a new zope dying
by Tom Hoffman 16 Jul '01

16 Jul '01

My new Zope server at www.feinsteinhs.com seems to stop working a few times a day for no apparent reason. I compiled 2.3.3 and Python 1.52 on my DebianPPC system. I do get that "Problem(100) Unhandled Event" error, I think when it first serves a page--can't find an explanation of that. This is also the first time I've had to roll my own init script. Could that be the problem? Should the init script just be starting the process with the standard "start" command in my Zope directory? I couldn't get the zopectl product to work, because I couldn't figure out the config from the docs, but it seemed like that might be helpful. Any suggestions? Thanks! --Tom Hoffman

ProxyPass
by Ben Ocean 15 Jul '01

15 Jul '01

Hi; I've successfully set up my Zope with SiteRoot to serve pages as though they were ordinary URLs and utilizing ProxyPass in the httpd.conf file (RH62) to direct traffic to the right place, like this: >>> <VirtualHost 216.145.1.127> ServerAdmin webmaster(a)allmyjokes.com ServerName www.allmyjokes.com ServerAlias allmyjokes.com *.allmyjokes.com ErrorDocument 401 /errors/401.html ErrorDocument 403 /errors/403.html ErrorDocument 404 /errors/404.html ErrorDocument 500 /errors/500.html Alias /icons/ /apache/vhosts/icons/ ProxyPass / http://thewebsons.com:8080//allmyjokes/ ProxyPassReverse / http://thewebsons.com:8080//allmyjokes/ ProxyPass /misc_ http://thewebsons.com:8080/allmyjokes/misc_ ProxyPass /p_ http://thewebsons.com:8080/p_ </VirtualHost> >>> All is well *except* when I try to send email to the server. It doesn't route it properly. I'm using sendmail. Any ideas? TIA, BenO

Zope Proxy Objects
by Christian Tismer 15 Jul '01

15 Jul '01

This message was originally directed to Dieter Maurer. Unfortunately, I forwarded it to the Zope list in German. My apologies. Hier the English version: I would like to build a Zope proxy, one of the "special kind". The problem: I have a database which has a free ODBC driver for Windows only, and the client database which I want to access is also living on Windows. Accessing it works fine with Zope's ZODBCDA. The problem is now that our real Zope application must run under Linux, and I would like to use the same database there. So my ide was to have a small Zope running under Windows which attaches to the database, and for the real Linux server, I would write some proxy methods that makes the server think it has direct access to the database. Does anybody know whether something similar already exists? I know the Zope proxy, but I'd like to do a little more, something like a ZPROXYDA, which redirects everything to a different server. Does my approach make sense, or is there a simpler way? I cannot use any paid software since this project must stay completely open-source. different modes on running Zope
by Imre Oolberg 15 Jul '01

15 Jul '01

Hi, i am new to Zope but it already works for me, good thing it seems to be, thanks! My problem is to understand how to use Zope in different modes. As i see, it could be done by itself, only ZServer; and with Apache like PCGI and FastCGI and mod_pcgi (that one i havnt tried yet). Only thing i cant figure out is how to get 2.3.3 working in a single-threaded mode. I am just curious about it, is it possible any more at all? doc/INSTALL.txt says There are two ways to run Zope: -- ... - If you *only* want to use PCGI and you don't need multi-threaded operation, you can have a special program, the pcgi_publisger, start Zope for you. See the WEBSERVER.txt file for details on ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ using Zope with an existing webserver. and doc/WEBSERVER.txt is quite vague about it :( saying: Using Zope in single-threaded mode with pcgi_publisher ------------------------------------------------------ The installation process should create a 'Zope.cgi' PCGI file. Copy the 'Zope.cgi' file to your web server's cgi-bin directory. On Unix you can also create a symbolic link to 'Zope.cgi' from your cgi-bin directory. For example:: ln -s /home/amos/Zope/Zope.cgi /usr/local/apache/cgi-bin/Zope At this point you should perform any other steps you web server requires to install and configure a CGI script. Note: For more information on PCGI check out Jeff Bauer's "PCGI pages", http://starship.skyport.net/crew/jbauer/persistcgi/. When your Zope.cgi file is correctly configured as a CGI script with your web server, you are ready to access Zope through the web. You should point your browser at: 'http://youmachine.example.com:8998/cgi-bin/Zope.cgi/manage' (Your URL maybe be different depending on how your web server is configured.) You should be prompted to enter a username and password. Enter the Zope "super manager" name and password. ---------------------------- AND WHAT I DID IS LIKE THIS ---------------------------- To get single-threaded Zope going and did the following 1. installed Zope from source like 'python w_pcgi.py' into /home/zope/zopew 2. made /home/zope apache's DocumentRoot and let it treat all files ending as .cgi CGI scripts 3. assured apache treats http://localhost/zopew/test.cgi as CGI and executes it. 4. without starting Zope with ./start and without redirecting Auht. headers from apache i issued in a brauser http://localhost/zopew/Zope.cgi/manage/, and without ending slash and without manage/ but nothing happened. It tired and eventually timed out. (with message - Temporarily Unavailable, i believe its Konquerer) I expected it to start to communicate with Zope, without ZServer. When i tried to run ./Zope.cgi from the command line, it hanged to, seems like waiting for input. Practically i can do very well without single-threaded mode but i have a old machine and there runs weird Zope, what i try to understand. it has proccesses like nobody 1605 0.0 0.3 6720 3464 ? S Jun06 0:15 python /mnt/Zope-1.10.3/pcgi/pcgi_publisher.py nobody 1608 0.0 0.3 6720 3464 ? S Jun06 11:56 python /mnt/Zope-1.10.3/pcgi/pcgi_publisher.py nobody 1609 0.0 0.3 6720 3464 ? S Jun06 3:00 python /mnt/Zope-1.10.3/pcgi/pcgi_publisher.py nobody 5798 0.2 17.1 169812 166616 ? S Jun06 140:29 python /mnt/zope2/pcgi/pcgi_publisher.py nobody 5869 0.0 0.8 12360 7780 ? S Jun06 3:00 python /mnt/zope2/pcgi/pcgi_publisher.py and i suspect it runs i this single-treaded mode, right? Sorry for a long letter, but you know, i got a problem too! Imre

improved load_site.py
by marc lindahl 15 Jul '01

15 Jul '01

I put a couple hour's work into the stock load_site.py that comes with 2.3.3, and made the following changes & improvements: -r replace files (individually - doesn't blow away directories) by re-uploading them. -R replace directories (blowing away anything inside) -a use Audio product for any audio files (since I was uploading a site with some mp3's) -A delete and re-Add any audio files (kind of a fixup for refreshing a pre-Audio site upload) I cleaned up the handling of images as well, recognizing more image types, and improved the error handling, so the thing will print errors but will not bomb out. The -v option spits out lots more info now. Also, used url_quote, since the original load_site didn't and thus couldn't deal with filenames with spaces in them (sure, it's a no-no, but the site was hosted on a Mac where such things are a non-issue). Adding image property to ZClass?
by Chris Bruce 15 Jul '01

15 Jul '01

Is there a way to add an image property to a ZClass? I created a ZClass to allow users to create a personal profile. The ZClass maintains their user information (name, address, etc.). I would like them to also be able to upload ONE image for their picture. Is there a way to do this and only allow one image? Thanks in advance. Virtual hosting - help!
by Mehmet Yousouf 15 Jul '01

15 Jul '01

Hi, I've got virtual hosting working on my test system by following the steps outlined by Alan Capesius - http://twsite.bizland.com/twzop0015.htm It works well but it took me a while to work out that it did work - I'm in Australia and have .com.au sites and I think the site access rule is set for only one dot (.com). I'm not very good with this string split stuff sooo... can someone give me some pointers to allow for all contingencies (.com and .com.au)? AccessRule: ############################# <dtml-try> <dtml-let hostname="_.string.split(_.string.lower(_.string.split(HTTP_HOST,':')[0]),'.')[-2:]" domainname="hostname[0] + '.' + hostname[1]" vhmcode="VHosts.gethostfolder(_.None, _, host=domainname)"> <dtml-if "vhmcode<>'NULL'"> <dtml-if "_.string.split(_.string.lower(PATH_INFO), '/')[-1:]==['manage'] or _.string.split(_.string.lower(PATH_INFO),'/')[-1:]==['manage_main'] or _.string.split(_.string.lower(PATH_INFO),'/')[-1:]==['manage_workspace'] "> <dtml-if "TraversalRequestNameStack[-2:]<>[vhmcode,'VHosts']"> <dtml-call "REQUEST['TraversalRequestNameStack'].extend([vhmcode,'VHosts'])"> </dtml-if> <dtml-else> <dtml-call "REQUEST['TraversalRequestNameStack'].extend(['VHM', vhmcode,'VHosts'])"> </dtml-if> </dtml-if> </dtml-let> <dtml-except> </dtml-try> ######################################### Any help is appreciated. RE: Dtml-tree and manage_delObjects funny behavior
by Rogerio Atem de Carvalho 14 Jul '01

14 Jul '01

Shame on me! It was a namespace problem, simply solved by modifying my metDestroy by adding the line <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('oneObject',id)"> and using the variable oneObject in manage_delObjects([oneObject]) But I still want to know how to refresh a tree in DTML, after adding or deleting nodes. regards, Rogerio

Dtml-tree and manage_delObjects funny behavior
by Rogerio Atem de Carvalho 14 Jul '01

14 Jul '01

Hi all, I am posting this message again, since I modified my code, without progress... I use dtml-tree to show a hierarchy of folders containing exclusively instances of, say,MyZClass. The user can use the tree structure to add and update MyZclass instances, which properties are set by acquisition. A funny thing happens when I try do delete an instance: the folder containing the instance "looses" the id showed on the tree (its path become something like 127.0.0.1/Cities//) and the actual object that I would like to delete is not destroyed at all! The codes are: The tree: <dtml-var standard_html_header> <dtml-tree Cities branches=objectValues sort=id> <img src="<dtml-var SCRIPT_NAME>/<dtml-var icon>"> <dtml-if "meta_type=='Folder'"> <dtml-var id> <a href="<dtml-var tree-item-url>/frmAdd"><+></a> -->adds instances of MyZclass in the folder <dtml-else> <a href="<dtml-var tree-item-url>"><dtml-var title></a> <a href="<dtml-var tree-item-url>/frmDelete"><-></a> -->deletes the current MyZclass instance </dtml-if> </dtml-tree> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> The "destroy" method (metDestroy): <dtml-with "_.getitem(city)"> <dtml-call "_.getitem(category).manage_delObjects(['id'])"> </dtml-with> <dtml-var id> ------->shows the desired id (the Zclass instance id) OBS.: I tried also: <dtml-with "_.getitem(city)"> <dtml-with "_.getitem(category)"> <dtml-call "manage_delObjects(['id'])"> </dtml-with> </dtml-with> this method is called by another method which asks for confirmation(frmDelete): <dtml-var standard_html_header> <FORM action="metDestroy"> Are you sure?<br> "<dtml-var summary>"<br> -->only shows the object summary property <input type=submit value=" Remove? "> </form> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> When that strange behavior started, I wrote some code to show the actual "id" being used in <dtml-call "manage_delObjects(['id'])">, and it was the MyZclass instance id, so there is no problem with ids (I think!). I used this method as both a MyZclass method and as a method in my main folder (Cities). The behavior was the same... I had to delete the folder where I tried to delete the instance so that the tree could "remember" the real folder structure (that was not affected!) The folder structure is Cities City1 Category1 MyZclass1 MyZclass2 MyZclass3 ... Category2 MyZclass4 MyZclass5 MyZclass6 ... Category3 ... City2 ... City3 ... ... One more thing: how can I refresh the tree after deleting or adding an object? I mean, how can I redirect from the Add/Delete forms to the tree form and refresh the tree? Thanks in advance, Rogerio
