Assigning a Role Based on IP Address (domain)
by David Legg 04 Jul '01

04 Jul '01

Hi all, I want to assign a user a role based on their IP address or domain. Looking through the Zope book this seemed fairly straightforward but I can't get it to work. The folder I am doing this in is one up from the root level, so I can then lock things down from this folder up. This is what I did: 1. Created a new role called internalUser 2. Created a new user called anon, but didn't fill in the password fields, specified the domain as *.mydomain.com and selected the role as internalUser. 3. Created a DTML document (no security assigned) and did a <dtml-var "AUTHENTICATED_USER.getRoles()"> to see what role was being assigned. When I log into the document anonymously it still displays the role as anonymous - yes I am in the right domain. When I set the security settings to lock out anonymous but enable internalUser to view the page it still prompts for a username and password - even though I didn't specify a password. Looking at the user anon in acl_users the password field is filled even though I didn't specified password - is this normal? Strangely when I give this user a password and log in the ip/domain restriction works - there must be something going amiss somewhere.. The reason why I would like to do it this way is so that I can conditionally show/hide parts of a page based on this role just to give you some context - provided it assigns the right role based on domain/ip! If someone could provide some step by step instructions as to how they did this (I cannot for the life of me see what I'm missing) and a possible workaround perhaps using REMOTE_ADDR - I would dearly like to avoid this! Thank you in advance David

Zope on LinuxTag in Stuttgart!!!!! Booth: 5.0.334.1
by Joachim Werner 04 Jul '01

04 Jul '01

Hi everybody! This is a final reminder, mainly for the European audience ... I am writing you this from our EuroZope booth on LinuxTag in Stuttgart. The booth is really cool (3m*4m, with three presentation points and a little table to discuss more in-depth problems). If anybody wants to drop in: The booth number is 5.0.334.1. We also have three Zope presentations in the workshop area. They are easy to remember: >From Friday on, they are always at 13:00 (1:00 pm) -- Zope High Noon! These presentations are held by me, Stephan Richter, and Veikko Wünsche, and they are for a Zope-insterested audience rather than Zope experts. Stephan also has a presentation on Sunday in the official congress program. See you at LinuxTag or maybe in Berlin at the EuroZope conference next week! Joachim

Another quick question

Hello All, Tell me if I'm missing something. I can write <dtml-let temp="1 + 1"> and then use <dtml-var temp> to get the value 2. Then why can't I use a variable and increment it using <dtml-let> ? <dtml-let temp="REQEUST.myVar + 1"> I get an error : Error Type: TypeError Error Value: illegal argument type for built-in operation The variable has the value of 1, so it should just add 1 an' 1 to give me 2. Correct, yes/no? Thanks in advance, Tommy

How to redirect any URL to a base URL using siteAccess was:(REQUEST.path)
by Paul Zwarts 04 Jul '01

04 Jul '01

Hi Peter, Thanks for the help, although I think that REQUEST.path is a list and not a dictionary, as seen from querying it directly. Anyhow, what I searched for was REQUEST.path.pop() which allowed me to drop bits off the end. For anyone interested, here is the code I eventually figured out: <dtml-unless "REQUEST.path[0][:6]=='manage' or REQUEST.path[-1][:6]=='manage'"> <dtml-call Session> <dtml-var logic> <dtml-in "REQUEST.path" reverse> <dtml-unless "_['sequence-item']=='indir'"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.path.pop()"> </dtml-unless> </dtml-in> <dtml-call "REQUEST.path.append('get')"> </dtml-unless> This allows a user to access any path where the SiteRule sits in a root directory, called 'indir' This process rule will intercept absolutley ANYTHING passed in its path and rediret it to one page called get. Could be usefull for those who are transporting a legacy site structure into Zope and want to get rid of hundreds of files that NEED to be there, but actually arent in Zope. I use is for product updates that use a directory based GET to our website and the find a file that has html that say 'Update available'. Now I simply use the 'get' document to pick apart that path that was used and then query a database for update results.... question on ZCatalog
by Cherry Jeanette Ebue 04 Jul '01

04 Jul '01

I have articles with the following attributes: author, search_meta, title and publication date All attributes are included in the meta data list. When I search my Catalog (of articles), only attributes of type string are returned in the search result. Publication date (of type date) and search_meta (of type text) do not get covered in the search. Why is it so? Cherry
