A new sequel to the minimal product how-to
by Max Møller Rasmussen 05 Jul '01

05 Jul '01

After a round of correcting errors on the first minimal product How-To, that tells how to make a VERY simple Python Product for Zope:: http://www.zope.org/Members/maxm/HowTo/minimal_01 I have created a sequel How-To that goes further in depth with the topic, and actually makes it a rather complete product. Ending up with making a very minimal news article product. http://www.zope.org/Members/maxm/HowTo/minimal_02/ Please report if you find any errors, misunderstandings on my part or hard to understand information. viewing newsgroups
by Joe Gaffey 05 Jul '01

05 Jul '01

Hi, Apologies to anyone who may be receiving this a second time ;( I am trying to use a web front end to view already existing newsgroups on an nntp server. I was wondering if there are any zope products out there that will do this for me. I do not need it to act as a mail server or anything like this. I had a quick look at zopeGUM but this seems to be saying that it *will* provide something that may do this for me. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated. PS - is this the correct/best place to ask this question? Thanks, Joe.

www.Zope.org frontpage
by Peter Bengtsson 05 Jul '01

Hello you who can change the appearance of Zope.org Wouldn't it be great if at the frontpage, there was instead the latest How-Tos or Tips or Products. One of the best developers sites on the net is PHPBuilder.com http://www.phpbuilder.com/, and the front page they have the latest articles in big with little mugshots of the article authors (which feels very personal and friendly). I don't mind going over to Zopelabs.com for the latest recepies and ZopeZen.org for the latest Zope related diskussions. ZopeGeeks.com is coming up strong and will aim to be like PHPBuilder.com or the old ASPToday.com, but they are not going to have the How-Tos and Tips for a long time. Perhaps ZopeGeeks could "steel" that content from Zope.org and ask zope.org members to upload a mugshot.gif in their Members folders. Just something I want and I kindly ask for. Peter

Python scripts - DB connection question...
by Lee 05 Jul '01

05 Jul '01

Hi there, I haven't used Zope for a few months - I'm now using Python scripts instead of the Python method product. They don't appear to be too dissimilar, but I'm having a little trouble trying to execute an SQL query from a script. In a Python method it would be something like: db_conn = self.Gadfly_database_connection() // generate SQL result=db_conn.query(updatePersonSQL) This doesn't work in a script though. Could someone how to estabish a connection and execute a query? Thanks in advance. - Best regards, Lee

Have a look at python's standard ftplib module. That module's doc string: 0 300 moveto (What are your goals for the future - things you think you should be) show 0 288 moveto (doing and things you would like to be doing. e.g. "I want to be an) show 0 276 moveto (astronaut") show 0 252 moveto (Objectives - more specific measurable things. e.g. "Master EVA skills - ) show 0 240 moveto (measure: successfully deploy 3 satelites from shuttle") show 0 216 moveto (Training/improvement - what areas do you want to improve or what t'230 Guest login ok, access restrictions apply.' >>> ftp.retrlines('LIST') # list directory contents total 9 drwxr-xr-x 8 root wheel 1024 Jan 3 1994 . drwxr-xr-x 8 root wheel 1024 Jan 3 1994 .. drwxr-xr-x 2 root wheel 1024 Jan 3 1994 bin drwxr-xr-x 2 root wheel 1024 Jan 3 1994 etc d-wxrwxr-x 2 ftp wheel 1024 Sep 5 13:43 incoming drwxr-xr-x 2 root wheel 1024 Nov 17 1993 lib drwxr-xr-x 6 1094 wheel 1024 Sep 13 19:07 pub drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 1024 Jan 3 1994 usr -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 312 Aug 1 1994 welcome.msg '226 Transfer complete.' >>> ftp.quit() '221 Goodbye.' >>> A nice test that reveals some of the network dialogue would be: python ftplib.py -d localhost -l -p -l """ >>> "Ausum" wrote > I'd like to enable a "save to ftp site" button along with the "save > changes" one, in my site's dtml-documents, using authorization info > previously gathered. > > Is it possible to use Zope as an FTP client, allowing it to upload > immediately the just rendered page to the remote FTP site, at its mirror > place? Re: [Zope] begin/commit

Hi Gustavo, for advanced "playing" just create a ZSQLMethod instance and play with it. It has more options then the simple test purpose on the connection object, which is obviously only there to simple test success with the connection and may be to create some tables on the fly. Certainly not to retrieve more then 1000 rows out of the database. (which sounds like not a good idea anyway in the web environment, thus the default value is set to 1000 - see advanced tab on ZSQL Methods) Regards Tino --On Dienstag, 3. If there was a published API. The documentation is all over the place. Now I have a different problem. My ZClass python script method now looks like this if username not in context.Members: context.Members.append(username) new_members = context.Members context.propertysheets.Membership.manage_changeProperties(Members = new_members) return 1 return 0 The problem is that this changes the properties of all the objects not just the one I'm interested in. It's as if "context" is the class not the instance.
