Looping through results (generated by traversing to result object)
by Kieran Walshe 05 Jul '01

05 Jul '01

Hi, I don't know if anybody can help me but my problem is as follows: I have managed to set-up a Z SQL query which display results (using http://localhost:8080/sql_method/id/12/viewresult) but I have to explicitly embed the fields returned from the Z SQL query. I would like instead to loop over all the fields returned from the Z SQL and dynamically generate my report for the record. I think it should be something like <dtml-in data_passed_in>..etc Any help is much appreciated. Kieran

Catching specific exceptions in Python Script?
by Etienne Labuschagne 05 Jul '01

05 Jul '01

Hi all I would like to be able to catch specific exceptions with Python Scripts: eg. try: ..... except Exception, e: ..... of try: .... except sql.error, e: .... This doesn't work as none of these exceptions are imported, also I cannot import them due to the import constraints of Python Scripts. Is there a workaround for this other than using external methods? Etienne

Not quite right I think

Somebody called Kemalus (can't find his email address) wrote this http://www.zope.org/Members/Kemalus/smart_using_namespace He says that <dtml-var foo> is better than <dtml-var "REQUEST.form['foo']"> "This allows your code to be more readable, hence more maintainable." I disagree! Looking back at old DTML I find myself wonder sometimes, "which namestack is this expected to come from?" In <dtml-var foo> 'foo' could be a method, a template, a property or any of the many REQUEST dictionaries. So debugging <dtml-var foo>, you have to search in all of this possibilities, whereas with <dtml-var "REQUEST.form['foo']"> can only come from one place. No offense Kemalus. I just constructivly critize. Readability isn't about the number of characters of text or the number of quotation marks. What do the others think? Peter

zope + python 2.0
by cota 05 Jul '01

05 Jul '01

Hi everybody. I need help to use Zope. I have installed Zope 2.3.3 binary version under a linux SUSE 7.1 system. I have installed python-ldap 1.10 alpha 3 requiring Python 2.0. At zope start up I get a lot of warning like this: WARNING: Python C API version mismatch for module cStringIO: This Python has API version 1009, module cStringIO has version 1007 Have you got some suggestion about it? Do you know why? RE: [Zope] search dtml-tree
by Dunigan, Craig 05 Jul '01

Hi Andreas, Unfortunately, it doesn't look like dtml-tree can be readily influenced the way you want. There's supposed to be a way to manipulate a variable set in a cookie, but my searches haven't found it yet. Anyway, it appears to accept only the parameters to expand_all or collapse_all, and that's it. If you can find a way to make this work, there would be a *lot* of people on this list who would be interested. From Zope to FTP, without WGET
by Ausum 05 Jul '01

05 Jul '01

I'd like to enable a "save to ftp site" button along with the "save changes" one, in my site's dtml-documents, using authorization info previously gathered. Is it possible to use Zope as an FTP client, allowing it to upload immediately the just rendered page to the remote FTP site, at its mirror place? If the case was it isn't already written the code, would you please point me in the right direction? I will be happy if a Zproduct comes out of this purpose. Thanks in advance, Ausum

I'm also new to Zope, but I agree that having "transitional" manuals would be helpful. I'd like to see one that shifts traditional web developers into Zope by tackling the differences head on. I don't think that the Zope book http://serenade.4-am.com/ZopeBook actually does this. It certainly is helpful and provides a gradual introduction to Zope, but really what I want to see is how things should best be done the Zope way. I think I would have been better off starting with chapter 12 of this same book ("Extending Zope"). This chapter introduces ZClasses and shows how to create a product that would allow for a web presentation, user entry through the management interface, etc. For the longest time I couldn't "get" how I would do something as simple as create a recipe card file with Zope. Zope is a total mind-shift from traditional web development/database tools so hit it head on and show a complete development of a generic web site doing things entirely the Zope way. I found it hard to make the mental transition when looking at nothing but DTML since it looks like many of the other systems I've been familiar with (just another tagged based meta-language) but it's not. It's tied into Zope's incredible object database and management interface. Just my two cents... BTW: Don't get me wrong, this book was an absolute godsend! Yes... unless you really want to do something very specific to a particular system... like.. use regexes in Perl. You'd need to search almost forever to figure out how to expose regex functionality in Zope without using an external method. There are lots of other examples like this. All we can do is rely on the community and the maillist here. > something different : > > I had to search the php.net site for a particular function, and I found what > is so cool about this site : users can search any php function very easily, > and most important : *visitors can add comments and examples* to the > function explanation. > > This could be added to the zope docs imho. One folder per function, and let > the users add their own comments (guestbook like). How about http://serenade.4-am.com/ZopeBook? This Zope Book instance is going away, so don't get too carried away adding comments... but if you like it, *please* let the Zope docs folks know that you'd like to get the Zope Book annotation/bugtracking system out of the SourceForge tracker and into this system by emailing docs(a)digicool.com . > something more different : > > why not add a guestbook-like system to every page of zope.org? This is the purpose of the CMF Discussion system (an example of which the above is *not*). - C _______________________________________________ Zope maillist - Zope(a)zope.org http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope ** No cross posts or HTML encoding! ** (Related lists - http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-announce http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev )
