Slow calendar rendering in Netscape
by rob.sheppard＠btinternet.com 06 Jun '01

06 Jun '01

Hi, I'm playing with the calendar tag, based on code from the Zopista at zopezen (on zope 2.3.2), and have found its really slow to render in Netscape (v 4.7), whereas IE5 zips through it. I've tried putting the dtml- method in a RAM cache (no change) - is it the brower struggling to render a complex table? Any tips from speed freak zope heads? Or should I not use a calendar with NS, and can I use HTTP_USER_AGENT to filter it out? Cheers, Rob

Testing for NULL in ZSQL results
by Wade Leftwich 06 Jun '01

06 Jun '01

Hello, I've got a Python script that calls an SQL method. Some of the returned rows may contain NULL values. How do I test for those? Right now I'm using same_type() to check a value against the datatype of the column. Wondering if there's a better way. Thanks Wade Leftwich Ithaca, NY

Scaner and Zope application
by Alexander Chelnokov 06 Jun '01

Hello Todd, Wednesday, June 06, 2001, 2:15:34 AM, you wrote: ST> I noticed this software from a post over at Hardhats in reference to ST> printing, http://www.scansoft.com/ Is there a problem, with just scanning BTW - there is another issue about scaners amd Zope. We now are testing a patient image database (Zope application with images in file system and metadata in Postgresql) in a local network. It became obvious how great it would be to scan (or get images from other TWAIN sessions) directly into a Zope application. Google search returned that such an option is available in ColdFusion - http://www.cfdev.com/activescan/technical.cfm ============================ Activescan Technical Overview What is it? Activescan is a Cold Fusion Custom Tag that gives developers the ability to allow clients to scan images from any TWAIN compliant scanner directly to a web server. Clients can scan images, resize and crop them, and upload them to the server with one easy to use interface. How Does it Work? Activescan uses a combination of TWAIN, ActiveX, and Javascript technologies in a Cold Fusion Custom Tag to create the scanner interface. The images are converted into JPEG format, then sent to the server using an HTTP form post. ============================ Which Zope release is scheduled to include <dtml-getimage>? ;-) Best regards, Alexander N. Problem with ZOracleDA
by Ellis, Neil (FNB) 06 Jun '01

06 Jun '01

While using ZORACLEDA (the prebuilt NT4 binary) I'm getting the following error for an insert statement, when I copy the insert statement to PL/SQL it works fine ?? Any ideas Error: (24374, 'ORA-24374: define not done before fetch or execute and fetch') The ZSQL looks something like this: insert into dropdown_meta_table (mt_id, table_name, labelColumn, valueColumn) values(<dtml-sqlvar mt_id type=string>, <dtml-sqlvar table_name type=string>, <dtml-sqlvar labelColumn type=string>, <dtml-sqlvar valueColumn type=string>)

How does Namespace Acquisition in DTML methods called from PythonScripts work?
by J Kinsley 06 Jun '01

06 Jun '01

I have a folder 'foo' in my top level Zope folder which contains folders called 'sql' and 'forms'. The 'sql' folder contains sql methods, and the 'forms' folder contains fragments of a multi-step form. In addition to the two folders, 'foo' contains 'forms_header' and 'forms_footer' DTML methods which are common to all form fragments. Finally there is a PythonScript called 'process'. In 'process' I want to manipulate the data collected from the forms, call the appropriate ZSQLmethods (which work) and then call the next form fragment. The problem I am encountering is when I do something like: return context.forms.fragment1() I get a KeyError for every document/method called from within fragment1. What do I need to pass to fragment1 in order to get acquisition to behave as it would if I called '/foo/forms/fragment1'? Hopefully I have explained this properly since I have been up all night working on this. TIA... Regards, Jarrod Kinsley

passing parameters to DTML Methods/Documents
by Chris Ryland 06 Jun '01

06 Jun '01

There's no official way to pass parameters from DTML code to other DTML Methods or Documents, is there? I guess one can always do a <dtml-var expr="REQUEST.set('param', 'value')">, and use <dtml-var param> in the callee, but that seems kludgey. -- Cheers! Re: Zope Bug? Exception Handling does not work properly...
by Philipp Robbel 06 Jun '01

06 Jun '01

Hi Chris, > ...that sort of thing should be in a Python Script, shame on you! ;-) Do you have any clue why it doesn't work in DTML? I mean, it's described in the Tutorial - or did I do a formal error? Thanks again, Philipp

RE: [Zope] problem with dtml-var displaying None for NULL from po stgres
by Harris Peter 06 Jun '01

06 Jun '01

Hi Best way is <dtml-var field null="">, then you get an empty string instead of "None". <dtml-if field><dtml-var field></dtml-if field> may in fact not work for integer fields. It will omit zeros as well as nulls, if I understand dtml-if correctly. Getting rid of Vocabulary object
by Felipe E. Barousse Boue 06 Jun '01

06 Jun '01

Hello all: I just created a ZClass, nothing fancy: one property sheet and a couple of properties. This ZClass inherits ObjectManager and ZCatalog. Now, when a class instance is added programmatically inside a newly created folder (also programmatically), it creates a "vocabulary" object. How do I prevent my ZClass instance to create this "vocabulary". I have not been able to find that. I don't need the vocabulary since I will be iterating over the objects within the folder and I don't want the vocabulary to be counted in. This was solved temporarily with an dtml if id=vocabulary ..... skip the object ... method. The setup is Zope 2.3.2 with hotfix, RedHat 6.2, Python 1.5.2 Any comments are welcome. Thanks in advance. ??? IDIOT QUESTION QUOTA EXCEEDED ???
by Eric Roby 06 Jun '01

06 Jun '01

To any of you Zopemeisters willing to suffer through my idiot question..... I am beginning to think I have exceeded my "Idiot Question" quota for the year.... Ok, here it is in a nutshell.... I can create instances (TTW) of DTML Method, DTML Document, and even HTML Document (installed product version 0.2) then use either an FTP client or a WEBDav client to make changes and update. NOW, if I try to use any of the previous as a base class for a new ZClass, the instances created (TTW) from this new class CANNOT be managed via an FTP client or a WEBDav client. I have made many false starts over the past week trying to isolate this problem. I have ruled out roles and permissions, although I still might be hosed here. Out of desperation, I am contemplating modifying the HTML Document product to fit my needs. But I shouldn't have to do that because that is what ZClasses is all about. Or I thought so, anyway. Any directions/insights are appreciated. Thanks in advance... Eric
