RE: [Zope] asp request and response objects

Thanks Tom and Tino. I do believe that Zope and Python is a fantastic combination for building web based applications and systems. I agree that a new way of thinking is required to go to a complete OO web development mentality. I found myself taking 2 hours to figure out to RE-CONSTRUCT a folder to store IMAGES and then give pages outside that FOLDER access to them for display... Typical images folder you see with sites... This alone - when you have zo-db behind you doesnt make sense to structure your applications the same old way. Everything is an object - everything stands on its own. Then its just a matter of structuring your directories for complete productivity purposes at higher/broader level or keeping things really flat. ASP - leaves you limited to how you can approach a problem. Its easier to learn because of this. But, in the end makes for very UN-ELO-QUENT solutions. Zope is more impressive in terms of not just focusing on mundane things, but really going behind 2 or 3 core objects and making the web application world really open up! I like that phrase - 'developement "the zope way"' - would look good on a tee-shirt? Has anyone put any effort into a resource that documents the bullet points of what that means - developement "the zope way"? I would be willing to do so - to really point out to other developers (ASP etc.) Why Zope rocks and __blank__ doesnt! We could fairly deep into it - not just high level reasons why its better... Just a thought. The thing I find the clunkiest (though it works flawlessly and makes good intuitive sense) is the management interface. Would be better as a rich gui. This work is going on isnt it already? URL quoting from a Python script
by Tim Moore 25 Apr '01

25 Apr '01

I know that dtml-var has the url_quote_plus attribute, but is there a way to do the same thing from a python script? Or, for that matter, any of the other text-munging functions that dtml-var supports? thanks! -- Tim Moore

Hello Phil, thanks a lot for your attached Product. The interbase storage works well with gvIB and win2k. Do you have any idea, how to implement replication on it? Do you have a referenec to a localFS object included on your entry page? Is the LocalFS source folder still intact on the server? LocalFS will keep the system from responding if the source folder does not exist (serious bug). >>>-----Original Message----- >>>From: Dieter Maurer [mailto:dieter@handshake.de] >>>Sent: Tuesday, April 24, 2001 3:36 PM >>>To: Jason Cunliffe >>>Cc: zope(a)zope.org >>>Subject: Re: [Zope] Bad File Descriptor error - zope crashes >>>at startup >>> >>> >>>Jason Cunliffe writes: >>> > Developing Zope on local laptop [Win98se 192Mb, Zope >>>2.3.1] before upload to >>> > Linux server. dtml-in: number of items in current batch
by Ron Bickers 24 Apr '01

24 Apr '01

I can't seem to figure out what sequence- variable to use to get the number of items in the current batch. sequence-step-size gives me the size of the batch as I requested (ex, for <dtml-in ... size="3"> returns 3), but if there are actually only 2 more items to go, what can I use to get the number 2? Feelin' like a newbie...Thanks! _______________________ Ron Bickers Logic Etc, Inc. rbickers(a)logicetc.com

Apparently, the user Zope switches to, does not have write access to the files you see in your problem report. Specify a user for Zope that can access these files or change the file permissions such that "nobody" can access them. Dieter

However, the DCOracle module packaged with ZOracleDA was quite old (when we downloaded ZOracleDA). Fetching an up-to-date DCOracle and putting it into ZOracleDA had drastically improved the interaction between Zope and Oracle. Maybe, ZOracleDA is still bundled with an outdated DCOracle? Dieter
