Authentication problems with exUserFolder
by Scott Anderson 04 Jul '01

04 Jul '01

Hi all, I'm using exUserFolder to authenticate to a Postgres database. With certain clients, however, authentication information is sent only for protected pages. I have a fair amount of information that is available for anonymous users, and I use _['AUTHENTICATED_USER'] to determine whether to place things like "Edit Preferences" and the like on those pages. With Lynx, Mozilla 9.1+, and IE 5.5 (I think) the Basic Auth stuff is only sent for the protected pages. Any ideas on why this is so, and how to fix it? Thanks, -scott

ZCatalog and Folder Properties
by Rogerio Atem de Carvalho 03 Jul '01

03 Jul '01

Hi, for a number of reasons, I need the following: 1)Create instances of a ZClass, say MyClass, on a specific folder that is passaded as a parameter. 2)I have a Catalog that indexes DTMLDocuments placed on a (something) big hierarchy of folders. Besides that, some "higher" folders (not all) has two strings properties that I need to use to search those DTMLDocuments. I need something like "Search all DTMLDocuments that have <string parameters> on its content and are in <folder-property1> and <folder-property2>". The use of those folder properties is optional, I mean, you can use none, one or both properties to search. If you use none, you are going to search on the whole hierarchy of folders, otherwise, the search aplies to only part of it. You can see that what I need is to give the DTMLDocs two properties that they obtain from the folders they are placed in. What can I do? Use aquisition? Define a DTMLMethod in each "higher" folder that can return its DTMLDocs? How can I combine this kind of solution with ZCatalog searches? Regards, Rogerio Atem

What is the particular object? I'll try to be more clear. I have a number of folders: "PrelimDocs", "HowToDocs", "HARPDocs", etc. In each of these folders I have a number of objects: dtml documents, files (pdf, MSWord, .zip and .sit), and some folders. The dtml method I posted is used in the index_html files of the the document folders, to generate a index listing of the documents/objects in the folders. My problem is that within some folders, there are documents (objects) that I don't want to show up in the index_html dynamic listing. For that,I had this idea I'd use this index_hide property. If I didn't want a document to be listed, I'd just set an index_hide property for it. Better explanation? > I can't give you a solution because of that, but I can give you a tip, > you > don't need to say "['id']", you can just say "id". Well, err, actually, for reasons I'm not entirely sure I could explain, those methods don't work in this case. I worked with a number of the fine gentlemen on #zope about the problem, and we discovered together that nothing short of the full _['id'] would work. Count of all objects within a container
by Tommy Johnson 03 Jul '01

03 Jul '01

Hey all, I'm trying to get a count of all image objects within an images folder. The basic idea is to be able to use this count within an HTML table so I can format some rowspans. This bit of code will allow me to simply drop an image in, and the code will take care of generating my navigation bar. Here's the problem. I want a count of images in the Images_naviagtion folder. By a manual count, I see 11. The code that I wrote is: <dtml-with Images_navigation> <dtml-in objectValues> <dtml-var sequence-length> </dtml-in> </dtml-with> Now this gives me the correct answer of '11', but it gives it to me 11 times as well (most likely because if the dtml-in statement). How do I get it to just give me the correct answer ONCE? Thanks in advance, Tommy

Python also has nntplib http://python.org/doc/current/lib/module-nntplib.html That might be helpful to you. There is a very good nntp library delivered with python. You can use it in an external method or - if you want better performance - write a product. I think there is a IMAP product out there for Zope you can steal code from since its very similar to your problem. May be the author of it can give you support. Boolean dtml redux
by Leigh Ann Hildebrand 03 Jul '01

03 Jul '01

I'm sorry to post about this *again*, but I have still gotten no answer that works. I've spent a week now, changing the same 3 lines to various permutations, and none of the suggestions has worked. So, here again: <dtml-in expr="_[foldername].objectValues()" sort="bobobase_modification_time" reverse> <dtml-unless "_['id']=='index_html'"> <li> <a href="<dtml-var absolute_url>"><dtml-var title></a><br> Maintained by <dtml-var maintainer missing="No maintainer">. <br><dtml-var description missing="No description."> Last revision date <dtml-var version_date missing="unknown">. </dtml-unless> </dtml-in> The problem: I need to change the line <dtml-unless "_['id']=='index_html'"> so that it's "unless the object boolean index_hide property is true for the particular object". I've had several suggestions; whenever I use them, they either have no effect at all, or they work such that the file listing is completely blank if *any* file in the folder has the index_hide property set. Suggestions? Please assume *no* programming. It doesn't help to make vague suggestions, as I have plenty of those and they don't seem to be helping. I'm looking for *exact* syntax of a line that would replace that one problem line. Thanks! sorting a SQL result set
by Sion Morris 03 Jul '01

03 Jul '01

Hi, I'm sure somebody has done this before and knows the answer :-) A user can search a MySQL database using an extensive form of over 30 fields. The result is displayed in a 5 col list with column headings. I want to be able to allow sorting (asc and desc) on these columns. To sort on any column the query has to be executed again with the relevant order clause. As there can be over 30 fields in the original query what would be the best way to save and then restore the query? Does it make sense to try and load the result into a list object before displaying and from then on work with the list object when sorting? I hope the above makes sense. Any help greatly appreciated. Hwyl, Sion
