products for Zope and not Zope itself. And those products provide workflow - however, they also allow you to create custom types of objects, something I am pretty sure you can't easily do in sitespring... My guess is in order to get something like SiteSpring to work with similar functionality, you have to buy CF server, 3 zillion copies of Dreamweaver Ultradev, and every other Macromedia product in existence and you would still only be about 1/3 of the way... Any .com production departments for companies big enough to need something like SiteSpring would be better off using a CMS with a content repository, or use a source-code versioning system instead of a static-file based production management system. Sean -----Original Message----- From: Mario Valente [mailto:mvalente@ruido-visual.pt] Sent: Friday, July 20, 2001 7:18 AM To: Zope Subject: [Zope] Macromedia SiteSpring Hi: Just a quick heads up so that you all are aware of a possible Zope competitor or, if you take a opposing view, to be aware of someone blatantly copying Zope ;-) Macromedia has launched its SiteSpring product which allows you to collaborate, manage and communicate when doing web projects. The site is at http://www.macromedia.com/software/sitespring/ and, if you watch the Quicktime movie or install the demo, even the goddam menus are Zope-alike. Emulation aside, it does raise some issues, namely on the workflow/communicate functionalities. How is Zope going to cope ? Do we have products available that bring Zope up to the same level ? Using Zope
by Jen 20 Jul '01

Hello: I've been given the task of exploring the use of Zope for a department that we support. I have just been going through some of the manuals and online documentation. The creation of pages seems very basic and understandable from my viewpoint. However, the material I have found doesn't seem to address the use of Zope by non-HTML/basic scripting literate people (or at least how to develope a framework for non-web literate people to use). The department that we have in mind couldn't tell a <p> tag from an <ol> tag. They have only ever used a WYSIWYG interface. My question is, does anyone know where I can find information or a "tutorial" on how to create a framework like this? So that your average secretary can just update the actual text of the page much like in a WYSIWYG editor fashion? Or are we better suited by a different product? Thank you!
