Updated Minimal Product "How-To"
by Max Møller Rasmussen 03 Jul '01

I have written a "Minimal Python Product" How-To, and according to feedback I have gotten off-list it has been very popular for developers trying to understand Python products for the first time. But a few people has commented on some "minor" errors in it. It has now been updated and corrected. http://www.zope.org/Members/maxm/HowTo/minimal_01/ regards Max M

[ANN] DTML Editor 0.1.0
by Gilles Lenfant 03 Jul '01

03 Jul '01

Hi, For those like me who are tired to edit DTML methods/documents through an HTML TEXTAREA, I'm proud to announce the first public alpha version of DTML Editor, first attempt of DTML syntax coloring editor. Requirements (client side): - Windows or Unix/GTK - Python 2.x (worked with Python 2.1 but did not use any specific feature) - xmlrpclib (get it from http://www.pythonware.com but you can use a copy of the one that's in $ZOPEROOT/lib/python) - wxPython from http://www.wxpython.org (I work with wxPython 2.3 but DTML Editor will perhaps run with older versions) Requirements (server side): - Hmmm... I'm not sure... I tested with Zope 2.3.2 and Zope 2.3.3 but this may work with older versions. - Follow instructions in "00README.txt": there's a small python script to put in the Zope server root to reply to the client. Warning for Unix/GTK users: I developed and tested the DTML Editor with Windows but paid attention not using any Windows specific feature of python or wxPython. Just install this release in a directory where the user has "write" granted. DTML Editor will save user preferences in ~/.dtmled/* on Unix platforms in a future release. DON'T CONNECT PRODUCTION SERVERS WITH THIS ALPHA RELEASE (You can anyway undo eventual mess through the ZMI) Download: http://glenfant.free.fr/zopeutils/dtmledit.tgz Enjoy !

getting Apache's UNIQUE_ID into Zope?
by Kevin L 03 Jul '01

03 Jul '01

I'm currently converting an application from php to Zope. My app uses Apache's UNIQUE_ID env variable. Zope is running behind Apache with mod_rewrite and mod_proxy. Is it possible to pass the UNIQUE_ID variable in the rewrite rule so I can do <dtml-var UNIQUE_ID> in zope? thanks -Kevin __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Strange Psycopg and Zope behaviours
by Paul Zwarts 03 Jul '01

03 Jul '01

Hi all, I've found some strange things with the ZpsycopgDA (v0.99.4) and Zope233. Through several areas of my zopesite that were migrated to psycoPG I've notived the following: a) It seems that a psycopg ZSQL method that dont DIRECTLY pass variables through the <dtml-call> does not throw an error nor does it affect the database. It simply does nothing which is not good. b) <dtml-in>item:records</dtml-in> constructions dont work either. It seems to not be able to understand that it will decode a list through iteration. (no exception raised either) c) As the adapter for SQLSession, Something causes SQLSession to generate a new session ID each request, which makes me guess that no insert is done on the SQLSessionCreate method. Note that all of the above has worked for a year and a half with PoPy, though not reliably. Can anyone offer some suggestions as to why this may be or methods to look at as far as debugging the code? I have pasted one of the examples where coding does not work: store(DTML Method): ... ... <dtml-in "getPostData(transactID=transactID)"> <dtml-call "RESPONSE.redirect('https://foo.com/paymenow.p?transnr=%s&amount=%s&company= %s&firstname=%s&lastname=%s&address=%s&zip=%s&city=%s&state=%s&country=%s&em ail=%s&version=engels&currency=USD&vat=%s&method=ss' % (transactID, url_quote(totalamount), url_quote(company),url_quote(firstname), url_quote(lastname), url_quote(address), url_quote(zipcode), url_quote(city), url_quote(usstate), url_quote(country), url_quote(email), url_quote(vat)))"> </dtml-in> ... ... The <dtml-in "getPostData(transactID=transactID)"> (among others) returns no data. The page returns blank instead of redirecting, and if you put text in various places, the code seems to execute with no results. Run the ZSQL method stand-alone and it works properly. What gives? Is it my coding? Thanks in advance, Paul Zwarts

DTML namespaces
by Peter Bengtsson 03 Jul '01

03 Jul '01

I'm going to convert my DTML templates to Page Templates, but in doing so I have to debug my old messy DTML. If my DTML is: <dtml-var "REQUEST.form['name']">, I then know where it comes from. That's a lot better than <dtml-var name>. Would it be possible to use some kind of debugger or something to see where things come from at run time? I can imagine that the renderer of DTML looks something like this: <pseudo code> # Someones written <dtml-var name>, let's find it if REQUEST.has_key('name'): return REQUEST.name elif DTMLtemplate.has_key('name') return DTMLtemplate.name elif Container.has_key('name'): return Container.name elif Aquisitionpath.has_key('name'): return Aquistionpath.name else: raise NameError, "Can't find 'name'" </pseudo code> If this exists, I could add a bunch of print lines in there to debug where things come from and then I could see exactly how to rewrite my DTML to TAL. Anybody familiar with this? Cheers, Peter
